STATEMENT

Bahrain: Charges against activist must be dropped

Maytham Al Salman, inter-faith activist and human rights defender, has been arrested and charged with ‘inciting hatred against the system of government’ and ‘disseminating false news’. He was released after 12 hours, but the charges against him still stand and a travel ban is in effect.

Azerbaijan: Journalist murdered as rights crackdown continues

Rasim Aliyev died in a Baku hospital after being severely beaten; he had reported receiving threats via social media networks for three weeks leading up to his death. This murder takes place in the context of an ongoing crackdown on human rights in the aftermath of the European Games at Baku, and leading up to the November elections in Azerbaijan. Read more >
