UK: Win for press freedom in Miranda judgment
In a landmark judgment, the Court of Appeal has ruled that Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 is incompatible with the right to press freedom, as guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights. David Miranda was detained, with his journalistic material seized, under Schedule 7 in 2013. ARTICLE 19 had intervened as a third party in support of his appeal.

Kenya: Intimidation and harassment of bloggers reaches new high
ARTICLE 19 is alarmed by the recent escalation in arrests and prosecutions of online communicators including bloggers. Section 29 of the Information and Communication Act regarding ‘improper use of a licensed telecommunication gadget’ is being increasingly used by state officials to target those communicating online.

Media Convergence - What does it mean for Freedom of Expression? Part 2
Following last week's blog on the media convergence landscape, Pierre Francois Docquir outlines ARTICLE 19's contribution to the consultation held by the EU Commission on the future of the Directive on Audio-visual Media Services. ARTICLE 19 argued that the extension of a regulatory authority's jurisdiction to audiovisual content published by print media could be conducive to a stricter control of the press, and that this could not be justified under international standards on freedom of expression.
