Blockchain ledgers can potentially bypass today's centralised financial infrastructure, according to a report by BBVA Research US. However, the possibility of a public ledger replacing the current centralised system, the report says, also comes with various risks and challenges.

A man charged by US prosecutors for operating bitcoin exchange service Coin.mx without a money transmission license has been released on bail. Murgio was arrested alongside Yuri Lebedev on 21st July and if convicted of money-laundering charges faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

On Friday, Coin Center executive director Jerry Brito sought to denounce the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and Copia Institute, which are opposing the law.

A new post by Deutsche Bank Research suggests banks should seek to leverage blockchain tech in an effort to improve services. Overall, the paper encourages the traditional financial sector to innovate without waiting on regulation, arguing that banks could use "certain parts" of the blockchain for different purposes.
