CEZ to quit Romanian new-build joint venture

Czech state-owned power utility CEZ will sell its stake in the consortium established to construct, commission and operate two new reactors at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant in Romania, after signing an amendment to the joint venture contract.
Construction on schedule for first Sanmen unit

The project to build the world's first AP1000, China's Sanmen 1, reached a construction milestone when the third steel ring of the plant's containment vessel was hoisted into place. Work on the Westinghouse plant is now back on schedule, despite falling six months behind at the end of last year.

Olkiluoto expands interim used fuel storage

Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) is to double capacity for the interim storage of used fuel at its Olkiluoto nuclear power plant. A contract has been awarded for the construction of three new storage pools at the site.

Contamination incident at Koeberg

South African utility Eskom has launched an investigation into a contamination incident earlier this month at its Koeberg nuclear power plant near Cape Town in which 91 workers received small doses of radiation.

Full power postponed for Oskarshamn 3

Swedish nuclear operator OKG has decided not to push Oskarshamn 3 to its maximum capacity until 2011 for the sake of a secure electricity supply over the coming winter.
Summer simulator contract for GSE

Weeks after being awarded a contract to construct the first plant-specific Westinghouse AP1000 plant simulator in the USA, GSE Systems has now won a contract for a plant-specific AP1000 simulator for the VC Summer site in South Carolina.
Russian isotope deal for MDS Nordion

Canadian radioisotope supplier MDS Nordion has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with JSC Isotope of Russia that will give it exclusive rights over the distribution and sales of Isotope's molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) production outside the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian government has reportedly declared Russian nuclear fuel company TVEL the winner of the tender to construct a fuel manufacturing plant in Ukraine.

Bushehr unaffected by computer virus

Iranian officials said that the new Bushehr nuclear power plant has not been affected by a sophisticated computer virus, possibly targeting the plant, although personal computers of plant staff had been infected, Reuters reported.
CNNC prepares for massive investment

China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) plans to invest 800 billion yuan ($120 billion) into nuclear energy projects by 2020, in line with the country's move to accelerate the development of the industry, the China Daily reported.
LaSalle uprate gets nod from regulator

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved a 1.65% uprate of both unit 1 and 2 of Exelon's LaSalle nuclear power plant in Illinois. Exelon plans to increase the generating capacity of each boiling water reactor (BWR) from some 1179 MWe to 1192 MWe.
