Australia's Asylum Policies Under Scrutiny Following Boat Tragedy
A tragic boat accident off a remote Australian island this week, which only 42 of some 100 asylum-seeking passengers survived, has rekindled outrage over the Australian government's approach to refugees. The country's prime minister has said that rescue efforts have finished, and the focus has now turned to providing comfort for the tragedy's survivors and community of refugees on Christmas Island, while advocacy groups are calling for a reevaluation of Australia's immigration process.
