For years now in the U.S., and in European countries such as the UKGermanyThe Netherlands, and France, Muslims have experienced difficulty when it comes to finding a job, due to the ever-increasing Islamophobia. And that's not all, a 2006 report by the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia, entitled "Muslims in the European Union: Discrimination and Islamophobia", concludes:
  • Regardless of their ethnic background and/or approach to religion, many European Muslims are facing discrimination in employment, education and housing.
  • Discrimination against Muslims can be attributed to Islamophobic attitudes as well as to racist and xenophobic resentment, as these elements are often intertwined. Hostility against Muslims must therefore be seen in the more general context of xenophobia and racism towards migrants and minorities.
  • It is evident that Muslims are experiencing Islamophobic acts, ranging from verbal threats through to physical attacks, even though data on religiously aggravated incidents is collected on a limited scale.
  • The available data on victims of discrimination show that European Muslims are often disproportionately represented in areas with poorer housing conditions, while their educational achievement falls below average and their unemployment rates are higher than average. Muslims are often employed in jobs that require lower qualifications. As a group they are over-represented in low-paying sectors of the economy.
  • Many European Muslims, particularly young people, face barriers to their social advancement. This could give rise to a feeling of hopelessness and social exclusion.
  • Racism, discrimination and social marginalisation are serious threats to integration and community cohesion.

Now that anti-Islamic sentiments have risen by 110% in France, and 'anti-Islamization' demos have been held in several countries, chances are high that the disadvantageous position Muslims alreadywere in prior to the Paris attack will only get worse. Needless to say, this is far from fair, considering that the Muslim majority had nothing to do with the recent attack in Paris, just as they didn't have anything to do with the 9/11 attacks in the U.S. Yet they've become the very target of hatred, and it affects their daily lives quite significantly.

Ten people have died in a fighter jet crash at an air base in central Spain, the defence ministry says. The Greek F-16 jet "lost power" during take-off, crashing into other planes and exploding at Los Llanos airbase in Albacete, the ministry said.

One of the pilots performed a wrong manoeuvre during take-off, according to local media. Both pilots were killed. One French person was among those killed and five others were injured, France's defence ministry confirmed. In a statement (in French), the ministry said French jets were stationed at the base.

Late on Monday evening, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said eight French personnel and two Greeks had been killed. Contacted by BBC News, the French air force said it could neither confirm nor deny the information given by Mr Rajoy for the time being. Reports suggest that many of the injured are Italians while details of the other fatalities have not been given. Personnel from the US, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and the UK are said to be stationed at the base.
Comment: Coming immediately after the victory of the anti-austerity anti-NATO Syriza party in Greek elections yesterday, this accident appears somewhat symbolic.

In the morning of January 24 the Eastern outskirts of Mariupol were attacked near the UAF checkpoint, writes Internet news resource Donetsk Republic News. But junta fighters were not injured, because according to local residents, they left the fortification a few hours before the strike.

"In a huge number of homes there is broken glass, the situation is very serious. There is no water and electricity, it was disabled half an hour or an hour before the fire, I have not noticed the time. They have been preparing for this situation, knew about it," - said a resident of Mariupol. He stressed that the situation is similar to a false flag.
Lifenews interviews Mariupol resident
"They wanted to create a huge reaction to set the population against our militia. We thought at first that it was a mistake, but then I realized that it was intentional. Past our windows was driving a new rotation of these banderites... They immediately turned around and pulled back", - says a local resident, reports Lifenews.
Comment: Local residents are reporting that the Grad volley was fired from the north and/or west, NOT the east/northeast, as the OSCE concluded after a hasty 'investigation'. Other sources are saying there were actually 3 strikes, from different directions. If that's the case, the NAF could not be responsible.

Here's South Front's latest update on the situation:

One sometimes wonders if one has woken up in a psychedelic 'Alice in Wonderland' type world with a mad queen shouting "Off with the heads" at anyone daring to criticise her.

Alice_in_Wonderland_Alice_The_.jpg

Just two weeks after the Paris shooting, where all the Western heads of states gathered to march for freedom of speech and formed a coalition to fight the Islamic State (IS), the ruler of Saudi Arabia, King Abdullah Al Saud died at the age of 90. Considering that he really has ruled Saudi Arabia for 20 years since the stroke of his half-brother, and given the things that I will outline shortly, one would think that the Western mass media would be overjoyed and jubilant at this fact. I know you would think those words jubilant and overjoyed are a little over the top, but Western media and leaders actually quite enjoy the killing of its foes and make no disguise of it. The lynching of Colonel Gaddafi by Western sponsored goons in Libya was greeted by Hillary Clinton with the upbeat words: "We came, we saw, he died:"

But no, Western media lamented the death of this *great leader and reformist" as they wrote. TheBritish queen was saddened by his death, the flag at Whitehall in Britain was on half mast and as I write the leaders from all over the world, including Obama, Cameron, Hollande, the prince of Wales, the crown prince of Denmark and numerous others are flocking to Saudi Arabia to pay their last respect. John Kerry tweeted that Abdullah was "a man of wisdom and vision". Joan Smith in a anexcellent opinion piece in the Independent wrote in response to the drivel coming from head of the IMF Christine Lagarde:
So what the hell was the IMF boss, Christine Lagarde, thinking about when she described Abdullah as a "strong advocate of women"? She did add "in a very discreet way".
Yes, you can say that again!

CNN wrote in their piece on his death:
Most Saudis will remember him fondly.
One can rightfully ask, what basis they have for making such a statement.

Okay, now lets get back to reality and give the sickbags a rest.

European politics has been plunged into a volatile new era following a historic victory in Greece's general election by far-left radicals committed to ending years of austerity.

More than five years into the euro crisis that started in Greece in October 2009 and raised questions about the single currency's survival, Greek voters roundly rejected the savage spending cuts and tax rises imposed by Europe which reduced the country to penury.

The euro briefly slumped to an 11-year low in Asian trading on Monday morning, while the Greek stock market slumped 5% in volatile early trading.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Moscow might extend the period of sojourn in Russian territory for Ukrainians of conscription age who can be drafted into the Ukrainian army.

"Many people, by the way, do not want to be mobilized. They are trying to move into Russia and lie low for some time. And they are absolutely right because they are simply being sent under bullets like cannon fodder," Putin said at a meeting with the students of the "Gornyi" University of Mineral Resources.

At the same time, the president said Ukrainian nationals can not stay in Russia longer than for a period established by the law.
Comment: It looks like the Russians care more for Ukrainian soldiers than Kiev. Donetsk treats wounded Ukrainian soldiers, feeds them, doesn't torture them, and sends them home to their mothers. Kiev lies to them, sends them to die in suicide missions, lies about their deaths, leaves their bodies to rot, conscripts young men, poorly trains them, and sends them to die on their first engagement. Now Russia is considering allowing them to stay in Russia to avoid such a fate. See how the prime minister of Donetsk treats his POWs, and the warnings he gives one mother. He's right.

In an enormous corporate bloodletting, IBM is preparing to lay off about a quarter of its employees, following a report revealing a continued decline in revenue.

Over 110,000 employees from around the world, or roughly 26 percent of its total roster, will be laid off by the end of February, in an IBM company reorganization code-named "Project Chrome,"Forbes magazine reported Monday.

According to the magazine, IBM's US offices will be hit the hardest, but other locations in its global operations will also be affected by the cuts.
Comment: See, Obama says the economy is doing great!

IBM has rejected the layoff claim:
"IBM does not comment on rumors, even ridiculous or baseless ones," a spokesman said.

"If anyone had checked information readily available from our public earnings statements, or had simply asked us, they would know that IBM has already announced the company has just taken a $600 million charge for workforce rebalancing. This equates to several thousand people, a small fraction of what's been reported."

The EU has threatened to impose more sanctions on Russia following its new offensive in south-east Ukraine.

EU foreign relations chief Federica Mogherini on Saturday (24 January) said "further escalation ... would inevitably lead to a further grave deterioration of relations".

Her communique spoke of "offensives by Russia-backed separatists", adding, "I call therefore openly upon Russia to use its considerable influence over separatist leaders and to stop any form of military, political, or financial support".

Comment: US/NATA/EU openly supports the Ukraine coup and military as if it was okay but accuses Russia of doing the same without any evidence.

The same day EU Council president Donald Tusk tweeted: "Once again, appeasement encourages the aggressor to greater acts of violence. Time to step up our policy based on cold facts, not illusions".

Comment: Tusk is right that he should be basing decisions on "cold facts" but he is not. He is basing decisions on "Illusions".

The Ukrainian government has introduced the state of emergency in the war-torn south-eastern Donetsk and Lugansk Regions, and put all other territories on high alert, Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk announced.

"In accordance with the Ukrainian Code of Civil Protection, the Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a decision to recognize an emergency situation at a state level. The Ukrainian government has decided to impose the state of emergency in the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions," Yatsenyuk is cited as saying by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the PM, the move is aimed at providing the most efficient coordination of all government agencies in order to ensure civil protection and the safety of the population.

The statement was made after the field meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, which took place at the headquarters of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kiev on Monday.

Yatsenyuk also said that the state of emergency in the southeast will be overseen by a special government commission.

It will be headed by the PM himself, with Deputy-PM Gennady Zubko and Emergencies Minister Sergey Bochkovsky being his deputies.

Officials in the German town of Schwerte have made plans to place some 20 refugees in barracks which were once part of the infamous Buchenwald concentration camp. The 'pragmatic solution' to provide shelter has sparked criticism, German media reported.

Hundreds of non-Germans were forced to live in the town of Schwerte in the country's west 70 years ago, when it was an outpost to one of the largest Nazi concentrations camps, Buchenwald.

Now, 21 refugees who have come to Germany seeking new homes have been offered to live in what is left of the former camp: the barracks once occupied by SS guards.

Local authorities say the plan is a pragmatic solution to help accommodate at least some of the large influx of refugees, who have come to the country after fleeing war-torn states such as Syria and Iraq. The first move-in is expected this week, Die Welt reported.

With the country struggling to accommodate hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers, some local governments are placing refugees not only in hotels and converted school buildings, but also in makeshift villages of freight containers.

With The Greek election in full motion, and first results perhaps 12 hours away, It would seem useful, no matter how the Greeks vote, to lay to rest a few misconceptions, and to expose a few 'conceptions' that have - largely - remained buried to date.

The first misconception is that the Greeks borrowed like crazy and therefore deserve to be thrown into a pit of suffering and misery. It is simply nonsense, a mere political narrative. Besides, most of what was borrowed went to the utterly corrupt 'oligarch system', not to the people in the street. Something the EU was certainly aware of when it accepted Greece as a member. But corrupt regimes can be of great use.

A few days back, in Bunch Of Criminals!, I made the point that the EU, and its members, have no right to do to a fellow member country what they did to Greece - and want to continue doing.

SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras said this week that he will not negotiate with the Troika, but directly with EU officials. And there is a very solid reason for that. In today's Observer, Helena Smith interviews Greek sociologist Constantine Tsoukalas, who understands what has been happening to his country, and - rightfully - frames it in terms of Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine.

What has happened to Greece is what Klein describes was done to South America and - later - Eastern Europe. Disaster capitalism. Bringing entire countries to their knees by enforcing predatory economic policies, and then using the ensuing chaos and smouldering ruins to take full control over their political, economic and social systems. Helena Smith:

Naomi Klein tells EnetEnglish how her bestseller The Shock Doctrine relates to Greece

316785_original1_e2xig.jpg

According to bestselling author Naomi Klein, the systemic use of shock and fear by the power elites to undermine vulnerable communities is very much evident in post-bailout Greece. From the rise of racism to the sell-off of the country's oil and natural gas resources - much of what will shape Greece's immediate future are, she argues, predictable consequences of the politics of austerity.

Naomi Klein is the author of controversial New York Times bestseller The Shock Doctrine, which has been referred to as "the master narrative of our time". The book argues that business interests and powerful nations exploit shocks in the form of natural disasters, economic problems, or political turmoil, as an opportunity to aggressively restructure vulnerable countries' economies. She posits that because ultra-capitalistic policies are harmful to the majority of citizens, they cannot be implemented without a shock, ranging from media-hyped anxiety to police torture, that squashes popular resistance. In this exclusive interview, Klein explains to EnetEnglish how she believes the Shock Doctrine relates to Greece today.

How do events in Greece relate to your arguments in The Shock Doctrine?

To me it is a classic example of the things I wrote about. It's heartbreaking to see the same tricks and the same tactics being used so brutally. And there's been enormous resistance in Greece. It's particularly distressing to see the violent repression of the social movements that were resisting austerity. And it's just been going on for so long now. People get worn down.

What I've been following recently is the sell-off of natural resources for mining and drilling. That's the next frontier of how this is going to play out - the scramble for oil and gas in the Aegean. And it's going to affect Cyprus as well. This is a whole other level of using austerity and debt to force countries to sell off their mining and drilling rights for fire sale prices.

When you add the climate crisis on top of that it is particularly culpable that you have an economic crisis being used as leverage to extract more fossil fuels, especially because Greece itself very climate vulnerable. And I think its possible that, as the scramble for oil and gas heats up, there will be more resistance because it's a huge threat to Greece's economy

The Syrian Arab Army is reportedly close to completely encircling militants that have occupied the northern city of Aleppo since they invaded it from NATO territory in 2012. Once the encirclement is complete, analysts believe the the city will be finally liberated, in a process similar to the retaking of Homs further south.

The desperation of militants facing this final phase in the Battle for Aleppo is indicated by their Western sponsors' attempts to broker a ceasefire and arrange "aid" to reach them. Similar attempts were made in vain during the closing phases in the Battle for Homs in mid-2014 - with the city of Homs having been an epicenter of terrorist activity beginning in 2011, and now under the control of the Syrian government. Small pockets of militants have been isolated within Homs, allowing order to be restored across the majority of the city and the surrounding region.

As the Syrian government systematically regains control of a nation up-ended by Western-backed terrorists flooding the country accompanied by a seemingly inexhaustible torrent of cash, weapons, and equipment, the desperation of these Western interests has visibly increased.

The Guardian, chief among the many propagandists distorting the conflict since it began in 2011, is now attempting to form a narrative extorting global security by claiming only by NATO establishing a no-fly-zone over Aleppo and repelling Syrian government forces, can "moderate rebels" hold on to the city and repel lingering "Islamic State" (ISIS) forces.

I bring it to you because it succinctly lays out the situation as I've been able to piece it together from multiple Russian- and Ukrainian-language sources, and because you are unlikely to come across anything this truthful from cough Western media cough.
Comment: It looks like Kiev's fears have come true. Zakharchenko has announced an offensive on Ukrainian-occupied Mariupol:
I want to say the following: Today began an offensive on Mariupol [the crowd cheers], God willing in a couple of days Debaltsevo cauldron will be closed. And it will be the best answer to honor the memory of the dead. Because we will pay back everyone, we will pay those who pulled the trigger or pushed the button which launched the missiles that killed our countrymen here. Those who shot people in Gorlovka, Makeevka, Yenakievo, Shakhtersk, Zhdanovka, Kirovka. Will pay back for each of our murdered child, and each old man innocently killed here.
Now, the DPR and LPR armies have joined up and successfully encircled Ukrainian troops in Debaltsevo: that's 7,500 Ukrainian troops trapped.

This may turn out to be a critical day in the evolution of the Ukrainian conflict.

1. The Russian Security Council met today. We do not (obviously) have a full account but Putin's website has provided some details.

Strikingly, Putin referred to the junta as "official Kiev" and not "the Ukrainian government" or "the Ukrainian side". He also referred to the two east Ukrainian republics as "the Donetsk People's Republic" and "the Lugansk People's Republic".

This is the closest Putin has yet come to since Poroshenko's election in implying that the junta is not the legitimate authority in the Donbass and that the two NAF republics are.

Ukrainians are starting to realize that the war in the East is pointless. Their real enemies are in Kiev

Kiev authorities have announced that the next wave of mass mobilization will begin on January 28. But Ukrainians seem less than enthusiastic. From TASS:
Experts said it would not be easy for the authorities to carry out mobilization, as the Ukrainian population realizes that Kiev's military operation in the east has no sense.

A Ukrainian analyst and the founder of the Research and Branding Group company, Yevgeny Kopatko, said more and more statements were heard in the Ukrainian society about readiness to sit in prison, but not to go to fight. In the situation, the decision on mobilization will be another test for the Ukrainian authorities, he said.

Mobilization will be carried out in Ukraine in three stages and will last from January to August. During the year, the Ukrainian armed forces plan to mobilize 200,000 citizens and also draft 40,000 young people for military service.
Comment: It is somewhat heartening to see people waking up to the fact that this war, like most others, is being fought only for the benefit of the ruling class, at the behest of the US and NATO. If more people could see through their government's lies and refuse to fight, perhaps a window of opportunity for real change might open.

There seems to be no stopping of fake bomb threats directed at US airlines: two passenger jets landing in Seattle, Washington were evacuated and searched for explosives, while another flight was diverted to Dallas, Texas for similar safety procedures.

A JetBlue flight from Long Beach, California, and a regional SkyWest jet from Phoenix were both isolated and searched for explosives by security teams with dogs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Sunday. Passengers of JetBlue flight 1006 reportedly had to exit the plane, which had been sent to a far end of the airfield, using portable stairs, while their luggage was examined by detection dogs. The evacuation lasted for about 45 minutes.

A lawsuit filed on Thursday against Corrections Corporation of America, the largest private prison management company in the US, alleges that a visitor at a South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton, Tennessee, was forced to expose her genitalia to prison guards to prove that she was menstruating after she attempted to bring a sanitary napkin into a visit.

On April 20, 2014, the plaintiff was making her way through a second security screening point when guard spotted the feminine hygiene product partially exposed in her pocket. The woman was told she would have to get a "CCA-approved" pad instead. An annoying, but not terribly unreasonable requirement.

At this point, however, the male guard, along with another male guard standing beside him, told her, "But I'll have to make sure you are - I'll have to make sure you are actually - "

The male guards called over a female guard at the point, who upon arrival, asked what was going on. Jane Doe responded that she was on her period, to which the female guard sarcastically responded with "oh, great," before walking into a restroom.

According to the lawsuit, once inside the restroom, the plaintiff asked the guards what they wanted her to do, to which another female guard responded "show me."

The female guard stood infront of Jane Doe at this point, as the first female guard stood by the bathroom door and the two male guards waited outside the door.

The plaintiff then asked again, what the guard wanted to do, to which the guard responded with, "What do you think? Show me!"

Jane Doe then exposed her pelvic area and the guard squatted down so she was eye level with the woman's vaginal area. Once the guard was satisfied that the woman was in fact on her period she was finally permitted to exit the bathroom and go have her visit.

A police officer who admitted to kicking and beating the mother of a sick child has just been cleared. The woman suffered over 40 injuries, but Officer Warren Luke, 38, has been cleared of causing her actual bodily harm.

Luke, a Metropolitan police officer in the United Kingdom, said that he had the right to attack the woman because hospital staff told him she would not leave the lobby when asked. Thursday, a jury in the Wood Green crown court cleared Officer Luke of committing any crime whatsoever.

Comment: So not leaving the hospital lobby is grounds for brutal assault by the police? In what kind of world does that make any sense?

The mother has not been named for legal reasons. What we do know was that she had been caring for her seven-year-old daughter. The young girl suffers from cerebral palsy, and was taken to the hospital for an incident related to this, back in December of 2013. The hospital had told the mother that she had to leave the hospital and an argument ensued. Officer Luke was one of four officers who came to "resolve" the incident, but he was the only one who chose to use violence to do so.

Australia has witnessed the largest number of butterflies in 40 years with a combination of rain and heat providing perfect breeding conditions for the insects, an expert has said.

According to Queensland Museum's director of entomology, Christine Lambkin, the combination of rain and heat has provided perfect breeding conditions for the insects which can been seen fluttering through the skies.

"We have had a long extended dry period that has been broken by good rains at the right time of the year. So we have got the warmth as well as the rain and that is what has caused the adults to break the aestivation (insect hibernation) and emerge in numbers.

"Some of them will be trying to mate and lay eggs so that the caterpillars are going to come up on that flush new growth from the rain," Lambkin said.

Nature experts have discovered a remarkable submerged forest thousands of years old under the sea close to the Norfolk coast.

The trees were part of an area known as 'Doggerland' which formed part of a much bigger area before it was flooded by the North Sea.It was once so vast that hunter-gatherers who lived in the vicinity could have walked to Germany across its land mass.

The underwater forest was discovered by Dawn Watson and Rob Spray from Sea Search on a diving trip to study marine life. The prehistoric forest lay undiscovered until it was exposed by the extreme storms along the east of England coast in December 2013.

cryseism_boom_frost_quake_si.jpg

Cold booms? Frost quakes? A winter-time meteorological phenomenon has scientists debating whether blasts heard across North America are, indeed, cryoseisms. Most agree that the loud, inexplicable booms are associated with cold, rainy conditions.

These ice booms have rattled houses in Georgia, caused the earth to shake in Montreal, and led law enforcement from several Oklahoma counties on an unfruitful search to locate the ruckus.

"It was this very loud boom that happened all of a sudden," Marjorie in Idaho, who asked that her last name be withheld, told RT. "My son and I went to look to see where it came from. It sounded like a door slamming very hard or something big falling down on the patio. But we couldn't find anything. We watched the news later to see if anyone knew what it was, but no one did."

"It was so loud the house shook. My kids ran in yelling, 'what was that mommy?'" Tracy Walker, of Kennesaw County, Georgia, told WAGA.

Residents in these areas thought the booms could be fireworks, gun shots, or blown transformers. But meteorologists have offered a less threatening, more fascinating explanation.
Comment: These unexplained loud booms have been increasingly reported all over the world. Mainstream science keeps trying to keep the lid on the phenomenon by explaining away such occurrences as
natural, thus nothing to worry about. However, Sott.net has covered many similar stories of unexplained booms and is hypothesizing that they may be the result of unseen meteors exploding upon entry into the atmosphere.

It's no secret that we are living in a time where chronic disease continues to rise at an exponential rate, especially within the past couple of decades. New evidence continues to mount suggesting that Genetically Modified Organisms (more specifically GM food) might have played, and do play a key role in those statistics.

A new study recently published in the Journal of Organic Systems last September examined US government databases, researchers searched for GE (Genetically Engineered) crop data, glyphosate application data, and disease epidemiological data while performing a "correlation analysis" on a total of 22 different diseases.

The CDC's own research has found that the long denied vaccine-SIDS link is real.

If you believe the official pronouncements of top governmental health agencies like the CDC and FDA, all the vaccines in the present day schedule are a priori safe and effective.

Not only are you told that they can't harm you, but that not taking them can kill you.

Parents are under even more pressure. They are told that refraining from vaccinating their infants or children will greatly increase their risk of dying or being disabled. Worse, they are increasingly labeled as 'crazy' and 'irresponsible' anti-vaccine zealots who are putting the lives of others in danger.

But what happens when the actual evidence from the scientific and clinical literature produced by these very agencies contradicts their own vaccine policies?

This is exactly what has happened with the publication of a new study in the Journal of Pediatricstitled ,"Adverse Events following Haemophilus influenzae Type b Vaccines in the Vaccine Adverse Event ReportingSystem, 1990-2013," wherein CDC and FDA researchers identify 749 deaths linked to the administration of the Hib vaccine, 51% of which were sudden infant death linked to the administration of Hib vaccine.

10. Both use made up names. Stalin's family name was Jugashvilli, Nuland's ancestor's name was Nudelman. The ancestors of both Nuland and Stalin came from the Russian empire, which probably gave them both the idea that they have a special knowledge of how to handle Russia.

9. Nuland's right hand man happens to be her husband, Robert Kagan. Stalin's right hand man was a fellow communist, named Lazar Kagan(ovich). Kagan co-authored "Project for a New American Century" and he obviously wants to realized his vision for Ukraine by implementing what might be called, "amerikanizatsiia," that is, the process of bringing in the officials from US and other countries to run Ukraine along the American lines. In his turn, Kaganovich was the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian SSR from 1925-1928 and was expected to usher in "New Soviet Century" through the politics of "ukrainizatsiya": creating a new ruling Soviet elite for Ukraine, the elite brought in primarily from other places.
