Australian researchers have stored quantum data into a solid crystal of europium.
Scientists have developed a prototype quantum “hard drive” with the capability of storing data for up to an unprecedented six hours.
The record storage time was achieved by researchers at the Australian National University (ANU).
“We believe it will soon be possible to distribute quantum information between any two points on the globe,” said the study’s lead author Manjin Zhong, of the ANU’s Research School of Physics and Engineering (RSPE).
Information was stored by directly writing the quantum state on the nuclear spin of a substance using laser light. The ANU scientists, assisted by a team from the Otago University, used solid europium crystal atoms for the process.
“Quantum states are very fragile and normally collapse in milliseconds. Our long storage times have the potential to revolutionize the transmission of quantum information,” the lead author added.
The team tested the stored data’s stability by subjecting the crystal to various magnetic fields to see if the fragile quantum information remains unaltered.
“We can now imagine storing entangled light in separate crystals and then transporting them to different parts of the network thousands of kilometers apart. So, we are thinking of our crystals as portable optical hard drives for quantum entanglement,” said Zhong.
Quantum particles, such as photons of light, can be made in a certain way that they become intrinsically linked and are referred to as entangled particles.
Regardless of how far they are separated, interactions with either of these entangled particles affect the other, making it virtually impossible for unauthorized persons to tamper with the process.
“Our storage times are now so long that it means people need to rethink what is the best way to distribute quantum data. Even transporting our crystals at pedestrian speeds we have less loss than laser systems for a given distance,” Zhong said.

Thousands of people participated in an anti-Islam rally in Dresden on Monday, with many wearing black ribbons in solidarity with the victims of last week’s devastating massacre in Paris.
The rally, one in a series of weekly marches that have been taking place since October, was organized by anti-immigration group Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA).
Dresden police do not yet have estimates for Monday night’s rally, according to AP, but say that some 18,000 people turned up for last week’s demonstration. On its Facebook page, PEGIDA organizers say that up to 40,000 supporters came out on Monday.
Counter-protests against PEGIDA have also been held throughout Germany. In most German cities, anti-PEGIDA communist demonstrators have greatly outnumbered PEGIDA supporters due to decades of Allied brainwashing of Germans.
Last week in Berlin, for instance, police report that 4,000 counter-protesters took to the streets, while the anti-Islam group consisted of a mere 400 marchers. In Munich, 20,000 counter-protesters gathered, while only 1,500 PEGIDA protesters turned up.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel came out against the anti-Muslim protesters during a news conference with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Monday, after both participated in a massive march through Paris to honor the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack.
“Former President Wulff said Islam belongs to Germany. That is true. I also hold this opinion,” Merkel said, referring to comments made by former German President Christain Wuff in 2010 that sparked nationwide debate.

Hundreds of homeless people in New Delhi have died due to a extreme cold snap.
Hundreds of people have died in a major cold snap that has struck the Indian capital, New Delhi, as thousands of homeless people struggle to overcome the extreme cold without adequate shelter, Press TV reports.
The development came as northern India has been facing one of its coldest winters in decades, which has claimed lives of nearly 330 homeless folks in New Delhi alone.
Activists say most of the deaths have taken place in northern and central New Delhi while the figure continues to climb due to insufficient night shelters.
“Cold has gone really extreme, and we don’t have ample shelters…. We have been asking the government for shelter way back from September onwards and they’ve delayed putting the shelters. So there is a large number of people who are still without shelters,” said social activist Indu Prakash Singh.
According to surveys conducted by independent organizations in India, nearly 10 people die daily on New Delhi streets.
Many of those who succumb to the freezing cold are young working people like balloon sellers, rickshaw pullers, casual workers, and street vendors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged in his recent election campaign to provide affordable housing for the poor by the year 2022.
Many of the homeless, however, say politicians have always exploited them with false promises.
Over 150,000 homeless are braving the harsh cold on the streets, pavements, and under flyovers in the city, according to reports.

Boko Haram fighters parading on a tank in an unidentified town.
Boko Haram, the extremist Islamic group that wants to enforce Sharia Law across Nigeria, has inflicted mass casualties in northeast Nigeria. Some reports put the number of fatalities as high as 2,000.
Amnesty International, communicating with experts on the ground in Nigeria, has said the assault on the town of Baga could be the deadliest attack by Boko Haram since the extremist group surfaced in 2009.
“The attack on Baga and surrounding towns looks as if it could be Boko Haram’s deadliest act in a catalogue of increasingly heinous attacks carried out by the group,” said Daniel Eyre, Nigeria researcher for Amnesty International.
Amnesty International has quoted some sources that say the town has been razed, with as many as 2,000 people killed. If true, that would mark a “disturbing and bloody escalation of Boko Haram’s ongoing onslaught against the civilian population,” Eyre added.
Yanaye Grema, a 38-year-old fisherman, was part of a citizen’s militia to defend the town but the extremist Islamic group overpowered them.
“People fled into the bush while some shut themselves indoors,” Grema told AFP from the Borno state capital, Maiduguri. “The gunmen pursued fleeing residents into the bush, shooting them dead.”
It wasn’t until Tuesday night that he discovered the scale of the attack.
“For five kilometres (three miles), I kept stepping on dead bodies until I reached Malam Karanti village, which was also deserted and burnt,” he said.
Mike Omeri, Nigerian government spokesman, said the military on Friday was battling the insurgents around Baga, where the fundamentalist Islamic group seized a major military base last week.
“Security forces have responded rapidly, and have deployed significant military assets and conducted airstrikes against militant targets,” Omeri said in a statement, as quoted by AP.
Although officials are still in the process of securing the town and attending to the wounded, early accounts indicate most of the victims were the elderly and children, who were unable to escape the town after the assault began.
“The human carnage perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga was enormous,” Muhammad Abba Gava, a spokesman for poorly armed civilians in a defense group that fights Boko Haram, told The Associated Press.
“No one could attend to the corpses and even the seriously injured ones who may have died by now,” Gava said.
According to the Washington-based Council on Foreign Relations, the 5-year insurgency claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people in 2014 alone. The violence has displaced more than a million Nigerians, while hundreds of thousands have escaped into neighboring Chad and Cameroon.

An absolutely stunning Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) report circulating in the Kremlin today appears to show why all top US officials failed to join their counterparts in Paris yesterday who marched in solidarity against theCharlie Hebdo Massacre as it reveals a top French police commissioner was “suicided” within hours of his attempting to obtain a European Arrest Warrant for President Barack Obama and other as yet unnamed American leaders.
According to this report, French police Commissioner Helric Fredou [Photo top right] was tasked immediately after the 7 January Charlie Hebdo Massacre with the examination of documents contained in a small backpack found in the getaway car used by the killers Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, and which contained the driver’s license/identity card of Saïd.
Also discovered by Police Commissioner Fredou in this small backpack, SVR analyst in this report say, were a number of “cryptic documents” and telephone numbers, one of the most important being a US cell-phone number “directly linked” to former US general and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director David Petraeus. [Photo 2nd right]

Upon Police Commissioner Fredou’s discovery of this “Petraeus-link”, this report further states, SVR signals intelligence data show he contacted Paris prosecutor François Molins and requested that the Cour D’assises (Assize Court) issue an immediate European Arrest Warrant for President Barack Obama and “other” such American officials to be named within 24 hours.
Within 3 hours of Police Commissioner Fredou making this request, however, this report continues, his body was found by his desk in his office with a single gunshot to the head at 0100hr on Thursday 8 January that was quickly ruled a suicide; and Obama regime officials began flooding the US media with reports that former CIA director Petraeus was in danger of being arrested on felony charges relating to classified materials found in his mistresses possession.
Though this SVR report doesn’t explicitly state what evidence Police Commissioner Fredou discovered to make his unprecedented request to have the American President arrested, it does allude to a much larger conspiracy surrounding the Charlie Hebdo Massacre which not only involves Saudi Arabia, but also the CIA.
Most critical to note about the Charlie Hebdo Massacre, this report states, is that it occurred 48 hours after French President François Hollande, on 5 January, stated to the Obama regime that the Western sanctions against Russia must be immediately ended.
Equally important to note, SVR analysts in this report point out, are that French authorities had, also, been warned about an impending attack upon their nation on 4 January when Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud delivered the warning to French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and as we had previously reported on.

Also to be noted is that the SVR in their previous (7 January) report noted that the killers behind the Charlie Hebdo Massacre were terror operatives of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), a fact confirmed on 11 January when a martyrdom video of one of the killers named Amedy Coulibaly was released by ISIS. [Note: this previous report should be read as it provides needed context for this one.]
As France today begins to deploy an additional 10,000 troops throughout their country to (hopefully) forestall further attacks, and the West gears up for a fresh rampage across the war-scarred Middle East in response to this massacre, this report concludes, it should not be forgotten that the goal of Islamic violence is to bring down society’s fist on Europe’s Muslim minority – all the better to sweep them up into the waiting arms of al-Qaeda, the ISIS, or whatever form these fanatics invent.
But to who the real terrorist fanatics are, however, and according to the esteemed antiwar American author Justin Raimondo, one needs look no further than the corridors of Washington D.C., and of which he states:
“My biggest fear is that we’ll all wake up one day to find that the monsters are right here, where they’ve always been. By then it will be too late to leash them and put them in their proper place, which is a zoo.”
