1. Public opinion polls show that the majority of Americans and Westerners agree with the views of "conspiracy theorists" more than those of government officials and media personalities.

Public opinion polls show that public trust in government and the media is at an all time low. Their record of lying to the Western public is difficult to conceal, even with the biggest propaganda machine in history at their disposal. The growth and influence of the global alternative media has broken the magic spell over the public. The "mainstream media" is no longer mainstream. The old fringe is the new mainstream.

Conspiracy theorists have been proven right about so many issues and historical events, with 9/11 being the most important among them. The views of conspiracy theorists are more popular than ever because they are telling the truth.
Comment: While we applaud the hard work done by the alternative media in trying to sift through the lies of the government and main stream press, some people are more likely disinfo agents. They may by unwitting puppets of the PTB, discrediting the work of the real alternative press, and very often it is difficult work determining who is trustworthy.

It wasn't their fault, has been the lame excuse. Ordinary German soldiers had nothing to do with the atrocities committed by Hitler and his hardcore Nazi henchmen.

But now a disturbing - and at times horrifyingly graphic - new book has laid to rest the myth that only the likes of the SS and Gestapo were responsible for war crimes and acts of rape, murder and genocide.

And the German people have been forced into reassessing their past.

Soldaten: On Fighting, Killing and Dying: The Secret Second World War Tapes of German POWs, which is published in English for the first time next week, contains shocking transcripts of ordinary soldiers, sailors and airmen condemning themselves from their own mouths.

We are printing some of them here to highlight how widespread the bloodlust was among German troops.

British intelligence hid microphones among POWs at Trent Park detention centre in North London, captured every boast, offhand remark and sick joke about the killing of children and new mothers, women being raped and the mass extermination of Jews.

The transcripts from tape recordings of 13,000 inmates over four years, form the most unique and bleak look inside the mind of war-time German forces ever published. Before the book by historians Soenke Neitzel and Harald Welzer came out in Germany, people there assumed that their fathers and grandfathers did not have blood on their hands.

Piers_Morgan_Embarrased_On_Nat.jpg

CNN Anchor Piers Morgan was embarrassed by his own audience trying to echo government propaganda points only to be soundly countered by Jesse Ventura.

During Friday's appearance on CNN's Piers Morgan Show former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura countered numerous government propaganda talking points.

It was so bad that Morgan who was simply at a loss of any logical counter arguments was forced only to resort to the "you are a tin foil hat wearing crack pot" tactic.

Morgan receiving a cool reception to his own audience threw out the line "I think you make good points and I think you make crackpot points" to discredit Ventura and then hurriedly tried to change the subject by moving along to the next topic.

But Ventura wasn't having it and put Morgan in his place telling him "No! No! Now you wait!".

There is a massive deception campaign in the US, and in its global propaganda, which seeks to portray the United States as a poor set-upon nation that would like world peace but just has to keep a military stationed around the globe to "police" all the world's "trouble spots."

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

That truth is that the US is the biggest war-monger the world has ever known.

Let's start with its budget. According to research by the War Resisters League, the US, in fiscal year 2012, budgeted a total of $673 billion for the military, plus another $166 billion for military activities of other government departments, such as the nuclear weapons program, much of which is handled by the Department of Energy, or the Veterans Program, which pays for the care and benefits of former military personnel. There's also another roughly $440 billion in interest paid on the debt from prior wars and military expenditures. All together, that comes to $1.3 trillion, which represents close to 50% of the general budget of the United States -- the highest percentage of a government budget devoted to the military of any modern nation in the world -- and perhaps of any government of any nation in the world.

That spending represents also the world's biggest percentage of national gross domestic product devoted to the military (GDP is a measure of all economic activity in a nation). Looking at the other countries with big militaries -- China, Russia, Britain and France -- not only does not one come even close in terms of the percent of GDP spent on its military, but taken together, all of their expenditures on their military combined total less than half what the US spends by itself.

A senior Hamas official has confirmed that the group's leader, Khaled Mashaal, will not be seeking re-election. Mashaal will, however, remain a member of the Islamist party.

Mashaal, who has led Hamas from various Arab capitals since 1996, told a meeting of senior officials in Cairo last week that he had no desire to remain its chief and that his decision not to run in the election was final, a diplomatic source told the Jerusalem Post earlier Sunday.

"When Mashaal said he was not seeking re-election, a message was sent to him from the movement's leaders, unanimously asking him to change his mind," senior Hamas official Salal Bardawil told Ma'an news agency.

The diplomatic source told the Jerusalem Post that Mashaal was tired of policy changes from the group's leadership.

"Mashaal has grown impatient with some of his Gaza officials who recently tried to undermine decisions he took on behalf of the group," the source said.

The leader angered Hamas' leadership earlier this year when he agreed that its main rival, the Fatah movement, could lead any future unity government.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the prolongation of the current Western dispute over the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program is in no one's interest.

myriam20120924063246053.jpg

"If everyone tries to reduce negative outlooks, we will be more successful in resolving the issue," Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Iranian president stressed that clearing the misunderstandings regarding Tehran's nuclear energy program can help resolve disagreements.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

US President Barack Obama says Israel's call for drawing red line over Iran's nuclear energy program is just "noise" he tries to ignore.

Obama made the remarks in an interview with CBS channel on Sunday, saying the issue concerns US national security decisions, and that he will do what is right for the US people.

"When it comes to our national security decisions, any pressure that I feel is simply to do what's right for the American people. And I am going to block out any noise that's out there," Obama said.

Tension between Israel and the United States over Iran's nuclear energy program bubbled to the surface again earlier this month when White House spokesman Jay Carney said that Washington insists there is still "time and space" to resolve the issue.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the international community to set a "clear red line" for Iran over its nuclear energy program on September 2.

However, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on September 10 that Washington is "not setting deadlines" for a diplomatic resolution of the dispute over Iran's nuclear energy program.

Britain wants to set up joint diplomatic missions in foreign countries with Canada, British Foreign Secretary William Hague says, amid reports that London wants to rally forces against the European Union.

Hague said the joint missions that might in the future also involve Australia and New Zealand will give Britain "a bigger reach abroad for less cost."

Hague, who is visiting Canada, said he will announce the details of the plan after a meeting with his Canadian counterpart John Bird in Ottawa on Monday.

The Foreign Secretary said Canada and Britain are "first cousins" that is two nations "under one Queen and united by one set of values."

Japan, Tokyo - Three Chinese ships briefly entered what Japan considers its territorial waters near disputed islands in the East China Sea on Monday, prompting an official protest from Tokyo and renewed diplomatic efforts to cool tensions between the rivals.

In a move that could further complicate the territorial row that is threatening relations between Asia's biggest economies, a group of fishermen from Taiwan -- which also claims the rocky isles -- said as many as 100 boats escorted by 10 Taiwan Coast Guard vessels would arrive in the area later on Monday.

China's Xinhua news agency said in the morning that two civilian surveillance ships were undertaking a "rights defense" patrol near the islands, citing the State Oceanic Administration, which controls the ships. One fishery patrol vessel was also detected inside waters claimed by Japan.

Japan lodged an official protest.

By afternoon, all three Chinese vessels had moved further away, the Japanese Coast Guard said.

Washington - New voting laws in 23 of the 50 states could keep more than 10 million Hispanic U.S. citizens from registering and voting, a new study said on Sunday, a number so large it could affect the outcome of the November 6 election.

The Latino community accounts for more than 10 percent of eligible voters nationally. But the share in some states is high enough that keeping Hispanic voters away from the polls could shift some hard-fought states from support for Democratic President Barack Obama and help his Republican rival, Mitt Romney.

The new laws include purges of people suspected of not being citizens in 16 states that unfairly target Latinos, the civil rights group Advancement Project said in the study to be formally released on Monday.

Laws in effect in one state and pending in two others require proof of citizenship for voter registration. That imposes onerous and sometimes expensive documentation requirements on voters, especially targeting naturalized American citizens, many of whom are Latino, the liberal group said.

Nine states have passed restrictive photo identification laws that impose costs in time and money for millions of Latinos who are citizens but do not yet have the required identification, it said.

Diamond District finds 10 tungsten-filled bars

Federal agents are investigating the peddling of bogus gold bars in Midtown.

The Post has learned as many as 10 fake gold bars - made up mostly of relatively worthless tungsten - were sold recently to unsuspecting dealers in Manhattan's Midtown Diamond District.

The price of gold has risen more than 600 percent since January 2000, while the S&P 500 index is down 0.6 percent over the same period.

The 10-oz. gold bars are hugely popular with Main Street investors, and it is not known how many of the fake gold bars were sold to dealers - or if any fake bars were purchased by the public.

One gold dealer discovered that four of the 3-inch-by-1-inch gold bars he bought - worth about $72,000 retail - were counterfeit.

"It has the entire street on edge," said Ibrahim Fadl, 62, who has been the owner of Express Metal Refining, a Midtown gold-refinery business, for the last 11 years. "I and the others on the street work off of trust; now that trust is strained."

It has been three years since the US government approved a list of Guantanamo Bay detainees for release. On Friday, the names of those 55 inmates who had been authorized for transfer were made public.

The Department of Justice stated that there was no longer a "need to withhold" the information. However, the prisoners in question remain on the island.

The US government has previously said that a list could not be released as it would hinder efforts to repatriate and resettle prisoners in other countries. A large proportion of the men are believed to be Yemeni.

In January 2010, President Obama suspended further transfers to Yemen, saying the country's atmosphere was too "unsettled" to be certain that detainees wouldn't engage in terrorist activities.

Shane Kadidal of the Center for Constitutional Rights claims the list still "seems to not include the Yemenis cleared for conditional release."

The Pentagon has awarded Academi, the security company previously known as Blackwater, part of a $20 billion five year contract to train military intelligence agents. It comes despite the firm earlier being fined by a US court for illegal arms trade.

The US Defense Intelligence Agency announced on Thursday that it would hire six private security companies, including Academi, for the contract. The contractors are to train agents "before they leave on overseas deployments, to provide them with a foundation of hard and soft skills relevant to living and working in hostile and austere environments," the document says.

Academi declined to comment on the contract when asked by Wired's Danger Room blog, saying it is not finalized yet. But it may be one of the first US governmental contracts it received after changing ownership and re-branding for a second time. Blackwater dropped its scandal-tainted name and became Xe Services in 2009, but in late December 2011 changed it again.

In August, Academi struck a deal with the US Justice Department and agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle what the company described as a "legacy matter" left behind by former managers and owners, including founder Erik Prince, who sold his interest in 2010.

The US Senate has threatened to impose political sanctions on Ukraine over the jailing of former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, urging Kiev to immediately release the opposition leader.

The Senate adopted a resolution on Saturday that stressed that the Tymoshenko trial was "politically motivated" and urged her immediate release citing her poor health condition.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry dismissed the resolution, saying in a statement that commenting on it would be "unreasonable".

It further claimed the resolution had been passed in great haste just minutes before the end of the session, with "less than half a dozen acting members of the chamber" still present.

"The friends of the Tymoshenko team did everything to bring into the Ukrainian media space yet another falsified pretext for groundless arguments and discrediting of the upcoming parliamentary election. These efforts go against Ukraine's national interests and are bound to fail," the ministry lashed out.

In October 2011, Tymoshenko - President Viktor Yanukovich's main political rival - was found guilty of abuse of office over a 2009 gas deal with Russia. Since then the former prime minister has been serving a seven-year sentence at a jail in the city of Kharkov.

The US government has already proven its intent to see all evil, with the use of Orwellian programs like TrapWire. But it can now hear all evil too, as law enforcement agencies implement a tool able to store, analyze and identify voices in seconds.

'Voice Grid Nation' is a system that uses advanced algorithms to match identities to voices. Brought to the US by Russia's Speech Technology Center, it claims to be capable of allowing police, federal agencies and other law enforcement personnel to build up a huge database containing up to several million voices.

When authorities intercept a call they've deemed 'hinky', the recording is entered into the VoiceGrid program, which (probably) buzzes and whirrs and spits out a match. In five seconds, the program can scan through 10,000 voices, and it only needs 3 seconds for speech analysis. All that, combined with 100 simultaneous searches and the storage capacity of 2 million samples, gives SpeechPro, as the company is known in the US, the right to claim a 90% success rate.

According to Slate.com's Ryan Gallagher, who spoke with SpeechPro president Aleksey Khitrov, the software is already being used in many different countries and for 'noble causes' only - like in Mexico, where Voice Grid helped identify and apprehend kidnappers during a ransom call, thus saving their victim's life.

Both the FBI and the NSA have expressed interest in the program, which is also expected to be used at 911 call centers and police precincts. And sample lists would, of course, contain 'persons of interest' - known criminals, terror suspects or people on a watch list.

Or would it?

micro_drones_fleet_600x450.jpg

A poll conducted by Monmouth University and cited in a Government Accountability Office report published yesterday indicates that only 15 percent of Americans say they are "not at all concerned" that the use of drones by law enforcement will invade their privacy.

At the same time, 67 percent say they are opposed to police using drones to issue speeding tickets.

The GAO report said that law enforcement agencies are "the greatest potential users" of small drones within the United States.

"Domestically, state and local law enforcement entities represent the greatest potential users of small UAS [unmanned aircraft systems] in the near term because they can offer a simple and cost effective solution for airborne law enforcement activities," said the GAO report.

"For example, federal officials and one airborne law enforcement official said that a small UAS costing between $30,000 and $50,000 is more likely to be purchased by state and local law enforcement entities because the cost is nearly equivalent to that of a patrol car and much less than a manned aircraft," said GAO. "According to an industry trade group, local law enforcement can potentially choose from about 146 different types of small UAS being manufactured by about 69 different companies in the U.S."

A pastor is accused of using cash from a $4.8m fund he started to help victims of 9/11 and hurricane Katrina to pay off his mortgage, credit card bills and his son's tuition fees, it was revealed on Monday.

As New Yorkers grieved in the aftermath of horrific terrorist attacks on the twin towers, Rev. Carl Keyes was plotting his rise to wealth.

Donors poured $2.5 million into the minister's charities, Urban Life Ministries and Aid for the World, but much of the fund never made it past his pocket, it has been claimed.

Far from helping the needy, Keyes' alleged new-found fortune went on treating himself and his family, and pouring money into his crumbling church.

He is accused of taking credit for the work of others at ground zero, embellishing his involvement and fabricating phoney demonstrations of his efforts as a good Samaritan.

Keyes' pot of wealth seemed ever increasing with generous donors contributing to what they believed to be a genuine cause, with more opportunities to raise relief money coming four years later.

At least another $2.3 million was collected for efforts along the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast, in the poorest corners of West Virginia and Tennessee, and even in remote African villages.

We will all swallow our cup of corporate poison. We can take it from nurse Romney, who will tell us not to whine and play the victim, or we can take it from nurse Obama, who will assure us that this hurts him even more than it hurts us, but one way or another the corporate hemlock will be shoved down our throats. The choice before us is how it will be administered. Corporate power, no matter who is running the ward after January 2013, is poised to carry out U.S. history's most savage assault against the poor and the working class, not to mention the Earth's ecosystem. And no one in power, no matter what the bedside manner, has any intention or ability to stop it.

If you insist on participating in the cash-drenched charade of a two-party democratic election at least be clear about what you are doing. You are, by playing your assigned role as the Democratic or Republican voter in this political theater, giving legitimacy to a corporate agenda that means your own impoverishment and disempowerment. All the things that stand between us and utter destitution - Medicaid, food stamps, Pell grants, Head Start, Social Security, public education, federal grants-in-aid to America's states and cities, the Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program (WIC), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and home-delivered meals for seniors - are about to be shredded by the corporate state. Our corporate oligarchs are harvesting the nation, grabbing as much as they can, as fast as they can, in the inevitable descent.

Police called to break up riot at Taiyuan plant.

foxconn_4.jpg

A Foxconn plant has been closed following a riot that apparently took place at the facility late on Sunday. Engadget reports that the incident went down at the Taiyuan plant, the same site as the March salary strike that saw staff stop working and demand a pay raise.

The reason for the riot is not immediately clear. Engadget points to unofficial news reports that say the whole thing was started as a result of security guards hitting a worker at 10 p.m. Sunday. Indeed, Reuters cites an unconfirmed report on Sina Weibo that claims four or five guards beat a worker 'almost to death'. Another post claims guards beat up two workers from Henan province. However, despite these reports, Foxconn told Reuters in a statement that the incident that triggered the riot involved only employees. Foxconn said it was a result of a personal dispute between employees. What's more, the component manufacturer said the dispute was not work-related. A senior official from the Taiyuan city government is quoted by the Xinhua news agency as saying employees from Shandong Province clashed with staff from Henan Province and sparked the riot.

Whatever the reason, it was enough to close the plant down. Reports indicate that 5,000 police were on site to break up the mayhem. Though Foxconn hasn't said how long the plant will stay closed, an employee told Reuters that the company would be closed for up to three days. The Taiyuan plant employs almost 80,000 people.

On Tuesday, night, Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever was killed in a single vehicle crash while on his way to join his sons on a family hunting trip near White Horses Lake, according to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).

The Tucson Sentinel reports that an unidentified driver was actually following Sheriff Dever on the lonely Forest Service road, but lost sight of his 2008 Chevrolet pickup for a brief period.

Then, the driver "saw what appeared to be a cloud of dust, and as he came closer he learned that the vehicle had rolled over and was resting on its wheels."

The witness told 911 operators: "he did not detect any signs of life from the single occupant of the vehicle," according to a CCSO press release.

Sheriff Dever leaves behind a wife, six children and 11 grandchildren.

Canada, Montreal - One Quebec student group says that with tuition hikes officially off the table, it will now champion the idea of free education.

The new Parti Quebecois government scrapped a controversial increase in post-secondary tuition fees this week and a hardline student group is now turning to free education as its long-term goal.

CLASSE, which speaks for 100,000 Quebec students, says free education is entirely achievable and used a march attended by several hundred people on Saturday to highlight the issue.

"Our struggle for accessibility to higher education is not yet over," said Jeremie Bedard-Wien, a spokesman for CLASSE.

Free education is not a position that is shared by the province's two other major student associations and with the proposed hike by the former Liberal government formally cancelled, Quebec has the lowest tuition in the country again.

But CLASSE says it wants education to be completely accessible by being entirely free.

It's an opinion that has limited political support.

The PQ government has said it favours indexing tuition to inflation but has promised to call a symposium on the issue.

Carol Patterson was waiting for a call from her doctor. When the phone rang on that afternoon in August 2011 at her home in Cortland, Ohio, it wasn't a physician on the other end. A woman named Robin said she was representing the American Diabetes Association.

iuJPb75f92SE.jpg

Robin didn't ask for money. She asked Patterson to stamp and mail pre-printed fundraising letters to 15 neighbors. Both of Patterson's parents and one grandmother had been diabetic, so she agreed to do it, Bloomberg Markets magazine reports in its October issue.

"I thought since it does run in the family, it wouldn't hurt for me to help," says Patterson, 64, a retired elementary school teacher. She guessed, based on what she knew about charity fundraising, that about 70 to 80 percent of the money she brought in would be used for diabetes research.

The truth was almost the exact opposite. The vast majority of funds Patterson, her neighbors and people like them throughout the country would raise -- almost 80 percent -- would never be made available to the Diabetes Association. Instead, that money collected from letters sent to neighbors would go to the company that employed Robin and an army of other paid telephone solicitors: InfoCision Management Corp.

Police representatives said that when two officers arrived, the disabled man cornered one policeman and threatened him with a metal object.

Another officer opened fire, saying was forced to take action, "fearing for his partner's safety and his own safety", after the man refused to calm down and remain still, police told AP.

Later, the metal object that the one-armed, one-legged, wheelchair-bound man was waving turned out to be a pen.

Russia - Seven people were killed, including several disabled teens, after a drunk driver ran his speeding car into a bus stop in the Russian capital.

The car plowed the bus stop and literally tore it out of the ground. However, this did not stop the out-of-control vehicle, with a speed 120 kilometers per hour. The car dragged the ruined bus stop for about 10 meters, pulling everyone who was waiting for the bus under it.

Seven people were killed at the scene and at least one person was injured.

Police have already identified all the bodies, but are not revealing the names of the dead in the interests of the investigation, the Moscow police press service said.

Due to the fact the information is undisclosed, there is uncertainty concerning the age of the victims.

According to the Moscow police version posted on their website, there are four adults and three teenagers.

However, there is a possibility that among the dead were two teachers at an assisted living facility - a wife and husband - and their five students, all minors.

Oregon City, Oregon - Police say a Nevada man who lost his iPad on an airplane used an app called Find My iPad to locate it inside the Oregon home of a flight attendant.

Officers in Oregon City, outside Portland, arrested 43-year-old Wendy Ronelle Dye Friday evening.

The flight attendant for Horizon Air allegedly told officers that a passenger brought her the tablet saying it was found on a seat. She said she never used the iPad and planned to turn it over to airline officials, but police found some of her personal information on it including her husband's birthday.

Arrangements are being made to return the tablet to its owner in Reno. Dye did not immediately respond to a phone message.

A spokeswoman for Alaska Airlines, which owns Horizon, says Dye was suspended.

Spain, Madrid - Fans rioted outside a free concert hosted by MTV at a Madrid theater early Saturday after they were denied entry because the venue was full to capacity, officials said. About 60 people sustained minor injuries and 11 others were arrested.

Thousands of people had turned up at the venue late Friday for the lineup of Spanish Indie music acts, police said. Once the theater was full, scuffles broke out in the streets outside and people began throwing bottles.

Riot police, some on horseback, were deployed to the area after garbage containers were set ablaze. Several parked cars were damaged in the unrest and blazing objects were placed in the road to obstruct the arrival of police vehicles. Hundreds of youngsters ran away from the scene as police vans began to arrive, according to video footage on the website of news agency Europa Press.

"I saw thousands of young people blocking roads near the theater as fire trucks and ambulances began to arrive," taxi driver Jesus Gonzalez said after driving past the area at 3 a.m.

The Department of Education is giving morning-after pills and other birth-control drugs to students at 13 high schools, The Post has learned.

School nurse offices stocked with the contraceptives can dispense "Plan B" emergency contraception and other oral or injectable birth control to girls without telling their parents - unless parents opt out after getting a school informational letter about the new program.

CATCH - Connecting Adolescents To Comprehensive Health - is part of a citywide attack against the epidemic of teen pregnancy, which spurs many girls - most of them poor - to drop out of school.

While Big Apple high schools have long supplied free condoms to sexually active teens, this is the first time city schools have dispensed hormonal birth control and Plan B, which can prevent pregnancy if taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex.

It might be a nationwide first as well. The National Association of School Nurses could cite no other school district supplying Plan B.

So far, during an unpublicized pilot program in five city schools last year, 567 students received Plan B tablets and 580 students received Reclipsen birth-control pills, the city Department of Health told The Post.

This fall, students can also get Depo-Provera, a birth-control drug injected once every three months, officials said.

Oral and injectable contraceptives require prescriptions, which, in the CATCH program, are written by Health Department doctors.

A man who posed as a pilot and joined cabin crew in a plane cockpit has been arrested, Italian police said today.

The unemployed 32-year-old man, whose real identity was not released, created a fake profile for himself on Facebook and called himself Andrea Sirlo, even posting pictures of himself wearing a uniform and Aviator sunglasses.

To complete the illusion he made up fake identity cards and even sent himself imaginary comments from dozens of fake cabin crew friends who expressed their 'delight' at being rostered with him on flights.

Police held the man in the bar at Turin's Caselle airport and revealed details of the elaborate scam at a press conference - as they compared it to the hit Leonardo Di Caprio film Catch Me If You Can in which he posed as a fake pilot and con man who flew more than one million miles around the world in the 1960s.

Officers said they believed he had flown in the cockpit of at least one flight between Munich and Turin in October last year and a link on his Facebook page highlighted the trip on a low budget airline called Air Dolomiti but did not take command of the plane.

Pittsburgh - Eighty-four billion pieces of junk mail were delivered to our doors last year - music to the ears of the U.S. Postal Service.

"We certainly have to fill in the void when it comes to revenue," says the agency's Tad Kelley

There's been a huge recession-related decline in the volume of first class mail. The postal service hasn't relied directly on taxpayer dollars since the early 80′s.

Cutting costs only goes so far in easing serious budget deficits, so the USPS is looking to junk mail as a rescue remedy to add more revenues.

Bangkok - Police officers of Dindang police station arrested Mrs. Wonnt Lalita, age 50, nationality Cambodian, for claiming that she was representing Jesus, and opening an unlicensed medical clinic of massage therapy to cure general illnesses.

The self-proclaimed divine healer was arrested after a 22-year-old diabetic female patient died in her clinic on June 19. The patient was identified as "Ms. Mo"(alias).

Ms. Mo had just graduated with first-class honors from the Faculty of Education, department of Early Childhood Education and majoring in Elementary Education. She was supposed to have attended her graduation ceremony in July.

After the patient died, her father filed a complaint with Mrs. Chanthana Jindathawornkit, the director of the law office of the Department of Health Service Support in the Ministry of Public Health.

The patient's father, Mr. Paiboon (surname withheld), age 51, said that his daughter came to have therapy at Mrs. Wonnt's clinic for her diabetes. The one-room clinic was named Lalita Wongt Co. Ltd, and was in a 1-story business building, located on No. 22, Soi Choomchuen, Asoke, Dindang Road, Dindang, Dindang.

The outlaw doctor claimed she could cure people with her body massaging, and told his daughter to stop taking her diabetes pills. But stopping the pills caused her death, according to the health director Mrs. Chanthana, who co-operated with police officers to arrest the doctor.

papyrus_egypt_goddess_mut.jpg

A recently deciphered Egyptian papyrus from around 1,900 years ago tells a fictional story that includes drinking, singing, feasting and ritual sex, all in the name of the goddess Mut.

Researchers believe that a priest wrote the blush-worthy tale, as a way to discuss controversial ritual sex acts with other priests.

"Our text may represent a new and hitherto unrecognized Egyptian literary genre: 'cult' fiction, the purpose of which was to allow controversial or contentious matters pertaining to the divine cult to be scrutinized in this way," wrote professors Richard Jasnow and Mark Smith, who published their translation and analysis of the papyrus in the most recent edition of the journal Enchoria.

Jasnow, from Johns Hopkins University, and Smith, from Oxford, write that evidence of ritual sex is rare in ancient Egypt and the act probably would have been controversial.

"There is surprisingly little unequivocal Egyptian evidence for the performance of the sex act as such in ritual contexts," Jasnow and Smith wrote.

They added that the Egyptians were known to discuss other controversial matters using fictional stories.

New Haven, Connecticut - The love letters, school papers and dramatic works of college-age Joseph Goebbels reveal a romantic young man beginning to show signs of anti-Semitism and egotistical and controlling behavior, according to a Connecticut auction house selling the pre-war writings of Adolf Hitler's propaganda chief.

Alexander Historical Auctions plans to sell the collection on Sept. 27 in Stamford, saying it may prove invaluable in providing historical and psychological insights.

"It sums up the formative years of the number two man in the Third Reich, who was responsible for motivating the masses in Germany to back Hitler," said Bill Panagopulos, the company's president. "In my opinion, it shows how this rather simple, shy and love-struck college student really just became radicalized."

The thousands of pages include Goebbels' college dissertation, report cards, dozens of poems, school essays and letters from relatives, friends and girlfriends.

"You really get a feel for what's going on in his head," Panagopulos said. "There's a lot of information if somebody wants to dig into the mind of this man who grew into a lunatic."

In an early sign of his ego, Goebbels would sign some of his materials with numerous signatures. Toward the later years of the collection, Goebbels is starting to show anti-Semitic tendencies, Panagopulos said. He added that the auction house has only translated about 10 percent of the papers and has had a tough time with Goebbels' handwriting.

The sale sparked concerns by a leader of a Holocaust survivors group who criticized the auction house's sale last year of the journals written by Nazi death camp doctor Josef Mengele.

Top NASA officials have picked a leading candidate for the agency's next major mission: construction of an outpost that would send astronauts farther from Earth than they've ever been. The "gateway spacecraft" would hover in orbit on the far side of the moon, support a small crew and function as a staging area for future missions to the moon and Mars.

At 277,000 miles from Earth, the outpost would be far more remote than the current space station, which orbits a little more than 200 miles above Earth. The distance raises complex questions of how to protect astronauts from the radiation of deep space - and rescue them if something goes wrong.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden briefed the White House earlier this month on details of the proposal, but it was unclear whether it had the administration's support. Of critical importance is the cost, which would probably be billions, if not tens of billions, of dollars.

eunuch.jpg

It's a life-extending strategy most men probably won't want to pursue, but new research suggests eunuchs live longer than non-castrated guys.

Historical Korean eunuchs - men who had their testicles removed in order to secure high positions in the palace hierarchy - outlived their non-castrated counterparts by as much as 20 years, the study finds.

The results will be published tomorrow (Sept. 25) in the journal Current Biology.

In animals, castration tends to lengthen life span, likely because male sex hormones aren't great for the health. Testosterone is an immune-system suppressor, for example, and can also increase the risk for cardiovascular disease.

But in humans, results have been mixed as to whether castration lengthens life span. One study on patients in a mental hospital found that it does, while another on castrated and non-castrated male singers found that it does not.

Nevertheless, researchers have theorized that testosterone's effects may be the reason women outlive men on average. Other research has suggested a genetic explanation for this life-span gap.

In the new study, Inha University researcher Kyung-Jin Min and his colleagues scoured the historical records from Korea's Chosun (or Joseon) Dynasty, which ran from 1392 to 1910.

Until 1894, castration was a way for men to gain access to political power and prestige in the dynasty. Eunuchs could achieve official ranks and marry and adopt girls and similarly castrated boys in order to maintain a family lineage. Eunuchs and male royal family members were the only men allowed to stay overnight in the royal palace.

darpa_ct2ws_threat_detection_e.jpg

After more than four years of research, DARPA has created a system that successfully combines soldiers, EEG brainwave scanners, 120-megapixel cameras, and multiple computers running cognitive visual processing algorithms into a cybernetic hivemind. Called the Cognitive Technology Threat Warning System (CT2WS), it will be used in a combat setting to significantly improve the US Army's threat detection capabilities.

There are two discrete parts to the system: The 120-megapixel camera, which is tripod-mounted and looks over the battlefield (pictured below); and the computer system, where a soldier sits in front of a computer monitor with an EEG stra
pped to his head (pictured above). Images from the camera are fed into the computer system, which runs cognitive visual processing algorithms to detect possible threats (enemy combatants, sniper nests, IEDs). These possible threats are then shown to a soldier whose brain then works out if they're real threats - or a false alarm (a tree branch, a shadow thrown by an overheard bird).

backscatter_security_scan_010.jpg

Manchester airport is abandoning the use of controversial security scanners that produce "naked" images after failing to get approval from the European Commission.

The backscatter body scanners, Doctor Who Tardis-like blue boxes between which passengers must stand to produce a ghostly image of the body's naked outline, will cease to be used from the end of October. The decision was made because the commission has failed to give permission in time for an existing three-year trial to be made permanent.

The scanners have proved controversial amid claims they are an invasion of passengers' privacy. There have also been questions over safety, but a panel of independent European health experts unanimously found in March this year that there was "no evidence" they posed health risks.
Comment: One always needs to question the findings of 'independent' 'panel's' of 'experts'. Disappointing, yet predictable that the machines will be replaced with alternatives. But for the technology companies supplying the scanners, airport security is a racket.

Dragon is expected to return near the end of October

DragonISS1.jpg

SpaceX is about to take another historical step for the private sector: its Dragon capsule will carry a load of supplies to the International Space Station (ISS) on its first official mission.

SpaceX's Dragon made its first trip to the ISS back in May of this year as a test run. All went well, with the Dragon successfully docking at the ISS and then splashing down into the Pacific Ocean.

Thanks to that successful run, SpaceX can now move forward with its very first official mission. The Dragon capsule will carry 1,000 pounds of supplies to the ISS on October 7, and plans to reach the orbiting station on October 10.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - A fleet of picture-snapping NASA satellites that for 40 years has documented forest fires, tsunamis and everyday changes in the Earth's geography will soon get a new member.

With Landsat 8 set for a February launch, nearly 140 scientists and engineers from more than 25 countries are scheduled to gather in South Dakota next week to discuss how to best download, process and distribute the millions of data-rich images used in agriculture, education, business and government.

Since 1972, Landsat satellites have been continuously snapping pictures across the globe as part of a 40-year mission to document the planet.

But with Landsat 7 aging and its older sibling Landsat 5 failing, a new orbiter is needed to continue the long-term data record, said Jenn Sabers, remote sensing branch chief at the U.S. Geological Survey Center for Earth Resources Observations and Science.

"One of the things we want to do is preserve that legacy by ensuring that we collect consistent data with the prior missions," Sabers said. "Although we have that consistency, we also want to make improvements."

The USGS Center for EROS, located in the middle of farmland north of Sioux Falls, is the main federal repository for satellite images. Officials wanted to locate the centre in the middle of the U.S, and they chose South Dakota in 1970 over several other states, partly due to persistent campaigning by the late Sen. Karl Mundt.

US, California - The space shuttle Endeavour touched down in Los Angeles on Friday on the back of a jumbo jet, greeted by cheering crowds as it ended a celebratory final flight en route to its retirement home at a Southern California science museum.

The 75-ton winged spaceship, ferried by a modified Boeing 747, landed at Los Angeles International Airport shortly before 1:00 p.m. after hop-scotching across the country from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and flying a victory lap over California.

Hundreds of office workers stood atop downtown skyscrapers, cheering as the shuttle banked low around the city as it arrived from its last stopover at Edwards Air Force Base, about 100 miles north of the city in the Mojave desert.

"Let me be the first to say, welcome to Los Angeles, Endeavour," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said during a ceremony on the tarmac.

The shuttle's arrival brought two major freeways leading to the Los Angeles airport to a standstill as drivers got out of their cars to watch the spacecraft make its final approach.

sn_stratosphere_thumb_autox600.jpg

High in the stratosphere, a vortex of winds is spinning, and that lofty swirling eddy might stir the ocean depths. New supercomputer simulations suggest that the stratospheric vortex of winds helps churn the oceans around the planet - and therefore also might help shape global climate, the researchers say.

Scientists knew that activity in the stratosphere 10 kilometers to 50 kilometers above Earth plays a role in what happens in the troposphere, the part of the atmosphere extending from the planet's surface to the stratosphere.

They also knew the behavior of the troposphere influences the circulation patterns of the oceans, which, in turn, drive climate. Research reported earlier this year hinted that events in the stratosphere might directly affect the oceans, but those findings were based on a single climate model and a computer simulation that modeled the stratosphere for a relatively short 260 years.

To delve deeper into any stratosphere-oceans link, climate scientist Thomas Reichler of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and his colleagues reexamined simulations from a well-known climate model developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that compiled 4000 years of atmospheric and ocean conditions, and compared these with weather and ocean data collected over the past 30 years. These revealed a surprising link between stratospheric winds and ocean currents as deep as 2 kilometers beneath the waves.

The researchers report online today in Nature Geoscience that the findings from that climate model were supported with data from 18 other models.

Every 2 years on average, they found, the stratosphere suddenly warms by several tens of degrees Celsius. During these events, a polar vortex of up-to-130-kilometer-per-hour stratospheric winds encircling the Arctic can weaken or change direction (from counterclockwise to clockwise around the North Pole) for up to 2 months.

Brace yourself for some painful "agflation". That is the shorthand for agricultural commodity inflation, otherwise known as rising food prices.

us_drought_2290511b.jpg

They are being driven upwards by the climb in grain and oilseed prices as US crops weather the country's worst drought since 1936, while the farming belts of Russia and South America suffer through similar water shortages.

What we are seeing represents the third major rally in global grain and oilseed prices in just half a decade.

Worse is to come, new research warns. World food prices look set to hit an all-time high in the first quarter of next year - and then keep rising, according to the analysis from Rabobank, a specialist in agricultural commodities.

By June 2013, the basket of food prices tracked by the United Nations could climb 15pc from current levels, according to the bank's analysts.

"The coming year will see the world economy re-enter a period of agflation as grain and oilseed stocks decline to critically low levels, pushing the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organisation] Food Price Index above record nominal highs set in February 2011," they say.

chunk_of_ice_croatia.jpg

An unusual event happened in Saturday in sunny Istria. Out of the blue at 6.20 PM a large chunk of ice fell and scattered on the meadow. Witnesses said the ice was about half a meter in height, long and wide about a meter and 300 - 500 kg heavy. It fell about 10 meters from the nearest house and a couple of meters from the main road.

Witnesses heard a noise they described as a flock of birds flying, baloon filled with hellium, or a missile crashing, and when the ice slammed the ground, crowd of local residents saw parts of the ice on the lawn.

Edi Ritoša was the first to come out to see the ice and five minutes later contacted Korade Korlević over whom we found out about it. As we arrived to the village, ice was melting and the kids was happy.

With its turbulent swirls and brooding peaks, this is the magnificent 'undulatus asperatus,' a new species of cloud discovered by amateur sky watchers.

Now the UK-based Cloud Appreciation Society (CAS) is lobbying for it to be formally recognised by the World Meteorological Organisation in Geneva and be included in the International Cloud Atlas. The latter has not been produced since 1975.

If the CAS is successful it will be the first time a new cloud type has been officially recognised since 1951.

Meaning 'agitated wave,' the undulatus asperatus was first photographed above Cedar Rapids in Iowa, U.S. in 2006.

Since then the rather complex formation has been spotted in France, Norway, Salcome in Devon, Middlesbrough and Perthshire in Scotland.

In a bid to get it formally recognised, the CAS has been gathering many pictures of the formation and helping with academic research, mostly conducted at Reading University.

Light rain turned over to light snow for a time late Friday night at the Duluth airport, resulting in the city's first official measurable snowfall of the season, and its earliest measurable snowfall in 17 years.

The National Weather Service recorded a tenth of an inch of snow for the day. Weather spotters in Alborn and near Canyon reported three-tenths of an inch of snow overnight. Any snow that fell didn't last long, as ground temperatures remained warm and air temperatures climbed back above 40 in the early morning hours.

Duluth's tenth of an inch was short of the record for the date - two-tenths of an inch, which fell in 1974. One-tenth of inch of snow also fell on Sept. 21, 1995, the Weather Service reported.

The Weather Service had previously reported a trace of snow on Wednesday, which tied a record for the date. A trace is not considered measurable snow.

The earliest measurable snow in Duluth was in 1991, when 2.4 inches fell on Sept. 18. The average date for the first measurable snow in Duluth is Oct. 24.

A voracious new pest is gnawing its way through East County. The gold-spotted oak borer has already killed over 21,500 trees in San Diego's inland regions. Infestations have been found on federal, state, private and Native American lands across 1,893 square miles.

"Has anyone driven through Japatul into Julian lately? We did last weekend and it was a very SAD sight! Almost all of the Oaks are BARE SKELETONS or half brown and going fast," Jerry Williams of Deerhorn Valley wrote in an e-mail to ECM.

In California, San Diego is the only region impacted so far. The hardest hit area centers around Rancho Cuyamaca State Park and the Descanso Ranger District in Cleveland National Forest. County Parks are also infested, including Dos Picos in Ramona, William Heise at Julian and Louis Stelzer in Lakeside. Ramona Patch reports that officials also fear the beetle has reached Volcan Mountain Open Space Preserve near Julian.

The infestion reaches from Pine Valley north to Lake Henshaw. At least two city parks, Marian Bear and Kate Sessions, also have trees under attack.

Native to Guatemala, southern Mexico and southeast Arizona, the beetle was first discovered in San Diego County in 2004. Experts believe it most likely hitched a ride into the area on firewood, since the gold-spotted oak borer can survive for years in dead woods. It can attack and kill coast live oaks, California black oaks and canyon oaks. Engelmann oaks and other tree species are believed safe from the pest.

The University of California, Riverside has set up a webpage with lots of information on the gold-spotted oak borer.

Canada - On the last day of summer, a few rogue snow flurries were actually spotted in Winnipeg Friday.

But Environment Canada's senior climatologist is sticking to his story.

Dave Phillips says Manitoba is still headed for a warmer-than-normal fall.

Phillips said after one of the hottest summers ever across Canada, Manitoba's lakes, rivers and the land are still very warm.

"There's a lot of residual heat that may certainly keep us warm as we move into October," he said.

That's certainly true in the short term, he added.

"Over the next few days nothing but that great Manitoba sunshine wall-to-wall."

Phillips is forecasting October to be warmer than normal, with normal to less-than-normal precipitation.

Ware Shoals, SC (Carolina) - Finding a snake in your yard may be a little scary, but what about one with two heads?

A Greenwood County family is trying to figure out how this is possible, but they've been taking care of the little guy for weeks.

Savanna Logan and her brother, Preston, have been amazed by this two-headed snake and showing it off at school since workmen at their home found it three weeks ago.

A National Geographic article reports that two-headed snakes are rare but not unheard of. It said they're formed like Siamese twins. Typically, two-headed snakes have two heads on one side, versus the one this family found, with one on each end.

Savanna Logan's grandfather took the snake to the Ware Shoals High School biology department. Teachers told him this was a "rough earth" snake and not a baby. It was nothing they'd seen before, with two heads, two tongues and four eyes.

"One head's bigger and one's more dominant than the other, but they both seem to control the body, the main head will do one thing then the other part is trying to go the opposite direction," said Savanna Logan's mother, Tina Stewart.

Savanna's grandfather has been taking care of the snake. He said he's seen it multiple times, crawl one way, stop, then pick up the other head and crawl the other way.

Clear skies allowed a clear view of the fire balls which were witnessed right across the UK, Ireland and even parts of north west Europe.

Bright 'meteor-like' tails could be seen in the sky for approximately two minutes at 10.55pm on Friday night.

Reports of "bright balls of fire with tails of fire" came from across the region, including Belfast, Ballymena, Newtonabbey and Derry.

But experts are not clear on whether the spectacular show was a space rock burning up or a piece of space junk, such as a piece of satellite or aircraft burning up in the atmosphere.

Dr Andy McCrea, former president of the Irish Astronomical Association said the display was "spectacular" and "fairly unusual" he said it was unlikely that it was a meteor shower.
Comment:
"Professor Bailey said this has happened before, notably the great meteor of August 18 1783 and a meteor procession in February 9 1913."
Ya gotta love this comment. Bailey references events from 100 and over 200 years ago, and ignores the dozens of similar events from the last few years!

Gotta keep the public calm and ignorant after all!

Estimate that I was looking at it for 3-4 sec before it faded I was facing NE. Meteor travelled right to left and appeared go be heading slightly away from me so I'd estimate that it was heading towards NNE. It was about 20 deg above horizon and on trajectory about below horizontal Bright green. Didn't hear sound ( I was in car with radio on) Much brighter than Venus. Nowhere near as bright as Moon No. Have seen one fragmenting before. This was a single point None

A Massive fireball was seen right across Ireland last night which may be "one of the best ever seen" in Europe and was a "huge event", according to Astronomy Ireland.

The trail of fragments passed across the sky at about 10.55pm with sightings reported from Dublin, Donegal, Cork, Sligo, Carlow, Longford, Antrim and across Britain and as far away as as The Netherlands.

It was "very unusual to see it in multiple countries," David Moore of Astronomy Ireland said.

"I've never seen one fragmented like that and streaked across the sky," he said. The fireball later exploded into fragments.

Mr Moore said the cause of the fireball was not yet clear. "It is a piece of space debris, but whether it is man made or natural is not known," he said.

He said it was too slow for natural debris and was going the wrong direction for man-made debris. "It is probably a space rock that has skidded across the atmosphere." Meteorites will have been dropped "but whether they landed in Ireland or at sea we will have to figure out", he said.

Witnesses described a trail of seven to 12 fireballs in a straight line across the sky. No sound was to be heard either by witnesses in the city or the countryside.

Syracuse -- Reports of a fireball in the sky over Oneida Lake scrambled several area fire departments into action Friday night.

Water rescue teams were sent to search an area off Shakelton Point near Bridgeport around 8:45 pm.

Water rescue teams were assisted by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department Air One helicopter.

Oswego 911 tells Newschannel 9 that rescue teams found no evidence of any trouble on the lake.

Several of our Facebook fans commented about the alleged fireball, while several viewers called our newsroom at about the same time claiming they had see a light in the sky at around the same time.

The American Meteor Society posted on its website several reports from people who reported seeing a fireball in the sky over the northeast United States.

Raymond Dague of the Syracuse Astronomical Society says he didn't see it, but told NewsChannel 9 he's seen reports on Twitter and elsewhere about it.

Dague believes it was a meteor, probably a relatively slow moving one beginning to burn up as it hit the atmosphere at about 60 miles up. He says these types of natural phenomenon can be quite beautiful and are a rare treat to see.

Twitter went into meltdown this evening as hundreds of people reported seeing a comet or meteor shower over the north of England.

Flashing lights apparently flew across the night sky at just before 11pm, sending people across the region into a frenzy.

Llinos Thomas, a 30-year-old dentist and Boyfriend Matt Brennen, a 26-year-old engineer, were among those who witnessed the events.

Mr Thomas said: "We were on the A55 from Chester towards North Wales and we thought we saw a firework.

"It was a massive cluster of lights in the sky, but travelling really quickly West and that's when we realised it was a meteor shower.

"It was travelling at really high speed for ten seconds and died out and faded away.

Twitter is all abuzz with sightings of a huge fireball meteor that streaked across the skies Friday night at approximately 22:00 UTC. There are reports from Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Central England.

I'm going to link a bunch of videos so you can check out the event from multiple angles, but I want to make a completely unscientific judgement: it kind of looks like a re-entering spacecraft. Take a look at what the Jules Verne spacecraft looked like when it came back into the Earth's atmosphere. See how it broke up into all those pieces? And don't let anyone fool you with this picture. It was taken about 3 years ago in the Netherlands.

Phil made a similar observation, but he's still on the fence. We'll have to wait for someone official to tell us what it was.

Did you see it? Did you get a video?

I'll give you an update as soon as I know anything else.

Here are some videos. Fair warning, there's a lot of bad language in almost all the videos. I can't blame them, I'd probably be swearing too. Just keep that in mind as you watch with your kids.

gmo_baby_formula.jpg

Many pediatricians are undermining breast feeding. One hears this from mother after mother. Paraphrasing: "Even though the baby is nursing fine and I am happy to breast feed, my pediatrician said I should start the baby on formula at 6 months." "She asked me why I was so opposed to formula." "He said not to worry if the baby had trouble latching on, just use formula."

Why are pediatricians doing this? The American Academy of Pediatrics says clearly:
"[B]reastfeeding and the use of human milk confer unique nutritional and nonnutritional benefits to the infant and the mother and, in turn, optimize infant, child, and adult health as well as child growth and development. Infant feeding should not be considered as a lifestyle choice but rather as a basic health issue. " [Emphasis added.]
So why are pediatricians urging mothers to start formula? Are they unaware that infant formula can have as much sugar as a can of coke and that sugar is toxic? Do they not know that sugar is converted into ethanol in the body and acts on it just like alcohol, causing damage to the liver just as alcoholism does?

Do the pediatricians know that the sugar in infant formula is likely genetically engineered as well, and if so, would have been sprayed with Roundup which is strongly linked to Birth Defects?

If the formula is milk-based, is the pediatrician asking whether the formula is produced in China? That milk is shipped over as milk solids and was contaminated with melamine which the FDA didn't ban but simply set a standard that protected the interests of the international formula companies?

Tumors_Rats1.jpg

When we see photographs of rats grossly deformed by massive tumors after eating genetically engineered corn laced with Roundup, it's not good news for Monsanto.

People understand instantly in looking at those pathetic rats that organic food is not a niche market or a expensive luxury, but a life or death issue, because the rats were fed corn that is part of the American diet.

All the studies that were required but bypassed before GMOs were unleashed into the food chain seem compressed into this one devastating study by CRIIGEN.

The Monsanto lies are exposed. People must avoid GMOs at all costs and eat organic food if they are to survive.

But Monsanto has been assiduously preparing for this day of public realization, corrupting the FDA (Monsanto VP Michael Taylor is charge of "food safety" and ensuring it through armed raids against organic farmers, organic coops, and mothers' organic buying clubs!), the USDA (which has funded development of a corn to sterilize humans), the EPA (which is going after hay on an inland ranch as a pollutant under the Clean Water Act, while ignoring serious oil spills into major rivers), and any other agencies standing in the way of getting its death-causing products released as quickly as possible into the environment.

New information has emerged concerning the Great Swine Flu Hoax of 2009 and the mass vaccination hysteria that accompanied it. As it turns out, the seasonal influenza vaccine that was pushed on everyone as an added preventive measure against H1N1 appears to have been responsible for actually inducing more cases of H1N1 infection, this according to shocking new data procured by an influenza expert at Canada's B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

Dr. Danuta Skowronski from the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently observed as part of a comprehensive analysis that individuals who received an annual flu shot during the 2008-09 winter season had a disproportionately higher risk of developing H1N1 infection than individuals who were not vaccinated. Confirming earlier suspicions, Dr. Skowronski and her colleagues observed after recreating the phenomenon in a group of ferrets that the annual flu shot from that year was definitively linked to higher rates of H1N1 infection.

If we explore the history of Monsanto, we see much more than the largest producer of herbicides and genetically modified (GM) seeds in the world. We see outright deception, lies, fraud, and a full awareness of the catastrophic damage they have willfully inflicted on human beings. A recent widely publicized study on GM corn fed rats has gone viral, however there are no conclusions in this study that Monsanto (despite denying it) was not already aware of. They've known the cancer causing effects of GM seeds all along, and simply ignored the truth so they could further poison mass populations with their products.

For over hundred years, Monsanto has evolved from primarily an industrial chemical concern into a pure agricultural products company. Although they are best known today for their agricultural biotechnology GMO products, the company has a long and dirty history of polluting the world with some of the most toxic compounds known to humankind.

Founded by Missouri pharmacist John Francis Queeny in 1901, Monsanto is literally everywhere. Just about every non-organic food product available to consumers has some sort of connection with Monsanto.

Monsanto's deadly legacy includes the production of Agent Orange, DDT, PCBs, and dioxin. Now massive aerial spraying of Roundup in Colombia is being used by the US and the Colombian government as a counter-insurgency tactic, contaminating food crops and poisoning villagers.

With Monsanto's patented genes being inserted into roughly 95 percent of all soybeans and 80 percent of all corn grown in the U.S., the company also is using its wide reach to control the ability of new biotech firms to get wide distribution for their products

GMO crops and their associated herbicides can harm birds, insects, amphibians, marine ecosystems, and soil organisms. They reduce bio-diversity, pollute water resources, and are unsustainable. For example, GMO crops are eliminating habitat for monarch butterflies, whose populations are down 50% in the US. Roundup herbicide has been shown to cause birth defects in amphibians, embryonic deaths and endocrine disruptions, and organ damage in animals even at very low doses. GMO canola has been found growing wild in North Dakota and California, threatening to pass on its herbicide tolerant genes on to weeds.

Recently, a study by the International Journal of Biological Sciences revealed that Monsanto's Mon 863, Mon 810, and Roundup herbicide-absorbing NK 603 in corn caused kidney and liver damage in laboratory rats. Scientists also discovered damage to the heart, spleen, adrenal glands and even the blood of rats that consumed the mutant corn. A "state of hepatorenal toxicity" the study concluded.
First ever and most comprehensive study of the effects of genetically modified foods on mammalian health, researchers have linked organ damage with consumption of Monsanto's GM maize.

World Health Organization (WHO) officials are on alert after two confirmed cases and one suspected case of a new virus from the same family as SARS appeared in Saudi Arabia last week. Doctors are watching for any sign the disease may spread.

The cases involve a coronavirus (named for the corona, or halo, visible around the virus under a microscope) that causes severe pneumonia and kidney failure in patients. One of the confirmed cases is a 49 year-old man in intensive care in a London hospital after being evacuated by air-ambulance to Britain from Qatar on September 11.

The other two confirmed cases have already died.

Dr. Ali Mohamed Zaki first revealed that a new coronavirus had been discovered last week in a 60-year-old man at the Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on the ProMED-mail website, a site used to monitor infectious diseases around the globe. In the post, Zaki noted that the coronavirus was similar to those found in bats.

The most famous coronavirus was the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak that killed about 916 and infected 8,422 worldwide. The potential threat of this particular coronavirus is not yet known, but World Health Organization (WHO) officials are monitoring the situation.

Nearly four years ago, the world was facing the first pandemic of the 21st century, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and everyone was scared. For months after a "fatal flu" emerged in November 2002, news of SARS outbreaks and casualties in Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Vietnam dominated local and international headlines.

People knew that you could become infected by simply being exposed to someone with SARS, and once infected you might die in a matter of days. Thousands were quarantined. In the streets of Asian cities, if you just coughed slightly, people would run. But then, a mere nine months later, in July 2003, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that transmission of the virus over.

What happened to SARS and are there lessons to be learned for dealing with other epidemics such as human avian influenza?

SARS infected over 8,000 people worldwide, of which fewer than 800 died - a mortality rate of less than 10 percent, and a far cry from those of other communicable diseases like HIV/AIDS (2.8 million deaths in 2005) and malaria (1-3 million deaths a year).

cattlefeedcookies_235x147.jpg

Just when you thought the news couldn't get any stranger regarding the disturbing state of the agricultural industry, it most certainly has. In an effort to slash costs and increase profits, livestock corporations have now begun feeding their cattle super cheap processed foods like cookies, gummy worms, chocolate, fruit loops and a whole list of candies. Fattening up the cattle thanks to a large percentage of sugar content and no real nutritional value, the disease-riddled cattle end up fetching a larger price for farm owners.

The fruit loops-fed cattle also may end up on your dinner table, harboring even more dangerous additives than even cattle fed a diet of corn. Before accounting for the new diet of cookies and candy, conventionally raised cattle meat contains oftentimes an excessive amount of antibiotics (now admitted to be harming human health internationally), artificial hormones such as Monsanto's cloned growth hormone rBGH, resistant bacteria, genetically modified organisms (from corn) and other contaminants. Now, however, a few new problematic substances have entered the equation.

Cattle on a Diet of MSG, High-Fructose Corn Syrup, and GMOs

It is important to understand that almost all corn in the United States is genetically modified. Therefore, the 'traditional' factory farm diet of corn or grain is certainly not a safe option. It is, however, arguably better than 100% processed junk food that contains not just genetically modified organisms but ingredients like:
  • High-fructose corn syrup
  • MSG
  • Hydrogenated oils
  • Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides
  • Acrylamides
  • Artificial flavorings
  • Artificial colorings
  • Artificial sweeteners (like asapartame)
And many more. Each of these ingredients has of course been linked to a host of negative ailments ranging from cancer to cognitive disorders, however very few know the true dangers of such substances. High fructose corn syrup, for example, has been admitted to contain mercury - an element that is toxic in all forms. It is also important to note that the corn processed into high fructose corn syrup is, for the most part, always genetically modified. Such is also the case with aspartame, made from genetically modified bacteria waste. So now only are these cows being loaded up with processed food chemicals, mercury, and other additives, but they're also still receiving GMOs.

Vitamin B6, naturally present in a variety of foods, is necessary for proper nerve function, protein synthesis, regulating blood sugar, and producing antibodies and hemoglobin. In other words, it's pretty important stuff. But, while many people get their B6 through supplements, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is looking to make things a lot more difficult - by slowly taking all forms of B6 supplements off the market so Big Pharma can make millions off of prescriptions instead.

According to the Alliance for Natural Health (ANH), the FDA has already begun their crusade. They removed Pyridoxamine (a natural form of B6) supplements from the market at the request of BioStratum, a pharmaceutical company.

Why? Because BioStratum thinks it might be nice to use Pyrdoxamine in a prescription drug. They haven't developed the drug, we don't know what it is, and who knows when it will come to fruition, but the FDA honored a request from the big corporation to protect the company's interest.

Now, the FDA is poised to pull another B6 product: P5P.

Reboxetine is a drug I have prescribed. Other drugs had done nothing for my patient, so we wanted to try something new. I'd read the trial data before I wrote the prescription, and found only well-designed, fair tests, with overwhelmingly positive results. Reboxetine was better than a placebo, and as good as any other antidepressant in head-to-head comparisons. It's approved for use by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (the MHRA), which governs all drugs in the UK. Millions of doses are prescribed every year, around the world. Reboxetine was clearly a safe and effective treatment. The patient and I discussed the evidence briefly, and agreed it was the right treatment to try next. I signed a prescription.

But we had both been misled. In October 2010, a group of researchers was finally able to bring together all the data that had ever been collected on reboxetine, both from trials that were published and from those that had never appeared in academic papers. When all this trial data was put together, it produced a shocking picture. Seven trials had been conducted comparing reboxetine against a placebo. Only one, conducted in 254 patients, had a neat, positive result, and that one was published in an academic journal, for doctors and researchers to read. But six more trials were conducted, in almost 10 times as many patients. All of them showed that reboxetine was no better than a dummy sugar pill. None of these trials was published. I had no idea they existed.

It got worse. The trials comparing reboxetine against other drugs showed exactly the same picture: three small studies, 507 patients in total, showed that reboxetine was just as good as any other drug. They were all published. But 1,657 patients' worth of data was left unpublished, and this unpublished data showed that patients on reboxetine did worse than those on other drugs. If all this wasn't bad enough, there was also the side-effects data. The drug looked fine in the trials that appeared in the academic literature; but when we saw the unpublished studies, it turned out that patients were more likely to have side-effects, more likely to drop out of taking the drug and more likely to withdraw from the trial because of side-effects, if they were taking reboxetine rather than one of its competitors.

I did everything a doctor is supposed to do. I read all the papers, I critically appraised them, I understood them, I discussed them with the patient and we made a decision together, based on the evidence. In the published data, reboxetine was a safe and effective drug. In reality, it was no better than a sugar pill and, worse, it does more harm than good. As a doctor, I did something that, on the balance of all the evidence, harmed my patient, simply because unflattering data was left unpublished.

Multiple synaptic contacts between nerve cells facilitate the creation of a new contact, as neuroscientists from the Bernstein Center Freiburg and the Forschungszentrum Jülich report in the latest issue of the journal PLoS Computational Biology. An integral mechanism of memory foundation is the formation of additional contacts between neurons in the brain. However, until now it was not known what conditions lead to the development of such synapses and how they are stabilized once created. By studying mathematical models, the scientists found a simple explanation for how and when synapses form -- or disappear -- in the brain.

The scientists investigated the hypothesis that synapses between nerve cells strengthen if they are active in quick succession. This consolidates memory. The team used theoretical computer models to determine what conditions need to be present for synapses to form -- or disappear. Until now it was not known how it is decided on the level of individual nerve cells whether a connection with another neuron will be formed or not. The problem is that a single cell has no access to information concerning whether a synapse will contribute to the establishment of a particular memory.

Researchers at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) have solved an important piece of one of neuroscience's outstanding puzzles: how progenitor cells in the developing mammalian brain reproduce themselves while also giving birth to neurons that will populate the emerging cerebral cortex, the seat of cognition and executive function in the mature brain.

CSHL Professor Linda Van Aelst, Ph.D., and colleagues set out to solve a particular mystery concerning radial glial cells, or RGCs, which are progenitors of pyramidal neurons, the most common type of excitatory nerve cell in the mature mammalian cortex.

In genetically manipulated mice, Van Aelst's team demonstrated that a protein called DOCK7 plays a central regulatory role in the process that determines how and when an RGC "decides" either to proliferate, i.e., make more progenitor cells like itself, or give rise to cells that will mature, or "differentiate," into pyramidal neurons. The findings are reported in the September 2012 issue of Nature Neuroscience.

DOCK7 was already known to be highly expressed in various parts of the developing rodent brain, including the hippocampus and cortex. It had been shown by Van Aelst and colleagues to control the formation of axons -- wiring that connects neurons.

There may be a link between the cold, callous personality traits associated with psychopaths and sense of smell, according to a new study.

The research, published in the journal Chemosensory Perception, showed that people who scored high on a test of psychopathy also had more problems with being able to tell different smells apart, not to mention identifying smells.

The study included 79 adults who didn't have a criminal background. The researchers conducted a number of experiments to test their ability to smell and tell smells apart, and also had them take a test that measured their levels of psychopathic traits like callousness, manipulation, the urge to commit criminal acts, and leading an erratic lifestyle.

"Our findings provide support for the premise that deficits in the front part of the brain may be a characteristic of non-criminal psychopaths," the researchers, from Macquarie University, said in a statement. "Olfactory measures represent a potentially interesting marker for psychopathic traits, because performance expectancies are unclear in odor tests and may therefore be less susceptible to attempts to fake good or bad responses."

Three separate 'sightings' of yetis have been made in Siberia in recent weeks, say fishermen and an official in Russia. All were in the remote Kemerovo region, where around 30 'abominable snowmen' live, according to the country's leading researcher on the creatures. In one previously undisclosed case last month near Myski village, fishermen in a boat on a river initially mistook distant figures first for bears and then people, said the Siberian Times.

'We shouted to them - do you need help?,' said fisherman Vitaly Vershinin. 'They just rushed away, all in fur, walking on two legs, making their way through the bushes and with two other limbs, straight up the hill.'

He said: "What did we think? It could not be bears, as the bear walks on all-fours, and they ran on two.... so then they were gone.'

On a second sighting on the bank of the Mras-Su River several days later, an unnamed fisherman was quoted saying: 'We saw some tall animals looking like people.'

He added: 'Our binoculars were broken and did not let us see them sharply. We waved at the animals but they did not respond, then quickly ran back into the forest, walking on two legs.

'We realised that they were not in dark clothes but covered by dark fur. They did walk like people.'

It's an iconic theme song of a grand melodic score meant to bring to musical life the story of farm-boy Luke Skywalker's joining with the rebel forces to save Princess Leia and the entire galaxy from the evil grasps of Darth Vader and Death Star.

But the Star Wars theme song as a lullaby?

For 7-month-old Sebastian Leyack of Santa Rosa, Calif., yes, it is. You could say "the force" is with tiny Sebastian, who appears to only have ears for the internationally known score to the famous movie trilogy, something his parents discovered by accident.

"We were driving down to visit my parents and I wasn't in a place where I could stop safely and he was crying and crying," Sebastian's mom, Amy Leyack, said. "We had just left the house and he was fed, had a clean diaper and a nap so there was nothing wrong but he was upset and I couldn't stop.

"I turned on the radio and that [Star Wars] was the first song and he stopped crying," she said. "I changed it to other music and he started crying, so I went back and he stopped."

Leyack couldn't believe that, first, the music had soothed him so quickly and that, second, it was Star War's music that did it.

"His dad is a big Star Wars fan," she said.

Such a fan that Amy and husband Gaston had watched the movies and listened to the music while Sebastian was in utero, and the Star Wars theme happened to be the only song that Leyack had downloaded on her phone.

Beth Feeback had a really good weekend. The North Carolina woman who bought a painting for $9.99 from a Goodwill store sale saw it sell for more than $27,000 at a Sotheby's auction.

"It's a great return on $9.99," Feeback said Sunday night.

The sale price listed on the Sotheby's website, $34,375.00, reflects the final gavel price plus a premium the buyer must pay, she explained. The painting had been expected to sell for between $15,000 and $20,000.

Somewhere in West Tennessee, not far from Graceland, nine women -- or "The 9 Nanas," as they prefer to be called -- gather in the darkness of night. At 4am they begin their daily routine -- a ritual that no one, not even their husbands, knew about for 30 years. They have one mission and one mission only: to create happiness. And it all begins with baked goods.

"One of us starts sifting the flour and another washing the eggs," explained Nana Mary Ellen, the appointed spokesperson for their secret society. "And someone else makes sure the pans are all ready. We switch off, depending on what we feel like doing that day.

"But you make sure to say Nana Pearl is in charge, because she's the oldest!" she added with a wink and a smile.

Over the next three hours, The 9 Nanas (who all consider themselves sisters, despite what some of their birth certificates say) will whip up hundreds of pound cakes, as part of a grand scheme to help those in need. And then, before anyone gets as much as a glimpse of them, they'll disappear back into their daily lives. The only hint that may remain is the heavenly scent of vanilla, lemon and lime, lingering in the air.

Even the UPS driver, who picks up hundreds of packages at a time, has no clue what these women, who range in age from 54 to 72, are doing. He's just happy to get a hug and a bag filled with special treats. What he doesn't know is that he's part of their master plan. A plan that began 35 years ago -- when the "sisters" got together for their weekly card game -- something their husbands referred to as "Broads and Bridge."

"Pearl says it was all her idea," Mary Ellen teased, "but as I remember it, we were sitting around reminiscing about MaMaw and PaPaw and all the different ways they would lend a hand in the community." MaMaw and PaPaw are the grandparents who raised four of the women, Mary Ellen included, when their mother passed away; and they took in Pearl as their own, when her parents needed some help.

"MaMaw Ruth would read in the paper that someone had died," Mary Ellen remembered, "and she'd send off one of her special pound cakes. She didn't have to know the family. She just wanted to put a little smile on their faces. And we started thinking about what we could do to make a difference like that. What if we had a million dollars? How would we spend it?

So the ladies began brainstorming.

"One of the sisters suggested that we should all start doing our own laundry and put the money we saved to good use. I admit, I protested at first. There's just something about laundering that I don't like. But I was outnumbered! So among the nine of us, we'd put aside about $400 a month and our husbands never noticed a thing. Their shirts looked just fine."

And then the women started listening. They'd eavesdrop -- all with good intentions, of course -- at the local beauty shop or when they were picking up groceries. And when they heard about a widow or a single mom who needed a little help, they'd step in and anonymously pay a utility bill or buy some new clothes for the children.

The Big Om
2012-09-21 17:42:00
The Ancient Mayan calendar speaks of 21 December 2012 as the end of times and the beginning of a new cycle of evolution for planet earth, humanity and the cosmos. This prophecy has been hyped through media and Hollywood as an apocalyptic 'end of the world' scenario. However, the Mayan elders say that the ancients were informing the modern world to be ready for a giant transformation for the human race.

December 2012 is being looked upon as the time of a significant spiritual shift in the collective consciousness of the planet into this new Golden Age. That's why 12,000 people will be assembling in Wembley Arena on 12.12.12 to experience The Big Om mass sound healing event - an event with the power at a quantum level to shift the vibration of the planet - which will be live-streamed around the world.

BEVERLY, MA - Imagine you are sitting at a table in a company cafeteria. The door opens, and in march 15 of your fellow employees, single file and in step. They arrange themselves at chairs around a table and sit in unison; each one then places a soda can on the table and opens it in perfect time with the rest. Sounds like a scene from Village of The Damned? Think again!

This is "synchronized breaking", being hailed by corporate executives across the country as "the best thing since sliced bread", developed in Beverly, MA at a tech company called . It was conceived in late 2010 as a management tool to enable supervisors to keep close tabs on their subordinates. It evolved over the following year to incorporate split-second timing and synchronization of actions, all coordinated by a super-precise atomic clock. Synchronized breaking is currently sweeping across the country, and is being lauded as a possible turning-point in the American economy's downward trend.
