The threat of a possible toxic leak in the US sector of the ISS forced the American astronauts on board to isolate their module and move to the Russian sector. The hatch was reopened hours later after no leak was detected, NASA reported.
The decision to reopen the hatch was done after receiving data readings from a variety of sensors aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and carefully studying flight controllers throughout the day, all of which indicated “no leakage of ammonia on the station.”
NASA says the false alarm may have been caused by a “transient error message in one of the station’s computer relay systems, called a multiplexer-demultiplexer.”
After turning the relay box off and on again, the error message disappeared. Flight controllers have said the relay box is in good operating condition.
The European and two American astronauts returned to the US side at 20:05 GMT, NASA said.
NASA is continuing to analyze flight controller data in an effort to determine what triggered the alarm in the first place.

The incident, which occurred at about 09:00 GMT, prompted the six-member crew to put on emergency masks and rush to the Russian side of the orbital station to avoid potential poisoning from ammonia, which is used in the cooling and heating systems of the ISS.
“At this time the team does not believe we leaked ammonia,” ISS program manager Mike Suffredini said. “There was never any risk to the crew,” he added.
The interactions between the components of the ISS Environmental Control and Life Support System.
“The safety of the crew has been secured by prompt joint action by the US and Russian crewmembers, as well as by mission control staff in Moscow and Houston,” said the head of the Russian Mission Control Center, Maksim Matyushin.
The current crew of the International Space Station consists of six researchers representing two expeditions. Expedition 42 arrived on the ISS in September and consists of US astronaut Commander Barry Wilmore and Russian cosmonaut engineers Aleksandr Samokutyaev and Elena Serova – the first Russian female cosmonaut in 17 years.

Oil prices have plunged more than 50 percent since June last year.
Oil prices have slumped even further to reach six-year lows, amid oversupplies by certain countries and a sluggish global economy.
The US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February delivery saw an 18-cent drop on Tuesday, selling at USD 45.89 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
It was the WTI’s lowest close since March 11, 2009, when it was sold at USD 42.33.
European benchmark Brent crude oil for February delivery finished at USD 46.59 a barrel in London, down 84 cents from Monday, when it had closed below USD 50 for the first time since April 2009.
Earlier, the United Arab Emirates’ Oil Minister Suhail bin Mohammed al-Mazroui said the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) would not be changing its production strategy, and there is no intention to meet again until June.
Kuwait’s Oil Minister Ali al-Omair also echoes the remarks on Tuesday when he said, “We expect this situation to continue until the surplus on the market is absorbed and the world economy improves. Forecasts indicate that this will not happen before the second half of 2015.”
Oil prices have plunged more than 50 percent since June last year over increased supplies by certain countries such as Saudi Arabia, the largest producer in OPEC, and lackluster global economic growth.
OPEC, which pumps out about 40 percent of the world’s oil, has so far refrained from cutting its production to balance the market mainly due to opposition from Saudi Arabia. The cartel produces 30 million barrels per day.

A letter from pro-choice lawyer Ron Weddington to President-elect Bill Clinton reveals how the wealthy elite rely on abortion to reduce the number of people born into poverty, a notion which follows lockstep with the globalist population control eugenics agenda.
The letter, uncovered in 2006 by government watchdog Judicial Watch, shows how the attorney instrumental in bringing about the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision urged “President-To-Be Clinton” to “eliminate the barely educated, healthy and poor segment of our country” by using the power of persuasion to “convince the poor that they can’t get out of poverty when they have all those extra mouths to feed,” and therefore must seek government subsidized birth control methods.
Weddington’s letter, which can be read in full below, is a testament to the fact that abortion, largely upheld as a women’s right issue by the liberal left and radical feminists, is actually a tool of controlling the population and selectively breeding a desired society, much like the Third Reich’s aim was to create a super-race.
Excerpts of Weddington’s 1992 letter to Clinton follow. Read the letter in its entirety below.
“[Y]ou can start immediately to eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country. No, I’m not advocating some sort of mass extinction of these unfortunate people. Crime, drugs and disease are already doing that. The problem is that their numbers are not only replaced but increased by the birth of millions of babies to people who can’t afford to have babies…
[...] If current trends continue, soon a majority of the babies born will be born into poverty and one half of the country cannot support the other half, no matter how good our intentions.
I am not proposing that you send federal agents armed with Depo-Provera dart guns to the ghetto. You should use persuasion rather than coercion. You and Hillary are a perfect example. Could either of you have gone to law school and achieved anything close to what you have if you had three or four more children before you were 20? No! You waited until you were established in your 30s to have one child. That is what sensible people do…
It’s time to officially recognize that people are going to have sex and what we need to do as a nation is prevent as much disease and as many poor babies as possible.
Condoms alone won’t do it. Depo-Provera, Norplant and the new birth control injection being developed in India are not a complete answer…
No, government is going to have to provide vasectomies, tubal ligations and abortions… RU-486 and conventional abortions. Even if we make birth control as ubiquitous as sneakers and junk food, there will still be unplanned pregnancies. There have been about 30 million abortions in this country since Roe V Wade. Think of all the poverty, crime and misery… And then add 30 million unwanted babies to the scenario.
[...] The biblical exhortation to “Be fruitful and multiply,” was directed toward a small tribe, surrounded by enemies. We are long past that. Our survival depends upon our developing a population where everyone, contributes. We don’t need more cannon fodder. We don’t need more parishioners, We don’t need more cheap labor. We don’t need more poor babies.
The Clinton administration subsequently went on to score multiple victories for the abortion industry, including keeping “family planning” services available to “low-income patients,” according to Planned Parenthood, evidently highly receptive to the idea of eliminating poor people.
From Planned Parenthood.org:
In 1993, President Bill Clinton, the first pro-choice president in 12 years arrives at the White House. In one of his first acts, he repeals the Title X gag rule, which prohibited low-income patients from receiving medical information, counseling, or referrals for abortion services. That same day, Clinton overturns the global gag rule that denied funding to international family planning organizations. While in office, President Clinton vetoes two federal abortion bans. Physicians could have been jailed, fined, and/or sued for performing safe abortion procedures only vaguely defined in the legislation.
Weddington’s missive is a testament to the true purpose behind abortion, which is to cleanse society of undesirables and reduce the overall global population as eugenics programs throughout history have done.
In order to convince the public that abortion is a societal good, however, governments regularly enlist social scientists to justify the practice of killing children.
A recently unearthed economic research paper, co-authored by embattled Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber in 1997, for example, illustrated how the system justifies the macabre act by citing taxpayer savings.
Gruber’s paper, entitled “Abortion Legalization and Child Living Circumstances: Who is the ‘Marginal Child,” essentially concluded that the welfare system was better off after the Roe v. Wade decision because it “saved the government over $14 billion in welfare payments through the year 1994.”
Even the woman at the center of the Roe v. Wade controversy, Norma McCorvey (AKA ‘Jane Roe’), sought for the Supreme Court to overturn the decision after coming to the realization that it was “no longer just” and that “abortion hurts women,” according to her attorney.
Dr. Alveda King, the niece of civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr., has also gone on record stating that the culling of the American black population has not come from lynch mobs, but from abortionists “who plant their killing centers in minority neighborhoods and prey upon women who think they have no hope.”
“The great irony is that abortion has done what the Klan only dreamed of… Roughly one quarter of the black population is now missing,” King said.

About 250 people marched in Washington with a goal of stopping future deportations, on Oct. 14, 2013.
Republican lawmakers in the US House of Representatives voted Wednesday to block President Barack Obama’s executive immigration initiatives, setting up a fresh clash between the GOP dominated Congress and the White House.
US representatives voted 236 to 191 to pass a $40 billion funding bill for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after attaching five controversial immigration amendments.
One of the amendments would block Obama’s 2012 initiative to defer deportation actions against immigrants who were brought illegally to the US as children.
Another amendment prohibits any spending to implement Obama’s November executive order aimed at removing the threat of deportation for millions of undocumented immigrants.
However, the bill is unlikely to survive in its current form and Obama has threatened to veto the measure, which could lead to a partial shutdown of the DHS.
“Republicans have only been in control for a week and already they are picking an unnecessary political fight that risks shutting down the Department of Homeland Security and endangering our security,” said Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid.
“Republicans should stop playing games and pass a clean bill to fund (DHS).”
In November, Obama called the US immigration system “broke” and imposed the most sweeping immigration reform in a generation, easing the threat of deportation for some 4.7 million undocumented immigrants.

Nearly half of Britons hold anti-Semitic views, a survey has revealed. It also found that one in eight Brits surveyed (13 percent) thought Jews used talking about the Holocaust to get sympathy.
A YouGov poll asked 3,411 UK adults about their attitudes toward UK Jewish citizens. It found that 45 percent polled believed at least one anti-Semitic view presented to them was “definitely or probably true.”
Many found clichés and stereotypes about Jews to be true. One in four believed Jewish people “chase money more than others,” while one in six people felt Jews thought they were better than other people and had too much power in the media.
The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA), which commissioned the study, said Britain was at a “tipping point” in its Annual Anti-Semitism Barometer report.
Gideon Falter, chairman of the CAA, said: “The results of our survey are a shocking wake-up call straight after the atrocities in Paris.
“Britain is at a tipping point. Unless anti-Semitism is met with zero tolerance, it will grow and British Jews will increasingly question their place in their own country. Britain’s Jews must be shown that they are not alone.”
Around 269,000 Jewish people live in the UK, or 0.4 percent of the British population, according to CAA.
The survey also found that one in 10 people (11 percent) claimed Jews were not as honest in business as other people, while one in five believed their loyalty to Israel made UK Jewish citizens less loyal to the UK, and 10 percent of all surveyed said they would be unhappy if a relative married a Jewish person.
Last year, police recorded a record number of anti-Semitic attacks.
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles told the Daily Mail: “Jews are an important part of the British community, and we would be diminished without them.
“Anyone who peddles anti-Semitic views is attacking Britain and British values. This government has done much to enhance Britain’s status as a safe, tolerant place for Jewish people but we are not complacent. We remain committed to tackling it wherever and whenever it occurs and continue to take a zero-tolerance approach.”
To get the perspective of Jews living in the UK on the issue, the CAA polled British Jews in a separate survey. Of the 2,230 people polled, 54 percent said they feared they had no future in the UK and a quarter (25 percent) said they have considered leaving the country in the last two years.
It found that 56 percent felt that anti-Semitism now echoes the 1930s, while 58 percent believed Jews may have no long-term future in Europe. In addition, around 45 percent felt their family was threatened by Islamist extremism, while 63 percent thought authorities let too much anti-Semitism go unpunished.
A member of the CAA campaign, Jonathan Sacerdoti, responded: “Jewish people have contributed to almost every part of British life, yet rising anti-Semitism here and across Europe means that now more than ever Jews are afraid. Some are even reconsidering their future here.
“British values of tolerance and pluralism must be upheld, so that minority groups like Jews feel comfortable and protected.”
