TruthDig.com 2014-12-28 20:47:00 Prisons employ and exploit the ideal worker. Prisoners do not receive benefits or pensions. They are not paid overtime. They are forbidden to organize and strike. They must show up on time. They are not paid for sick days or granted vacations. They cannot formally complain about working conditions or safety hazards. If they are disobedient, or attempt to protest their pitiful wages, they lose their jobs and can be sent to isolation cells. The roughly 1 million prisoners who work for corporations and government industries in the American prison system are models for what the corporate state expects us all to become. And corporations have no intention of permitting prison reforms that would reduce the size of their bonded workforce. In fact, they are seeking to replicate these conditions throughout the society. States, in the name of austerity, have stopped providing prisoners with essential items including shoes, extra blankets and even toilet paper, while starting to charge them for electricity and room and board. Most prisoners and the families that struggle to support them are chronically short of money. Prisons are company towns. Scrip, rather than money, was once paid to coal miners, and it could be used only at the company store. Prisoners are in a similar condition. When they go broke - and being broke is a frequent occurrence in prison - prisoners must take out prison loans to pay for medications, legal and medical fees and basic commissary items such as soap and deodorant. Debt peonage inside prison is as prevalent as it is outside prison. States impose an array of fees on prisoners. For example, there is a 10 percent charge imposed by New Jersey on every commissary purchase. Stamps have a 10 percent surcharge. Prisoners must pay the state for a 15-minute deathbed visit to an immediate family member or a 15-minute visit to a funeral home to view the deceased. New Jersey, like most other states, forces a prisoner to reimburse the system for overtime wages paid to the two guards who accompany him or her, plus mileage cost. The charge can be as high as $945.04. It can take years to pay off a visit with a dying father or mother. Fines, often in the thousands of dollars, are assessed against many prisoners when they are sentenced. There are 22 fines that can be imposed in New Jersey, including the Violent Crime Compensation Assessment (VCCB), the Law Enforcement Officers Training & Equipment Fund (LEOT) and Extradition Costs (EXTRA). The state takes a percentage each month out of prison pay to pay down the fines, a process that can take decades. If a prisoner who is fined $10,000 at sentencing must rely solely on a prison salary he or she will owe about $4,000 after making payments for 25 years.Prisoners can leave prison in debt to the state. And if they cannot continue to make regular payments - difficult because of high unemployment - they are sent back to prison. High recidivism is part of the design.

2014-12-29 13:13:00 Britain's Scotland Yard has been given the names of two more former government ministers accused of sexually abusing children, who are now added to the 22 others already involved in a high-profile pedophile scandal. The two additional names were reported to police after campaigning lawmaker John Mann was approached by a victim claiming to have been abused by the politicians, British Daily Mail reported on Sunday. Mann said the victim had given detailed information about the abuse by the two politicians, of whom one was a peer, saying the indecent incidents took place in the 1980s.

Al-Masdar News 2014-12-28 09:47:00 On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) 11th Tank Division and the National Defense Forces (NDF) carried out a raid on an Al-Nusra Front (Jabhat Al-Nusra) hideout near the city of Salamiyya in the Hama Governorate, killing scores of militants and seizing the contents inside the building, while also capturing 5 supply trucks stocked with a number of foreign goods. According to an SAA source, the 5 supply trucks that were seized by the 11th Tank Division contained a number of boxes that originated from Saudi Arabia that also read "food aid" - inside the boxes were first-aid kits, 40 grad rockets, 20 mortar shells, 23mm machine gun ammunition, 14 half barrels filled with C-4 explosives, 3 mortar launchers, and satellite televisions. The source further added that this is not the first time the SAA and NDF have confiscated these type of goods; it is common for these supply trucks to enter Syria from the Turkish border in order to resupply militant fighters combatting the Syrian Arab Army. Some of the militants killed at the hideout were also members of Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham (Falcons of the Levant Brigade) - they are a large militia in the Islamic Front (Jabhat Al-Islamiyya). A total of 19 militants were killed during the firefight, including a fighter identified as Mohammad 'Anwar Al-'Issa from the Idlib Governorate.
Comment: Saudi Arabia is part of a U.S. led coalition that is allegedly fighting ISIS. So far we've seen nothing of the sort.
U.S. provides ISIS with weapons by "accidentally" airdropping it into their hands. Saudi Arabia arms the Al-Nusra group which is aligned with ISIS. Israel provides medical aid and training to the terrorists. The coalition is one big lie. Sott.net 2014-12-29 21:53:00 In addition to Ebola, ISIS, and Ukraine in general, some of the biggest events of 2014 have involved passenger jets. First there was the mysterious disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 and its 239 passengers and crew on March 8, followed by the shoot-down of MH17 over Ukraine on July 17, killing all 298 aboard. A week later, July 24, Air Algerie Flight AH5017 enigmatically crashed in Mali, burning to a crisp and killing all 116 aboard. After that, there was the plane crash in Brazil that killed presidential candidate Eduardo Campos and six others on 13 August. Now, another Malaysia-connected flight has gone missing on December 28: AirAsia Flight QZ8501, with 162 aboard and presumed dead at this point. No distress signal, just an announcement that the pilots would gain altitude to navigate a storm, before disappearing completely from radar.

Raw Story 2014-12-28 21:39:00 The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a claim by a Virginia man who reported he was choked and slammed to the ground by an officer while filming an arrest, after surveillance video showed officers lied in their incident report, according to WAFB. Daniel Clement, 22, said he was using his cell phone to film the arrest outside of a club when an officer ripped his phone from his hand, and another officer grabbed him around the throat and then tossed him on the ground where he was mobbed by officers. "I saw a police officer push somebody and I've always been told if something like that is going on, it's important to have an objective source of data for what happened," Clement said. "So, I pulled my phone out and I started filming." According to Clement, that is when the officer snatched the phone from his hand and the other officer assaulted him. "It got ripped from my hands and as I turned to see who ripped it, another officer slammed me into the railing outside," Clement added.
Comment: It is well worth noting that it is within citizens' First Amendment rights to film police officers.

AoL.com 2014-12-29 20:04:00 A rambling post two weeks ago to a Chinese forum predicting the downing of an AirAsia flight that was previously ignored has now come back into focus after Flight QZ8501 disappeared Sunday over the Java Sea. The warning claimed a shadow organization referred to in Chinese as an "international black hand" was responsible for attacks on two Malaysian Airlines flights earlier this year and that an attack on AirAsia was imminent. The post to Tianya, a Chinese version of Reddit, came two weeks ago and predicted dire consequences for anyone flying AirAsia. "Black hand has hijacked and shot down MH370 and MH17," wrote the poster, according to a translation posted on Reddit. "Now the black hand are targeting AirAsia to ruin this airline cause it too belong to Malaysia." Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared earlier this year, possibly over the Indian Ocean. It has yet to be found. Flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine only weeks later and crashed into a large field. "Given how powerful the black hand are I suggest that all Chinese thinking about traveling to avoid AirAisa, so that you don't disappear like those on MH370," wrote the mysterious poster, who goes by the name "landlord." "You could be happily vacationing, working, or studying aboard, but if you go on Malaysian airline or AirAsia, you're dead, be careful everyone," landlord insisted, urging people to warn family and friends against flying either airline.

Reuters 2014-12-29 17:15:00 Rescue teams on Monday completed the evacuation of nearly 500 people from a car ferry that caught fire off Greece's Adriatic coast, working through the night and defying high seas and freezing weather in a 36-hour drama. But seven people were killed in the incident, the Italian coastguard said. The fire broke out on a vehicle deck of the Norman Atlantic ferry, which was carrying 478 passengers and crew and more than 200 vehicles, early on Sunday. Rescue efforts were immediately complicated by bad weather.

End of the American Dream 2014-12-29 00:13:00 Do you know people that seem like they have had their souls sucked out of them? Ondictionary.com, a "zombie" is defined as "the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose". And that sounds very much like what has happened to tens of millions of Americans. When you look into their eyes, it doesn't look like anything is even there. That is because who they once were is now dominated and controlled by the overwhelmingly powerful "matrix" that is being constructed all around us. As I wrote about the other day, virtually all news, information and entertainment that Americans consume is controlled by just six monolithic corporations. And today, Americans are more "plugged in" than ever before. The average person watches 153 hours of television a month in addition to spending countless hours watching movies, playing video games, listening to music, reading books and surfing the Internet. In the end, all of that "programming" turns many of us into virtual zombies, and that is the way that the elite like it. Just think about it. What was the biggest news story in the entire country over the holiday weekend? It was the fact that some hackers had taken down the Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox networks and millions of kids could not log in and play the video games that they had just received for Christmas. Sadly, most parents don't even bother to pay attention to what those video games are actually teaching their children.

The Independent, UK 2014-12-29 19:52:00 Archaeologists exploring the remains of a 6,000 year old temple in Ukraine have found evidence of complex sacrificial practices at the site. The temple, thought to belong to the ancient Trypillian culture, was found near the modern-day city of Nebelivka and originally unearthed in 2009. Burnt bones of lambs were found lying on the remains of stone altars, suggesting sacrifices had taken place on the site. The building, which was two stories high, was part of a vast 288 acre prehistoric settlement which may have contained as many as 1,200 buildings. The temple itself measures 60 metres by 20 metres and was made of wood and clay. It included a gallery and a courtyard.

2014-12-29 13:21:00 Hundreds of thousands of asteroids are known to orbit our Sun at distances ranging from near the Earth to beyond Saturn. The most widely known collection of asteroids, the "main belt," contains some of the largest and brightest asteroids and lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Astronomers think that the asteroids, like the planets, formed in the early solar system from the gradual agglomeration of smaller particles but that, in the case of asteroids, their growth was interrupted by mutual collisions that caused them to fragment rather than to coalesce into planets. This is an hypothesis which astronomers are trying to test by gathering new data. Their work has some immediate repercussions: NASA is currently planning an "Asteroid Redirect Mission (ARM)" as part of America's next human spaceflight enterprise. Understanding the origins of asteroid sizes - and then identifying a good one for an astronaut to recover - are prime US goals. Comment: This out dated hypothesis is slowly being re-evaluated in light of real cometary science. "The fundamental difference between asteroids and comets is not their chemical composition, i.e. dirty, fluffy icy comets vs. rocky asteroids. Rather, as has long been put forward by plasma theorists, what differentiates 'comets' from 'asteroids' is their electric activity" Earth Changes and the Human Cosmic Connection For some in the mainstream astronomy community the penny is finally dropping:Mars moon Phobos may be a captured asteroid and recent discoveries are changing attitudes: "Yet new information is already pouring in. What scientists have discovered is already starting to transform our understanding of Rosetta's target comet, 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko (C-G for short), and cometary science." Where's the ice 3 surprising comet facts we've already learned from Rosetta
Comment:bogus science'? Forget about funding for advanced warning systems - NASA et al. arebroke, and as for asteroid-deflection technologies, many are just absurd. redOrbit.com 2014-12-27 21:53:00 Researchers from Norway and Russia have found significant amount of the greenhouse gas methane is leaking from an area of the Arctic seabed off the northern coast of Siberia. According to the team's report in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, the melting of permafrost on the seafloor of the Kara Sea is releasing previously-sequestered methane. "The thawing of permafrost on the ocean floor is an ongoing process, likely to be exaggerated by the global warming of the world´s oceans," said study author Alexey Portnov at Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Climate and Environment (CAGE) at The Arctic University of Norway. Comment: Global warming isn't the culprit. Melting sea ice means that vast amounts of fresh water have spread into the North Atlantic. The lack of salt in, and low temperatures of the water will have the effect of sinking the North Atlantic drift which will cause the Jet Stream to swing much lower than usual (The North Atlantic Drift helps to keep the Jet Stream at high latitudes) which will in turn lead to much cooler temperatures over Northern Europe and, ultimately, the entire Northern Hemisphere. So we are looking at GLOBAL COOLING, NOT 'Global Warming'. Permafrost is considered soil that has been permanently frozen for at least two years and is usually much thicker on land where temperatures can stay far below the freezing point for months on end. "Bottom water temperature is usually close to or above zero. Theoretically, therefore, we could never have thick permafrost under the sea," Portnov explained. He added that 20,000 years ago, during the last ice age, the sea level dropped nearly 400 feet. "It means that today´s shallow shelf area was land. It was Siberia. And Siberia was frozen," Portnov said. "The permafrost on the ocean floor today was established in that period."

2014-12-26 20:09:00 On Christmas afternoon, Fremont police received several calls about coyote attacks. The first call came in at 5:41 p.m. about a 42-year-old man who was walking to his car parked in front of a home in the 3100 block of Starr Street when a coyote bit his leg, according to police. The man apparently ran with his children toward a house and the coyote followed the group. Everyone was able to get inside before the coyote followed, police said. The man was then driven to a hospital to treat the bite. Officers responded to the area, but could not find the animal.

The Local, Spain 2014-12-29 18:50:00 A slow-moving meteoroid provided a dramatic spectacle as it streaked more than 1,200 kilometres (745 miles) across Spain during the new king's Christmas Eve speech. While King Felipe was delivering his inaugural Christmas message, a different kind of show was taking place in skies above Spain with an earth-grazing fireball travelling diagonally from the south-east of Spain to the north-west of the country. The 100kg (220 pound) rock with a diameter of just one metre entered Spanish skies at the border between the regions of Murcia and Almeria and left the country via the south of Galicia about a minute later. It then bounced off the Earth's atmosphere shortly after heading out over the Atlantic ocean.

2014-12-27 07:34:00 Some barley fields in Mexico's Texcoco region were garnered with strange sprawling crop circle designs overnight Christmas Eve. Crop circles have been appearing around the world for decades, many believing the often very intricate and massive designs to be messages from some otherworldly entity. Skeptics, meanwhile, have long called crop circles man-made poppycock. Regardless, the fresh new crop circles in Mexico have sparked the curiosity of many, with hundreds of people and the media turning out in droves to witness the mysterious - and possibly alien - crop circle designs. The mystery of the seven-hectare crop circle pattern that appeared in the Texcoco, Mexico, barley fields on Christmas eve remains unsolved, reports RT, along with severalMexican media outlets. The Christmas Eve skies in the area of Mexico where the crop circles appeared were reportedly cloudy and rainy, but many locals in the Texcoco region, located about 25 kilometers from Mexico City, reported seeing bright lights in those skies overnight.Like gifts left by Santa Claus, the local residents found the crop circles in the morning which, coupled with the strange lights, left many in wonder at the bizarre crop circle patterns in their local barley field.

Raw Story 2014-12-28 23:49:00 Fox News host Anna Kooiman speculated on Sunday that an AirAsia flight could have gone missing because international pilots were trained using the metric system. During breaking coverage of missing Flight QZ8501, Kooiman asked former FAA spokesperson Scott Brenner if the "real reason" the plane had disappeared was because of the "different way other countries train their pilots." "Even when we think about temperature, it's Fahrenheit or Celsius," she pointed out. "It's kilometers or miles. You know, everything about their training could be similar, but different."
