Former federal agent Carl Force IV has been ordered to forfeit hundreds of bitcoins he allegedly obtained illegally while investigating Silk Road to the US government. The forfeited amount includes $13,045 in bitcoin held in a BTC-e account and $65,658.51 held in an E-Trade account.

Five Xapo employees have lost their bid to dismiss a lawsuit brought on by former employer LifeLock. LifeLock has alleged its former employees did not disclose the "nature and extent" of their role in developing technology integral to Xapo, which it alleges was created using its resources.

A bitcoin mining service called Cloudminr.io has collapsed, resulting in the loss of bitcoins and the broadcasting of personal user information. Over the weekend, the main Cloudminr page was altered with an offer to sell a list of passwords, email addresses and usernames for 79,267 individuals.

A report commissioned by secretive consulting group R3CEV and authored by bitcoin developer Peter Todd has raised questions about Ripple's underlying tech. Although it included praise for Ripple Labs, the R3 companion report alerted large financial institutions to "areas of concern" in the company's protocol design.

A financial services research group backed by SWIFT has announced a new blockchain technology grant. The SWIFT Institute is offering €15,000 to research teams that can investigate how bitcoin's underlying distributed ledger technology could impact the existing securities transaction ecosystem.
