Mexico: Pedro Canché freed

On Thursday, the Second Collegiate Circuit Court of the State of Quintana Roo overturned an earlier judgment – delivered on 24 February– which had declared that the fundamental rights of the Mayan journalist Pedro Canché had been breached, but did not order his release. Cameron urged to speak out against rights abuses ahead of European Games in Baku

ARTICLE 19 has joined with other members of the Sport for Rights Coalition to write to David Cameron, highlighting concerns about the ongoing crackdown on civil society in Azerbaijan. Alternative Magna Carta Festival

Next Saturday, 13 June, ARTICLE 19 is joining together with other Freedom of Expression organisations to host an Alternative Magna Carta event. Marking the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, the event will bring together diverse perspectives, from poets to politicians, social activists to human rights lawyers, to appraise, challenge and debate modern Britain’s attitude to civil liberties. Read more >
