Computer visualizations show future traffic intersections where self-driving cars whiz by each other without colliding—even though there's no traffic light regulating which ones get to proceed. A big step toward that future has been realized on a segment of Germany's autobahn. Cars talked to each other via cellular networks, keeping each other up to date hundreds of times a second on things like speed and intended lane changes. The goal is to substitute shared data for the one thing robots lack: intuition. |
