1. Syrian Rebels in Cannibalistic Shock Video
by Gil Ronen Syrian Rebels in Cannibalistic Shock Video

Rebels fighting against Syrian strongman Bashar Assad's forces have published a shock video showing one of them eating the heart of a dead rival.

This is a link to the extremely disturbing video.

Some in Israel saw the video as further proof that the U.S. is pursuing a wrongheaded Middle East policy. David Haivri of the Samaria Regional Council commented on the video, saying that "Syrian rebels are committing war crimes and proud to display this on the internet. If these animals win the war they will be glad to eat our hearts and abuse our women.

"The USA's lightheaded actions in the Middle East are a threat to Israel," he added.

Meanwhile, deadly weekend car bombings in a southern Turkish city "have galvanized domestic opposition to the government's steadfast support for Syrian rebels amid fears that Turkey is being dragged into the bloody conflict across its border," the Los Angeles Times reported.

"The chaos of Syria has been transported here," said Faruk Logoglu, deputy chairman of the opposition Republican People's Party, speaking Monday from the stunned town of Reyhanli, close to the Syrian border. "This is a direct result of the government's Syria policy."

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has allowed Turkish territory to be used as a logistics and organizing base for armed rebels opposed to Assad.

2. IDF Commander Vows to Protect Beit El from Attacks
by Gil Ronen Commander Vows to Protect Beit El from Attacks

Judea and Samaria Division Commander, Brig. Gen. Tamir Yadai, toured Beit El Tuesday following recent incidents in which residents of a nearby village hurled rocks at Jewish homes.

Yadai met with a girl who was wounded in one of the attacks, and spoke with her and members of the family. He said that the IDF would "refresh its instructions" to soldiers in an effort to put an end to the phenomenon.

He also met with Rabbi Zalman Melamed, who is Beit El's rabbi and Head of the Beit El Yeshiva.

A female resident of Beit El told Arutz Sheva that lately, Arab youths have been daring to draw close to the community's security fence and throw rocks at her and her family members. "In the past, they did not have the courage to approach the community," she explained. "Now they come up to the houses and hurl rocks at people, homes and cars."

A military source told Arutz Sheva that Yadai intends to act forcefully against the rock throwers and stop the "provocation" against Beit El.

3. Katzav's Accuser – Accused of Stalking
by Gil Ronen Katzav's Accuser – Accused of Stalking

A woman who played a central role in the public trial of ex-president Moshe Katzav, now in jail for rape, is facing accusations of stalking.

Known to the public only as "Aleph of the President's Residence," the woman was the first to publicly accuse Katzav of raping her. The matter became public when Katzav went to the attorney general and complained that Aleph was blackmailing him, and demanding $200,000.

Israel's media featured Aleph's complaints against Katzav in an unprecedented live press conference that disguised her identity through pixellation, as she hurled extreme and explicit accusations at Katzav. The press conference was carried on all channels during the daytime hours, with no censorship of any kind.

Aleph's testimony and character were found to be extremely unreliable and she was eventually dropped completely from the charge sheet against Katzav. However, by then, a powerful public campaign against Katzav was already underway, and more complainants had stepped up. Katzav's claims that Aleph had been blackmailing him were rejected by investigators.

A police officer now claims that Aleph has obsessively stalking him, according to the Mako (Channel 2 news) website.

The officer says that she sent him hundreds of text messages after he decided to split up with her. "The fact that I am half-orphaned and you did what you did to me: I have a father and sister in heaven who will finish you off," she wrote.

"You will die before me. Don't worry, I have seven lives. Good-bye, creep. You are making it difficult for me to enjoy my new life without you," she wrote on another occasion.

"I know how to confront people, even shout and curse," she texted once. "You've seen it. Don't bring out the evil in me, you will regret it." And another time: "Don't let me be wounded, you will regret it until your final day. If I shed one tear, you will shed ten."

The police officer's attorney told Mako that she sent him 300 text messages over several months' time, and attacked him physically. "One day, when he came home from work, he found her at his home. He asked her to leave and she said – 'I am here to confront you.' They argued and when he said that he does not want to see her, she slapped him hard in the face."

Aleph was summoned to questioning, where she denied wrongdoing and accused her former partner of hitting her. This accusation was found to be unreliable.

The complaint against Aleph is now in the hands of the prosecution, which will decide what to do with it. Aleph's lawyer told Mako in response: "My client will not be dragged into mudslinging in the press. The relationship between her and the man ended unpleasantly. However, his complaint against her is unfounded."

4. Canada Deports Arab Terrorist to Lebanon
by Elad Benari Canada Deports Arab Terrorist to Lebanon

Canada has deported to Lebanon a “Palestinian” man who lived in the country for the past 26 years over a 1968 attack on an Israeli airliner, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced Monday, according to the AFP news agency.

Issa Mohammad immigrated to Canada using a false alias in 1987, after being convicted by a Greek court of storming a civilian airliner and killing a passenger and later being released from jail in a hostage exchange.

Over the weekend, after a decades-long legal battle confirming his inadmissibility due to his deceit and ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Canada sent him back to Lebanon, where he had last gained residency through marriage, Kenney said.

"He lied about his identity, he lied about not having a criminal past, he lied about not having ties to terrorist organizations. (One year after his arrival), Canada discovered his real identity and began a process that lasted the next 25 years, trying to remove Mr. Issa Mohammad," he said, according to AFP.

The minister blamed delays in deporting Mohammad on "a system that was so bogged down in redundant process and endless appeals that it seemed to some like we would never be able to enforce the integrity of Canada's immigration system and deport this terrorist killer."

Canada's immigration laws have recently been updated to try to avoid similar drawn out legal battles, he noted.

Born in 1943, Mohammad joined the PFLP at the age of 25 and was sent to Greece with an accomplice to hijack El Al flight 253 as it made a stopover in Athens during a Tel Aviv to New York flight on December 26, 1968.

He was arrested and sentenced in 1970 for throwing grenades and firing at civilians in the attack, killing one Israeli, to 17 years in prison. Later the same year he was released as a result of a hostage negotiation when fellow PFLP members stormed another plane demanding his release.

Following his release, he lived in Cyprus, in Lebanon and in Spain before his arrival in Canada.

5. Chabad 5 Towns Rabbi: Torah is Everywhere
by Gil Ronen Chabad 5 Towns Rabbi: Torah is Everywhere

Rabbi Zalman Wolowik, Chabad Emissary to the Five Towns area of Long Island, delivered a special holiday message to Arutz Sheva viewers.

In it, he explains why the Israelites accepted Torah unquestioningly, saying – according to the Torah account – "naaseh venishma" – "we shall carry it out and we shall listen to it," in that order.

The fact that the Israelites apparently agreed to follow the Torah even before "listening" or thinking about it, has been discussed extensively by the sages. Rabbi Wolowik adds his answers to this age-old question, and explains that Torah's influence can be felt and seen everywhere.

The holiday of Shavuot marks the day on which the Israelites received the Torah from G-d, by means of Moshe Rabenu, or Moses.

6. Yitzhar: Reporter's Apology not Accepted
by Gil Ronen Yitzhar: Reporter's Apology not Accepted

Residents of the Samaria community of Yitzhar are not satisfied with an apology by Voice of Israel public radio senior reporter Carmela Menashe, regarding accusations she had broadcast against a child whom she identified as being from Yitzhar.

Menashe admitted Monday that the incident she had reported had not happened in Yitzhar and apologized to residents of Yitzhar. However, the residents said they do not intend to stop legal proceedings against Menashe.

Last Wednesday, Menashe reported that a seven year old boy in Yitzhar had accused a Bedouin soldier of raping him. According to Yitzhar officials, Menashe developed "a psychoanalytical theory" surrounding her story, in which “the imaginary child invented the story as a reaction to the murder of Evyatar Borovsky in Tapuach.”

Menashe added, in her original report, that the incident was known to Yitzhar town leaders, but that they were deliberately ignoring it.

Yitzhar officials said that Menashe, perhaps out of laziness, failed to check the facts; had she done so, she would have found that there was no record of a complaint made by any resident of Yitzhar, and that indeed there were no members from the unit of the soldier in question stationed recently in Yitzhar.

It also turns out that the child's complaint was filed before Borovsky's murder and that he did not accuse the soldier of sexually abusing him, but rather of pointing a gun at him.

Samaria officials explained that Menashe's apology was only a partial and weakly worded one. "The days in which reporters feel free to make up lies and invent details regarding settlers are over," said Yossi Dagan, Acting Head of the Samaria Regional Council.

7. Budget of Shas Schools Will Not be Cut
by Arutz Sheva Staff Budget of Shas Schools Will Not be Cut

The budget of the Shas party’s network of schools will not be cut for now.

Shas chairman MK Aryeh Deri, Education Minister Rabbi Shai Piron and Finance Minister Yair Lapid agreed on Monday evening that the planned cuts in the network of schools, which is called “Maayan Hahinuch HaTorani”, will be postponed for the time being.

The three also decided that the issue will be discussed again after the Ministry of Education sets up a state-sponsored education system for hareidim next year.

Sources close to Piron noted that “this decision joins a series of historical decisions, including the requirement to teach core subjects to hareidi students, among others.”

"The Minister of Education was authorized to submit a comprehensive law regarding the core curriculum within six months. The agreement with the chairman of the Shas party does not affect the plan to implement the study of core subjects throughout the entire Israeli education system," noted the sources.

Deri welcomed Monday’s agreement and said that "the cancellation of the cuts by the Minister of Finance is the beginning of a dialogue which is important and very necessary for all of us at this time."

The Hesder yeshivas and Zionist high yeshivas expressed deep concern earlier on Monday over the proposed budget for 2013-14.

The yeshivas' leaders note that their budgets have already been negatively affected by the fact that approval of the new budget has been delayed since the beginning of the year. They also say that the proposed cuts do not differentiate between religious-Zionist and hareidi non-Zionist yeshivas.

The Finance Ministry wants to slash the budget allotted to yeshivas by over 40% in 2013-14. About 200 million shekels are to be cut in 2013 and another 400 million in 2014.

In addition, support for yeshivas that take in students from abroad, such as Machon Meir, will be cut. The total planned cut for this year is about 650 million shekels, while the total annual budget for the Yeshiva Department is about 1 billion shekels.

8. Survivor of Itamar Massacre Marries Stepbrother
by Arutz Sheva Staff Survivor of Itamar Massacre Marries Stepbrother

Avia Shabo, who lost her mother and three brothers when a terrorist invaded their home in Itamar in 2002, married on Sunday her stepbrother, David Susan – the son of the woman whom her father married five years ago.

The couple, who got engaged in February, was married by the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau.

The Shabo family's tragedy took place on June 20, 2002, during the Palestinian Authority’s terror war against Jewish civilians (known as the "Second Intifada" or "Oslo War").

An armed terrorist entered Itamar and began firing at people indiscriminately. When he reached the Shabo family home, he broke in and murdered Rachel Shabo (40) and three of her seven children, Neria (15), Tzvika (12) and Avishai (5). Avia and another brother, Asael, were injured.

Yosi Tuito (40), who was the commander of Itamar's emergency response team, was also shot to death when he arrived at the Shabo home. IDF and Border Police forces succeeded in extricating the two wounded children under fire. The terrorist was shot and killed.

Boaz Shabo, Avia’s father, remarried five years ago, to Hila, who has five children of her own. The two made their home in Kedumim and in 2009, Hila gave birth to triplets.

One of the participants at the wedding told Arutz Sheva that the event was very exciting and was a kind of closure for the family.

"It was special to see the parents accompanying the groom and then those same parents accompanying the bride. The triplets are siblings of both the groom and the bride. It was exciting to see Asael, who lost his leg in the terror attack, dancing along with everyone and even carrying his brother on his shoulders. It was a special event,” said the participant.
