Nekoze Posture App
Nekoze Posture App — Free, iOS
When it comes to positioning myself in a desk chair, my natural inclination is to sit with my legs up, which isn't exactly an appropriate pose for an office environment (even the BuzzFeed office environment). Plus, it isn't very good for my back. My body would probably love it if I started using a standing desk, but while I'll do many things to keep my mortal form in good shape, standing while I work simply isn't one of them.
Thankfully, there's a middle ground between emulating the bearing of a small primate and standing like a soldier: sitting, but with good posture. To help me with this goal, I downloaded an app: Nekoze. It's free, it's cute, it does the job, and if you have a Mac computer with a camera, it may work for you too. Using iSight (so yes, the green light is on on your computer all the time), Nekoze monitors the way you're sitting: when you start to slouch, a cat pops out of your menu bar and warns you to get back into position. There are many more complicated posture apps, but this simple, quirky one was the best choice for me. Some days (when I'm sitting there with my impeccably perky posture), I feel rather like Tracy Flick (in the best possible way).
