The Right To Blog: New policy calls for better protection for bloggers

ARTICLE 19 launches The Right to Blog – a new policy paper that calls for lawmakers to better promote and protect the rights of bloggers domestically and internationally - at UNESCO World Press Freedom International Conference 2013.

The Right to Blog also gives practical advice to bloggers about their rights and explains how - and in what situations - they can invoke some of the privileges and defences that traditional journalists have found vital to the integrity of their work. Read more >

Digital switchover: International experts launch joint statement calling for better protection of free expression

Azerbaijan at the UPR: UN Member States must hold Azerbaijan to account

The member states of the United Nations should hold Azerbaijan to account during its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) on 30 April 2013 for its failure to protect basic human rights. The International Partnership Group on Azerbaijan, coordinated by ARTICLE 19, and local organisations urge the UN to take Azerbaijan to task for failing to implement the commitments it made after its first review in 2009. Read more >

ARTICLE 19 is concerned for the safety of the Moroccan academic and human rights activist Ahmed Assid following calls for his murder for "defaming the prophet Mohamed". Malaysia: Attacks on free speech ahead of elections

ARTICLE 19 is concerned that attempts are being made to silence media outlets and politicians ahead of a general election in the country this coming Sunday, 5 May 2013. ARTICLE 19 has received multiple reports of radio jamming and cyber attacks on websites as well as threats made against opposition politicians. These attempts to silence public debate are widely believed to come from members of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
