“A week later [the child] got a tremendous fever, got very, very sick, now is autistic”. Billionaire presidential contender Donald Trump made a “huge” splash on the GOP debate stage Wednesday in a sparring match with Dr. Ben Carson over whether vaccines cause autism. “There have been numerous studies, and they have not demonstrated that there is any correlation between vaccinations and autism,” Dr. Carson claimed, responding to whether he believed Trump should cease assertions that vaccines cause autism. “He can read about it if he wants to. I think he’s an intelligent man and will make the correct decision after getting the real facts.” The hotel mogul, however, held firm, embracing his previous stance that, from first hand experience, vaccines are distributed at too high a frequency and too young an age, and may contribute to the rise in childhood autism. “I am totally in favor of vaccines. But I want smaller doses over a longer period of time,” Trump rebutted, adding that his own children received vaccines “over a two or three year period of time.” Trump went on to describe a child he knew who grew sick soon after receiving a vaccine. “[W]e’ve had so many instances, people that work for me. Just the other day, two years old, two and a half years old, a child, a beautiful child went to have the vaccine, and came back, and a week later got a tremendous fever, got very, very sick, now is autistic.” Trump’s controversial response echoes one he gave on Fox News in April 2012, in which he also related the story of a child of one of his employees who was damaged after receiving vaccines. “I’ve gotten to be pretty familiar with the subject,” Trump told Fox News’ Fox & Friends. “You know, I have a theory — and it’s a theory that some people believe in — and that’s the vaccinations. We never had anything like this. “This is now an epidemic. It’s way, way up over the past 10 years. It’s way up over the past two years. And, you know, when you take a little baby that weighs like 12 pounds into a doctor’s office and they pump them with many, many simultaneous vaccinations — I’m all for vaccinations, but I think when you add all of these vaccinations together and then two months later the baby is so different then lots of different things have happened. I really — I’ve known cases.” The vaccine autism link recently came under federal scrutiny when Florida US Congressman Bill Posey noted before a House committee the testimony of Center for Disease Control whistleblower Bill Thompson, who claimed the agency colluded with researchers to destroy documents linking the injection to thousands of autism cases. The Malawian police have arrested a teacher on charges of trying to sell an albino schoolgirl for thousands of dollars. On Tuesday, Phillip Ngulube was detained in Mzuzu, the capital city of Malwai’s Northern Region, while trying to sell an albino high school student to a Tanzanian man. Ngulube was “caught by police on his way to selling the girl to an alleged Tanzanian businessman for six million Kwacha (USD 10,000),” said Malawian police spokesman Maurice Chapola. Chapola added that the girl would have most probably gotten killed for her body organs if the police had not intercepted the suspect. Ngulube, who has been accused of abduction with intent to murder, denies the allegations, saying the albino teenager is his girlfriend. Reports say several people are to stand trial in the African country over kidnapping, mutilating and murdering albinos whose body parts are superstitiously believed to be endowed with magical powers. Back in June, the United Nations voiced concern over the excruciating plight of albinos in Africa, urging the continent’s leaders to adopt serious measures to stop atrocious crimes against the marginalized group. “Hundreds of people with albinism – a majority of them children – have been killed, mutilated or otherwise attacked in at least 25 African countries, because of the belief that their body parts confer magical powers,” UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein said in a statement on the occasion of the first International Albinism Awareness Day on June 13. “More cases remain undocumented because of the isolation of the victims, the secrecy surrounding ritual practices, and indifference. Shockingly, such crimes have seldom been investigated or prosecuted,” the statement added. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, an entire Albino corpse is traded for USD 75,000 in different African countries. Albinism is a genetic disease that partially or completely disrupts the production of melanin in the body and thus results in the absence of pigment in the hair, eyes and skin. Source |

US threatens to expand the international isolation of the Russian Federation for the support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. According to White House spokesman Josh Ernest, if Russia does not join the US-led international coalition that conducts a counter-terrorist operation in Iraq and Syria and will support Assad instead, the move with isolate Moscow from the international community even more. Josh Ernest also accused the Syrian leader of the humanitarian tragedy, having obviously disregarded the humanitarian catastrophes that the United States has been causing in many countries of the world. The Kremlin believes that interfering into internal affairs of Syria is unacceptable. As President Vladimir Putin believes, it is up to Syrians to determine their own future. Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said there is still no clear understanding of what could be an alternative to the incumbent legitimate government of Syria in ensuring security in the country. A US Air Force general has admitted that the Unites States air advantage is shrinking in comparison with Russia’s capabilities. General Frank Gorenc, commander of US Air Forces in Europe, made the comment as Moscow was engaged in a massive military exercise. “The advantage that we had from the air, I can honestly say, is shrinking with respect to the aircraft that they’re producing,” Gorenc (pictured below) said at the annual Air Force Association conference on Monday. “What we saw is a very large modernization effort and a capacity effort that is manifesting itself at this point,” he added. US authorities have on several occasions voiced concerns over military modernization in Russia as well as China. Gorenc, however, said, “This is not just a Pacific problem; it is as significant in Europe as it is anywhere else on the planet. I don’t think it’s controversial to say they’ve closed the gap in capability.” The Russian Defense Ministry announced in a statement earlier that “the strategic command-and-staff (military) exercise Center–2015 has been started.” Center–2015 is being carried out over 20 sites across Russia’s central military district, which spans from the Volga River to the Ural mountains and Siberia in the east and reaches to the country’s far northern regions. The US is also sending unmanned MA-1 Predator drones to Latvia, a neighbor of Russia’s, among other military measures in the region. Meanwhile, the situation remains volatile in Eastern Europe due to a crisis in Ukraine which has exacerbated Moscow-Washington ties. The White House accuses the Kremlin of meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs and backing pro-Russia forces in eastern Ukraine. Russia has resolutely denied the claims. Source |

The Brazilian government has announced plans for $7 billion in spending cuts and $8 billion in additional taxes aimed at plugging the hole in the country’s 2016 budget. The austerity package is designed to balance the harsh economic downturn of the seventh-largest economy, whose sovereign credit rating was cut to ‘junk’ status last week. The measures are going to freeze public sector salaries, cut jobs, eliminate ministries and axe social programs. Brazil officially entered recession last month. The country’s GDP grew by only 0.1 per cent last year and is predicted to fall by 1.49 per cent in the near future. Commodity prices are falling and oil major Petrobras is involved in a corruption scandal. “We must cut the deficit of $8 billion and manage a favorable balance of $9 billion. Overall, these measures will cost us $17.3 billion,” said Brazilian Planning Minister Nelson Barbosa following the announcement. “We know this effort to cut spending will only take us so far, so as would happen in any country in the world in a moment of reduced economic activity and tax income, you have to seek out other resources,” said Brazilian Finance Minister Joaquim Levy to Bloomberg. The government’s attempt to pull the economy out of recession includes cutting the number of government ministries from 39 to 29, trimming 1,000 public sector jobs and freezing pay raises for the remaining state employees. The plans must have the approval of the Brazilian Congress before they are implemented. Source |
