Royal Academy: Prepare for electric cars

Countries move to host Allegro reactor

Moves have been made to site the Allegro advanced reactor in central Europe. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia have agreed to make a joint proposal to host the demonstration fast reactor project that should operate before 2022.

A Conservative minister has been appointed to be responsible for nuclear energy at the UK's Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), which will be headed by a Liberal Democrat secretary of state.

Collaboration eyes nuclear pump market

UK engineering group Weir is to team up with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to supply and maintain pumps for new nuclear power plants, initially in the UK, but later throughout Europe.
Deal for American Centrifuge

South Africa agrees to cooperate with Algeria

South Africa has signed an intergovernmental agreement with Algeria on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, the South African Press Association reported. In addition to energy, the two countries will cooperate on "exchanges in the production of medical radioisotopes."
