US ships bound for Persian Gulf
The large landing ship The Ponce, re-equipped to carry US Navy special mission units, has arrived in the Persian Gulf, a spokesman of the Fifth Fleet of the US Navy reported on Saturday.
Recently, four minesweepers have been sent to the Persian Gulf in addition to four others already deployed there, which testifies that the US is building up its military presence in the region.

Syria begins naval exercises
The Syrian armed forces have begun naval exercises. The country’s TV has shown sequences from the site.
The main task of the manoeuvres is to practise repelling attacks from the sea.
The exercises will last for a few days.
They are taking place in the context of a growing tension in the region. In particular, after the incident with the downed Turkish jet fighter, Ankara has built up its military contingent near the Syrian border.
Groups of militants also regularly try to cross the Syrian border from the territory of Lebanon.

7 NATO troops dead in A'stan
Six NATO troops were killed in a bomb attack in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, the military alliance said, on a day where a total of 29 people died from roadside bombs and insurgent attacks.
The identities and nationalities of the NATO victims were withheld and details of the attack were not immediately available.
Another NATO trooper was killed earlier in the day, along with 18 local civilians in three simultaneous explosions in the southern Kandahar province.
