Use of Force by US Cannot Solve Problems - Russia
MOSCOW; Resolving world problems by force as the US is trying to do does not work, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday in an opening speech to the 20th session of the Foreign and Defense Policy Council.
"The line of conducting democracy by iron and blood does not work," Lavrov said. This is clear in the case of Iraq and other states, he added.
"No-one knows in the end what will happen in the Middle East," including Syria, he said.
Lavrov recalled the fate of previous attempts to use force by circumventing the UN Security Council, and expressed anxiety that some states were trying to make the "Libyan model a precedent."
Speaking about the future world order, Lavrov said "in future, not all rules which are used in world politics now, will exist in future."
"We can expect that in the next 20 years, the world order will be more complex," he added.

Exciting of confrontation sentiments is untenable way - Lavrov
MOSCOW: The strengthening of Russia's defence capabilities in the troubled world is far from being a question of status, but a vital necessity, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday, speaking at the Assembly of the Foreign and Defence Policy Council.
The exciting of confrontational sentiments in the Euro-Atlantic region is a politically untenable way, a deadlock, Lavrov stressed. "This is absolutely not our choice."
The strengthening of Russia's defence capabilities "in the troubled world around us is not a question of status, but a vital necessity, since only in this way can the country's security be reliably guaranteed", the minister noted.
At present, many talk about the factor of force in international relations. Accumulation of elements of tension is a cause of concern, and tension is accumulating, he noted. It is confirmed by the higher intensity of international conflicts, Lavrov said.
"We know what consequences foreign armed interference not sanctioned by the U.N. Security Council in affairs of other states leads to," the minister added.

Georgian-American consultations on defense held in Tbilisi
N. Kirtzkhalia
Tbilisi: Bilateral Georgian-American consultations on defense were held in the Tbilisi Marriott hotel on Friday. The main themes of the consultations were the issues of deepening military cooperation, Georgia's participation in the ISAF mission and a program for the rehabilitation of wounded Georgian military during the missions.
"During the meeting, we discussed the targets and the progress achieved jointly. The U.S. supports Georgia in the planned reforms in the defense sector. We are also working together to prepare Georgian troops for service in Afghanistan," Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Delegation Evelyn Farkas said after the completion of consultations.
First Deputy Defence Minister Levan Dolidze, Acting Chief of the Joint Staff Vakhtang Kapanadze and other senior officials participated in the event from the Georgian side.
At the conference, the parties discussed the issues of practical implementation of U.S. help to Georgia in the military field, which primarily provides for the strengthening of the capacity of the air defense and exercises in engineering and military.
"Definitely it was noted that there has been significant progress in the area of bilateral Georgian-American military cooperation," Dolidze said.
Head of the U.S. delegation Evelyn Farkas visited the National Academy of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia in the framework of the visit.

Russian Diplomat on Georgia's NATO Integration
Tbilisi: Russia's ambassador to NATO Alexander Grushko said on November 30 that Georgia’s NATO integration would have serious consequences on Russia’s relations with the Alliance, as well as on security in Europe.
“As far as Georgia is concerned, I am sure that NATO understands the seriousness of consequences that any step towards further engagement of Georgia with the Alliance will have for the Russian-NATO relations and European security. It is impossible that they do not understand it,” Grushko told a group of Russian journalists in Brussels, according to RIA Novosti news agency.
“It would be absolutely unrealistic for NATO to expect that the policy of Georgia’s rapprochement with the Alliance might somehow affect our relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia as well as on our commitments to protect them,” said Grushko, who was Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister before becoming ambassador to NATO last month.

The Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF), a member of Soros' network of Open Society Foundations, said that Soros was in Georgia for a private visit to familiarize with the work of the OSGF.
“With the purpose of familiarizing [himself] with the new political reality [in Georgia after the October parliamentary elections], it is not ruled out that George Soros will also meet political leaders,” the OSGF said in a statement prior to Soros’ visit on November 28.
In the same statement OSGF had to respond to recent rumors in some of the Georgian press that Soros was planning to fund President Saakashvili’s UNM party.
