Feinstein wanted Julian Assange, who isn't a US citizen and never served in the US Government, prosecuted for espionage for exposing war crimes, and demanded that Edward Snowden be charged with "treason" for exposing illegal eavesdropping which shocked the world. But a four-star general who leaked classified information not for any noble purpose but to his mistress should be protected from any legal consequences.
The terror attack on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo must now face a terrifying reality: It's a horrible thing when an organ of free speech is assaulted and journalists die.

The American Psychological Association's salvation begins with letting go of its stubborn denials of any connection to the Bush Administration's program of torture and abuse, its self-righteous assertions that it has always prohibited psychologists from participating in torture, and its false assurances that it will take assertive action against any members implicated in detainee mistreatment.
It's no surprise that "centrist" Democrats are troubled by the challenge posed by senators like Warren, Ohio's Sherrod Brown, and Vermont's Bernie Sanders. These senators' positions aren't just good policy; they're good politics, too. While the well-funded "centrists" have too much money and media influence to be counted out, this movement poses a real threat to their dominance over the Democratic Party.

Blowback is a b*tch
Since 9/11 we have vilified Muslims. We have waged war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and now in Syria. It isn't just the United States, France was one of the countries that provided aircraft to bomb Libya and sent their Army into Mali. It seems like it is a free for all in the Middle East and Muslim Africa. If you are Muslim, you are a target.
With many House Democrats already committed to "no" on TPP's corporate usurpation of our people's sovereign rights, and with a chunk of GOP members already loath to give Obama any unilateral executive power, it's quite possible for our voices to make a difference on the Fast Track vote.
Democrats are proposing an "action plan" on the inequality crisis, but only now that they have lost their majority in Congress and don't have to worry that such a plan might actually become law, writes TCBH! journalist Dave Lindorff
The murder of twelve people at France's Charlie Hebdo newspaper is being hijacked to promote a new wave of anti-Muslim hatred. The media is typically devoid of any real context and Americans are again being duped into signing up for the clash of civilizations. It is so easy that it doesn't even take a real domestic "terrorist" attack like 9/11 to whip the star-spangled sheep into a blood frenzy anymore.
"Without understanding tax havens, we'll never properly understand the economic history of the modern world," wrote Nicholas Shaxson, author of 'Treasure Islands.' "Tax havens are now at the heart of the global economy. Their tentacles have curled their way into pretty much everything."
Rise in mass die-offs seen among birds, fish and marine invertebrates -- ScienceDaily
analysis of 727 mass die-offs of nearly 2,500 animal species from the past 70 years has found that such events are increasing among birds, fish and marine invertebrates. At the same time, the number of individuals killed appears to be decreasing for reptiles and amphibians, and unchanged for mammals.

Three reports from the National Endowment for the Arts reveal new findings about the impact of arts and cultural industries on GDP, as well as how and why Americans participate in certain arts activities. The data for the three reports is all from 2012, so for the first time the NEA can show a comprehensive view of a single year in the life of the arts and cultural sector from three different angles: supply, demand, and motivations for consumer behavior. The new information will help arts providers and others more effectively understand and develop strategies to engage individuals and communities in the arts.
The unilateral, illegal bombing campaign of the Peace Prize Laureate killed dozens of victims of Islamic extremism. But unlike the Charlie Hebdo case, there is no worldwide mourning for these nobodies, these brown nobodies from the back of beyond. Islamic State denied their "free speech" by imprisoning them; then Barack Obama ended it entirely, by killing them.
Robert Crumb is considered by many to be the single best cartoonist America has ever produced. The creator of counter culture icons like Fritz the Cat, the Keep On Truckin guy and Mr Natural, Mr. Crumb was inducted into the comic book Hall of Fame in 1991, the same year he moved his family to France, where he has resided ever since. Writer Celia Farber reached him at his home on Friday, January 9, 2015, to talk about the massacre of cartoonists and others in Paris this week.
the question is, how did the big, top-down phenomena happen. And what are the big top-down early manifestations of top-down?

To add fuel to the roaring fire, certain news organizations and individuals have rushed to condemn all Muslims for the acts of an infinitesimal, disenfranchised minority. Some claiming that the Muslim community doesn't do enough to protest these horrible actions being committed in the name of Islam. Wrong again. Tens of thousands of true Muslims have protested all over the world, France included.
Ankara (AFP) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday blasted Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu for "daring" to attend an anti-terror solidarity march in Paris, accusing him of leading "state terrorism" against the Palestinians. He said he could "hardly understand how he (Netanyahu) dared to go" to Sunday's massive march in the French capital and urged him to "give an account for the children, women you massacred." Erdogan said Netanyahu had no right to be there after nearly 2,200 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed in Israel's onslaught on Hamas-controlled Gaza earlier this year. "How can you see this individual, who carries out state terrorism by massacring 2,500 people in Gaza, waving his hand?" said Erdogan. "He is waving his hand as if people are very enthusiastically waiting for him," added Erdogan.

The USA didn't send a meaningful representative to the Charlie Hebdo march in France. I think this situation should have all Americans asking themselves -- what are we? The scale of this symbolic blunder is huge and we should be asking what the folks that run this place are truly made of? We can make big movies about snipers but we can't send a meaningful symbol to represent what we claim that sniper was killing for?

Half of Shas
SHAS IS the party of oriental orthodox Jewish Israelis. It is debatable whether it is foremost orthodox or foremost oriental. I believe that the oriental part of its outlook is far more important. Orientals are now about half the Jewish population of Israel. The rift between them and the Jews of European origin, which was expected to disappear over time, is growing.
Jumping on the Muslim-bashing bandwagon, Fox News' commentator Steven Emerson claimed Muslims have seized control of parts of London and all of Birmingham, terrorizing non-Muslims to flee, claims so absurd that even he was forced to back-track, reports Robert Parry.

In fewer than 48 hours Syria can achieve relief for her endangered citizens seeking lifesaving refuge in Lebanon
The case for Syria applying the essential legal principle and pillar of bi-lateral international relations, Reciprocity, in order to encourage Lebanese officials to meet their international legal obligations and thereby spare the lives of countless Syrian and Palestinian refugees being denied life-saving refuge at Syria-Lebanon borders is a strong one.
Both the US and Israel pride themselves in being "democratic" while the rest of the informed world ridicules the inconsistency of their words with their actions.

Pourquoi Je ne suis pas Charlie Hebdo
The Charlie Hebdo tragedy is a thinly disguised parody of what used to be the "white man's burden" in the heydays of colonialism. It is therefore racist too by extension, a racism hiding behind discourses such as free speech within the "comfort zone" of western democracy.

Even Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Natanyahu, fresh from butchering 500 Muslim children in Gaza solemnly marched against the criminal barbarism of killing 12 westerners.
War On Terror is a pretext for illegal regime change. Western use of proxies creates more rather than less terrorism.

Faux Pas
No amount of native speaking from the semi-French Secretary of State will make amends for the lack of proper US official representation at today's march in Paris in response to the recent terror attacks. 3.7 million people in rallies in France and elsewhere marched to raise awareness of the dangers of terrorism.
Yesterday a million people, including world leaders marched in Paris over the Charlie Hebdo massacre committed last week. "Officials" say the perpetrators were 3 Muslim terrorists killed in a separate incident. The revulsion to the crime by people is palpable. But what if the "official" version of events is not exactly what the gov't says it is? Certainly there's been no investigation confirming it. Skepticism is justified.
The can of worms opened in Paris. It's not a straightforward situation.

Muslim Worker at Kosher Store Saved Jewish Lives During Paris Attack
BRADBLOG- Certain to not get nearly the amount of attention as those hoping to attack the Islamic religion based on the behavior of its extremists, this story from AP, in the wake of last week's tragedies in Paris" After making sure shoppers were hiding, safe in the freezer he had turned off, he escaped to give the key to the shop to the police so they could rescue others. Washington Post's account of the story explains that, after he slipped out, "Bathily spent the next 90 minutes in cuffs before he managed to convince authorities he was who he said he was. He told the cops he wasn't alone. There were more than a dozen other hostages locked inside the store's freezer."
Germany's growing anti-Islamic protest movement registered its largest attendance on Monday with 25,000 supporters turning out in what organisers described as a tribute to the victims of the terror attacks in Paris. Pegida started out in mid-October with a demonstration in Dresden attended by about 200 supporters. In early December it attracted 15,000 supporters. On 22 December a record 17,500 attended the movement's weekly Monday protest in the city. While continually met with counter-demonstrations, it surge in popularity has shocked established political parties and come at a time which concerns over immigration are polarising the country. But there are fears that last week's attacks in Paris have, in some cases, crystallised the cause of the protest movement which on Monday registered its largest figures yet.

James Risen, a New York Times reporter, will not be called to testify at a leak trial scheduled to begin this week, lawyers said Monday, ending a seven-year legal fight over whether he could be forced to identify his confidential sources. "We said from the very beginning that under no circumstances would Jim identify confidential sources to the government or anyone else," Mr. Risen's lawyer, Joel Kurtzberg, said. "The significance of this goes beyond Jim Risen. It affects journalists everywhere. Journalists need to be able to uphold that confidentiality in order to do their jobs."
Should U.S. President Barack Obama and Western powers reach a nuclear deal with Iran, they could face a new hurdle: a Republican Congress. Republicans are eyeing various Iran-related measures, including legislation to impose fresh sanctions should talks fail and to require congressional review of any deal. The Obama administration opposes new sanctions during the negotiating period and Iran has said that they could pull out of talks should Congress pass new sanctions.
It is amazing that Republicans who could not pass any legislation last year, spent the first four days of the 114th Congress stealing from women, retired and disabled Americas, large corporations' employees, and various government departments and the Executive Branch. For the past six years, Republicans have attempted to steal everything from the people, regardless of what it is, to fulfill the Koch brothers' vision for America. hey will repeat their crimes with increasing frequency because they have just enough support from criminally inhumane voters who are too stupid to realize they are being robbed and ignorant enough to think they will share in the stolen bounty.
The Charlie Hebdo cartoons no one is showing you.
Below are cartoons drawn over the past several decades by Cabu, one of the most emblematic cartoonists at Charlie Hebdo (if not the most). Cabu was murdered along with his colleagues this past week. He was 75 years old. Although no media outlet in the US will show you these images, they can all be found online with a simple Google search.
The vast majority of cops have no problem if the mayor shows up at their line-of-duty funerals, sources tell the Daily News. Only 850 NYPD officers have asked Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito not to come to their last rites if they die on the job, police sources said. That means about 4% of the 23,000 active members of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association signed the missive on the union's website. "That's low," one of the sources said.
