Today, the European Parliament rejected the Anti-Counterfeiting
Trade Agreement by an overwhelming majority of 478 votes to 39 with 165
abstentions. ARTICLE 19 welcomes the European Parliament’s NO vote which

Kenya: Internally Displaced Persons Bill, 2012
In July 2012, ARTICLE 19 analysed the Draft Internally Displaced Persons
Bill, 2012 (“the Draft Bill”) of Kenya, which is currently under
consideration by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Labour and Social
Welfare. This analysis focuses on the extent to which the Draft Bill
complies with international standards on the right of access to
information. ARTICLE 19 welcomes the initiative to institutionalise
protections for internally displaced persons in Kenya, including
measures to increase information flows to and from IDPs. While these
provisions are robust, there is scope to improve the Draft Bill further
to better protect the right of access to information in the process of
addressing internal displacement.

Press freedom: An own goal for Ukraine
An international joint mission by several media and human rights group
including ARTICLE 19 visited Ukraine in April 2012 and today launched
their report entitled "Make freedom of expression a reality, Mr
President" - A Report on Press Freedom in Ukraine. The report outlines
concerns ‘regarding media freedom in the country and calls on President
Yanukovich to ensure the right to freedom of expression.

Kenya: Internally Displaced Persons Bill Must Advance the Right to Access Information
ARTICLE 19 releases its legal analysis of the Internally Displaced
Persons Bill for Kenya (“the Draft Bill”), welcoming the initiative to
institutionalise protection and assistance for internally displaced
persons (IDPs). The Draft Bill contains robust provisions to increase
information flows to and from IDPs, but the effectiveness of protection
and assistance to IDPs will depend on stronger safeguards for
information rights, greater participation of IDPs in decision-making,
and enhancing transparency.

July, after the charges of inciting social hatred originally brought
against him in connection with the Zhanaozen riots in December 2011,
were dropped. ARTICLE 19 considers these charges politically motivated.

under its French acronym) established after the revolution to reform
Tunisian media, has announced today 4 July that it has shut down after
failing to achieve its objective, accusing the government of
censorship.

TODAY, by a huge majority, the European parliament voted to reject ACTA
This is the first time in its history that the European Parliament votes
to reject an international treaty already approved by the European
Commission and by 22 of its 27 members.This is a massive victory for
Civil Society in Europe and beyond, including ARTICLE 19.
