Preacher Gregorio Chávez's body was discovered four days after he disappeared from his small village in northern Honduras. He was killed by blows to the head, and his body showed signs he may have been tortured, according to a special prosecutor.

His death is one of more than 100 linked to violent land conflicts in the region, and the corporation that owns the palm oil plantation where his body was found is one of the central protagonists in the gruesome fight. It has also been the beneficiary of millions of dollars in funding from the World Bank Group's private-sector arm, the International Finance Corporation.
