Scotland should create its own digital currency, named 'ScotPound', an independent economic think tank has advised. The New Economics Foundation has produced a report that suggests introducing such a currency would have numerous social and economic benefits.

LedgerX, a bitcoin options startup, has received temporary approval from the US Commodities Futures Trading Commission to act as a swap execution facility. The startup applied for licensure last year and has received backing from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Google Ventures.

Mark Karpeles, the CEO of bitcoin exchange Mt Gox has been charged with embezzlement, according to reports. The news follows on from Karpeles re-arrest in Tokyo at the end of August amid allegations that he had embezzled ¥321m ($2.6m) of Mt Gox customer funds to fund his own personal projects.
