United Arab Emirates: Stop the charade and release activists convicted at the mass UAE 94 trial
On the second anniversary of the start of the mass “UAE 94” trial that imprisoned dozens of government critics and reform activists in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a coalition of 13 organizations calls on the UAE government to release immediately and unconditionally all those imprisoned solely for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of expression and association.

Rwanda: Journalist found guilty on defamation charges
ARTICLE 19 is disappointed by the conviction of Burasa Jean Gualbert, Managing Editor of Rushyashya Newspaper on defamation charges without effectively considering his fair comment defense. The journalist has been given a 6 month suspended sentence and fined 3.2 million Rwanda Francs (approximately $4,640USD) by the Nyarugenge primary court.

Right to information in Myanmar?
In 2014, the government of Myanmar outlined its desire to
join the Open Government Partnership, a club of states that agree to adopt certain standards in order to be regarded as “open”.
One of the conditions of joining the club is to promote transparency, not something that is usually linked with the newly civilian government of Myanmar.
