Global bitcoin marketplace LocalBitcoins is operating again following over six hours of downtime it attributed to a "hardware failure". The company announced the outage at 20:22 UTC yesterday. By 03:02 it said the service was "back up and running".

The UK government is exploring the use of blockchain technology in improving the transparency and accuracy of its record keeping. In a post on the blog of the Government Digital Service, technical architect Paul Downey explained his team has been examining how existing registers could be improved.

More than 30 bitcoin developers and contributors have signed an open letter to the community on how they are seeking to reach technical consensus on network scalability. Though not mentioned, the letter's wording suggests it is a response to attempts to fork the network to resolve the ongoing block size debate.
