WASTE & RECYCLING: Contract for Sellafield liquid waste project
A contract for the highly-active liquid effluent facility project at the UK's Sellafield nuclear site has been awarded to the HALEF Partnership - a consortium comprising Amec, Areva and Balfour Beatty.
REGULATION & SAFETY: Japanese unit cleared for extended operation
Kansai Electric Power Co has received regulatory approval to operate unit 1 of its Mihama nuclear power plant beyond its originally planned 40-year lifespan. The company also said that it will begin considering replacing the reactor with a new one.
