Hollande-Valls manage terrorism in France!

 Daily Headlines

Since that glorious "free speech" march, France has reportedly opened 54 criminal cases for "condoning terrorism." AP reported this morning that "France ordered prosecutors around the country to crack down on hate speech, anti-Semitism and glorifying terrorism."

Accused leaker and ex-CIA officer Jeffrey Sterling may face an uphill battle for acquittal as a northern Virginia federal court empanelled a jury that seemed generally sympathetic to the U.S. intelligence community, reports Norman Solomon.
Russia announced that it would no longer use the Ukrainei pipeline to deliver natural gas to Europe. This is a blow to Europe and a threat to the economy of every EU nation. Will the EU come to its seances? Can the Europeans change from puppets to nation states?

So-called benefits of constructing the northern section of the Keystone XL pipeline do not come close to overcoming the economic, health and environmental drawbacks. This article updates revelation of some myths propounded by proponents.

From Neighborhood Cops to Robocops: The Changing Face of American Police
If 2014 was the year of militarized police, armored tanks, and stop-and-frisk searches, 2015 may well be the year of technologized police, surveillance blimps and scan-and-frisk searches. Just as we witnessed neighborhood cops being transformed into soldier cops, we're about to see them shapeshift once again, this time into robocops, complete with robotic exoskeletons, super-vision contact lenses, computer-linked visors ...
For now, it makes sense for the "Run Warren Run" initiative to continue. The caucuses and primaries are a year off. There are no looming filing deadlines. This is the clearest window of opportunity for activists who would draft a candidate into the presidential competition of either party. An honest draft always begins with a candidate who says "no."

Proposal for an American mass movement focused upon restoring democracy.
The world just witnessed how the actions of a handful of terrorists could send a nation into a state of near hysteria, striking fear into the hearts of its people. The deadly attacks that took place in Paris recently are an example of what is called "blowback"; acts of revenge taken by those who believe that their nations and people have been continually intimidated and humiliated by aggressive, oppressive forces.

What if the Public Understood How Money Works?
There's something invigorating about people freaking out about modern monetary theory (MMT). They treat MMT as akin to the Ark of the Covenant in the first Indiana Jones movie.
The Senate's Monday vote to start the debate over the Keystone XL pipeline bill has opened the legislative floodgates for the new GOP Congress, with members on both sides of the aisle set to unleash a torrent of politically sensitive energy amendments on issues such as crude oil exports and climate change. The Senate vote of 63-32 to begin debate comes after the House passed its bill on Friday to approve the pipeline that would link Alberta's oil sands to refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The White House has threatened to veto the Keystone bill, which lacks the Democratic votes both in the House and the Senate necessary to override a presidential rejection.

How to Survive and Prevail in This Era of Greed and Privatization; by Diane Ravitch
IMPORTANT RE; SCHOOLS! Some people think that the billionaires will get so frustrated by their repeated failures that they will move on to disrupt something else. The bottom line is that you never win in a confrontation by digging your head into the sand. Complacency is self-defeating. While you close your eyes to what is happening, the high-stakes testing will get worse, your community public schools will be closed, experienced teachers will be fired, and schooling will become a consumer choice, like buying milk at the grocery store (the analogy that Jeb Bush suggested at the Republican convention in 2012, that picking a school should be as easy as choosing between 1% milk, 2% milk, whole milk, chocolate milk, whatever).meanwhile, if we do nothing, we will find that one of the institutions considered essential to our democracy will have been destroyed by free-market ideology and greed.
If Jeb Bush Runs for President, Remember This; by Diane Ravitch
If Jeb Bush should run for President, this article bears re-reading. Bush spoke at a rightwing policy conference in Michigan, where he "trashed" public schools, saying that public education "dumbs down standards to make adults look better," a phrase often used by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan."
The Republican National Committee announced on Wednesday that it will hold the convention where it will choose the party's next nominee for president in mid-July 2016, considerably earlier than the event has been held in the past. The Republican National Convention will be held from July 18 to July 21 in Cleveland, Ohio. RNC chairman Reince Priebus pushed up the convention in an effort to give the party more time to unite behind its presidential candidate going into the November elections. In a statement, Priebus said that the earlier convention would allow the GOP candidate to use funds that are inaccessible until the candidate is officially chosen.

Ohio man who allegedly wanted to set up an ISIS cell in the U.S. was arrested Wednesday and accused of planning to attack the U.S. Capitol. But U.S. officials told NBC News the man was dealing with a government informer working undercover the entire time and was never in a position to carry out his plan. Christopher Lee Cornell, 20, of Green Township, near Cincinnati, was arrested after he bought two M-15 semi-automatic rifles and about 600 rounds of ammunition as the undercover operative watched, according to an FBI affidavit.
A Malaysian defense contractor at the center of one of the biggest corruption cases in the Navy's history is expected to plead guilty Thursday, giving federal prosecutors a major victory in criminal proceedings that have already ensnared several high-ranking commanders. Five other people have already pleaded guilty in the case, including a Navy captain, a retired lieutenant commander, an enlisted officer and a senior agent with the Naval Criminal Investigation Service. The criminal investigation has spanned eight states and eight Asian countries, with more than 100 law enforcement agents involved.
Muslims and Arabs have legitimate grievances against the U.S. government and its allies -- even if some of their responses are illegitimate. These crimes must not be excused. But the way to end Muslim violence in the West is for the West to end its violence against Muslims.
A World War II discussion-starter about terrorism, war, legitimate targets, and western double standards. How do you answer the questions posed in this thought experiment?
In the wake of the Charlie Hebdo tragedy, many world leaders have highlighted the important values of peace, freedom of the press, and accountability. But how true have Western societies been to these ideals and what is their promise for promoting the empathy and justice needed to bridge cultural divides?

And So It Begins...
Well, that didn't take long. The Neocons have controlled the House of Representatives for what, a week? They are already busy busy at work, attempting to overturn President Obama's legislative efforts. Today the House voted to repeal many of the provisions of Obama's immigration reform plan, sucking away legal protections from millions of immigrant families.
The U.S. government protection of the Israeli government's actions is the single most important reason why apartheid Israel exists. Without the support of the U.S. government in United Nations votes and in provision of military equipment to use on Palestinians, the Israeli government would not be able to act with impunity.
Since Tuesday and continuing for the coming three weeks, an amazing trial is happening in U.S. District Court at 401 Courthouse Square in Alexandria, Va. The trial is open to the public, and among the upcoming witnesses is Condoleezza Rice, but -- unlike the Chelsea Manning trial -- most of the seats at this somewhat similar event are empty.

This article is about the widely disparate reviews of the movie Selma, regarding how LBJ was portrayed. The perspectives of the reviewers reflect their basic opinions of President Johnson, formed by years of myth-making by his sycophants, then and now. The myths are so great that they have become "legend" which means they are regarded as "truth" despite their being based upon lies.

Israel's foreign minister called Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan an "anti-Semitic bully" in a meeting with Israeli ambassadors on Wednesday and said Europe was being cowardly in not taking him on. In an address to Israeli envoys based in Europe and Asia, Avigdor Lieberman, the leader of far-right party Yisrael Beitenu, was withering about Erdogan, a staunch critic of Israeli policy towards the Palestinians. A former nightclub bouncer who was born in Moldova and migrated to Israel in the 1970s, Lieberman was also critical of Europe's reaction to last week's Islamist attacks in Paris, saying the anti-Semitic nature of them had been played down. "I believe his shameful remarks must be repudiated by the international community, because the war against terror will only succeed if it's guided by moral clarity."

World Leaders gathered on Sunday, marched arm & arm, in unity on the streets of Paris. Glaringly absent, were American cabinet members, particularly the President or the VP. Although, it would have been a proud moment for the country, there have been inexcusable breaches in security by the Secret Service over the past few years, including at the White House. Given record number of threats against this President, tarnished image/competency of the agency, a public/exposed appearance was to be avoided.

Offshore Wind Blows Drilling Out of the Water: Report
While the oil and gas industry continues to push for expanded drilling operations off the Atlantic coast--and receives government subsidies for it--a new report by an ocean conservation group finds that the benefits produced by wind energy eclipse those of fossil fuels, with far fewer risks.
In the cold reality of politics, the killing of four French Jews in a Paris supermarket seems to have helped Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deliver a strong message to Israeli voters that he has their back. Accusing Netanyahu of missteps, critics saw comedy amid the tragedy as he maneuvered his way into a front-row position at the rally in honor of the 17 dead in the shooting assaults on the satirical journal Charlie Hebdo and in the kosher market. The Israeli leader even won grudging praise in the left-wing Haaretz newspaper - one of his strongest critics - for reminding French Jews that they can always migrate to the Jewish state.

The Secret Service has decided to remove four of its most senior officials while a fifth has decided to retire, the biggest management shake-up at the troubled agency since its director resigned in October after a string of security lapses. The departures would gut much of the Secret Service's upper management, which has been criticized by lawmakers and administration officials in recent months for fostering a culture of distrust between agency leaders and its rank-and-file, and for making poor decisions that helped erode quality.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is considering lifting grand jury secrecy in cases where people died in clashes with the police as a way to increase public trust in the criminal justice system. Topping the list is releasing evidence and testimony presented to grand juries where police officers are the subject of investigations that end with no charges and do not go to trial, as occurred in the Garner case.Sources said court officials have suggested eliminating grand jury secrecy in all high profile cases involving public officials -- not just police -- but politicians would likely oppose it. "No one would want sleazy stuff exposed if they were cleared," another source explained.
The past several decades have seen transformative progress in cosmology -- the study of the origins, evolution, and fate of the universe. Powerful experiments, made possible by recent advances in technology, have sharpened our understanding of the universe, and unveiled vexing new puzzles to be solved. Smith, a Faculty member at Perimeter Institute, will explore the yet-unsolved mysteries of dark matter (the invisible gravitational glue of the universe), the quantum mechanical nature of the big bang, and the new questions that future generations of scientists will tackle. "We've only just recently been able to learn really fundamental facts about the universe we live in, and we don't really know what we're going to find next," says Smith. During the talk, Smith will provide an accessible and fascinating overview of what we know about time and space on the grandest scales.
