This article demonstrates that the actions on the Day of Ashura are a direct reflection of several Qur'anic principles, like obedience and submission only to God, being free, using the Prophet's way of life as a paradigm for all, commanding right and forbidding wrong, resisting against oppression, rejecting a life of humiliation, and establishing justice. Imam Husayn's accomplishments on that day provided a set of guidelines for all future generations to follow.
