Researchers at the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences discovered that the side effects of the drug Mitoxantrone could be reduced when the chemotherapeutic agent is infused with liposomic nanocarriers, which are created with cholesterol derivatives, IRNA reported on Tuesday. Mitoxantrone is a cancer drug that disrupts DNA synthesis and DNA repair in both healthy cells and cancer cells, and is used to treat certain types of cancer such as metastatic breast cancer, acute myeloid leukemia, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The produced “nanoliposomes,” apart from being stable to pH changes in blood plasma, have proven to be more poisonous to cancer cells than to normal cells, which would reduce the required dosage and side effects, said head of the research team Dr. Saeed Qanbarzadeh. The most common side effects of Mitoxantrone, which hinder its wider spread use, are nausea, vomiting, hair loss, heart damage, and immunosuppression. Source |

Attack on language as word “thug” declared racist, despite Obama, black Mayor and City Council President using it. A city councilman in Baltimore dropped the N word on live TV after becoming irate that a CNN host argued that labeling violent rioters and looters “thugs” was a correct use of language. An angry Carl Stokes said that CNN’s Erin Burnett should “just call them n*ggers. Just call them n*ggers,” when she attempted to explain that the word “thug” was a justified description. “No, it’s not the right word to call our children ‘thugs,’” Stokes said, when Burnett brought up the point.. “These are children who have been set aside, marginalized, who have not been engaged by us.” “But how does that justify what they did?” Burnett argued. “That’s a sense of right and wrong. They know it’s wrong to steal and burn down a CVS and an old persons’ home. I mean, come on.” “No, we don’t have to call them by names such as that. We don’t have to do that. That is exactly what we’ve sent them to. When you say, ‘Come on,’ come on what? You wouldn’t call your child a thug if they should do something that would not be what you expect them to do.” “I respect your point of view,” Burnett replied. “I would hope that I would call my son a thug if he ever did such a thing.” The clear insinuation is that the use of the word ‘thug’ is a racist term. This is despite the fact that even the President used the word in his Tuesday address on the Baltimore troubles. Obama described the rioters as “criminals and thugs” who he said were exploiting the death of Freddie Gray. The response was remarkable, drawing Orwellian language police out of the woodwork. As Newsbusters notes, following leftist media attempts to denounce the President’s use of the word, the AP even eliminated it from their transcript of Obama’s speech. The Twitter universe responded with outrage, labeling Obama an ‘Uncle Tom’ and a ‘Nigga’. The idea that the word ‘thug’ is somehow racist was initially raised by Ahmir Khalib Thompson, better known as Questlove, drummer and leader of The Roots, the house band for the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. It has since been touted by Red Flag News, Salon, Huffington Post, CBS News and a host of other leftist news sites as the new “code word” for the “N” word. Thompson took offense to Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s use of the word in a press conference Monday. The Mayor has since backtracked and been forced to apologise for using the T-word, as it has been labeled by the language police. “We don’t have thugs in Baltimore,” Rawlings-Blake said. “Sometimes my own little anger translator gets the best of me. … They’re going to regret what they’ve done, but it’s too late.” The president of the Baltimore City Council also apologized Tuesday for calling rioters “thugs”, re-branding those responsible for the violence as “misdirected” youths. Those who disagree that the word thug means anything other than ‘violent individual’ hit back: Michael Brown, the former under secretary of Homeland Security to President George W. Bush, noted the hypocrisy in the use of terms such as ‘Thug life’, according to the ‘new rule': Watch Alex Jones break down the origin of the word “thug”, and how those declaring it to be ‘racist’ are literally engaging in an attack on language to forward their agenda, devoid of any intellectual prowess. Last month over 170 000 Saudi citizens were arrested, sent to exile or even revoked citizenship by Saudi security forces. Saudi king within the invasion of neighboring Yemen has widened detention of dissidents across the country. Shiites and opposite to Wahhabists Sunni groups became target of “unlimited detention” law. Saudi authorities fear outbreak of civil protests. There are almost 10 million foreign workers from different country of Middle East and Asia. Mostly foreign workers are mistreated. They are often beaten, have low wage. There are even cases of murder of Ethiopian workers in public places. Worldwide human rights activists have not yet evaluated the arbitrariness of Saudi intelligence. America’s leading organizations for the protection of Human Rights – Human Rights Watch, keeps silent probably because it is lose to the US Congress – ally to the Riyadh authorities. Source |

Varoufakis said in a statement on Wednesday that he and his spouse, Danae Stratou, were assaulted the night before during a dinner outing in Athens’ Exarchia area, a district popular with anarchists. According to the minister, the group of some 30 masked youths came into the restaurant, demanded that he leave the area and threw glass objects at them. Varoufakis said that some of the group members moved in a threatening manner against him; however, his wife interfered so that the attackers could not hit him. No one was injured in the incident. “Their purpose, I think, was not physically attack us, because if they wanted to injure me, they had every chance as they outnumbered us. I think they wanted to force me to escape,” said Varoufakis. Then “they retreated fast continuing their curses and threats, got out of the courtyard and waited for us outside the restaurant,” Varoufakis added. The minister spoke with the group outside the restaurant and tempers were reportedly calmed. Varoufakis stated that the group was more interested in embarrassing him than causing any harm, although the statement did not go into details on what prompted the incident. Anarchists in Athens’ Exarchia area reportedly often cause disorder, clashing with authorities and rallying against the country’s establishment. Outspoken Varoufakis has garnered support in Greece for voicing opposition against austerity policies; however, he has also received criticism for his brash style. Varoufakis has long been a strong critic of Greece’s bailout program and has never ceased to criticize Europe’s austerity policy with regard to the world’s financial crisis. Greece nearly went bankrupt in 2010. It survived, however, on international rescue packages. Athens has received EUR 240 billion (USD 330 billion) in international loans in return for the enforcement of austerity measures. Source |

Dan Fredinburg, 33, was part of the Jagged Globe expedition team that was tackling Mount Everest when the 7.9-magnidue quake shook Nepal, according to Jagged Globe and his family. He died of fatal head injury. Fredinburg headed the Google X research lab, which is in charge of developing projects like self-driving cars, drone deliveries, Google Glass, and contact lenses. Fredinburg’s sister posted the news of her brother’s death on social media. The manager’s former girlfriend actress Sophia Bush also published an emotional post on Instagram. An army spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that a mountaineering team from the Indian military had discovered 18 bodies on Mount Everest on Saturday. Tom Taplin, 61, was making a documentary about the Mount Everest base camp when the avalanche hit. A spokesman for the Nepal Tourism Ministry, Gyanendra Shrestha said that two tents at the camp have been filled with wounded climbers. The Tourism ministry added that about 1,000 climbers, including around 400 foreigners, were present at base camp or were climbing Everest when the earthquake struck. The first helicopter rescue mission has airlifted injured climbers from the base camp at Mount Everest. The Nepal Mountaineering Association has confirmed that 100 climbers who were above base camp numbers one and two when the earthquake struck are safe, Reuters reports. However, the association added that it has been difficult to evacuate the climbers because the Icefall route back to the base camps has been damaged. Around 300,000 foreign tourists come to Nepal each spring for activities like climbing, trekking and hiking, according to Reuters. Those climbers who survived were pleading for help. Romanian mountaineer Alex Gavan was urging the authorities to support the rescue mission with helicopters: “Many dead. Much more badly injured. More to die if not heli asap.” Carsten Lillelund Pedersen, a Danish climber, said there were at least 40 people being treated for injuries, adding that the avalanches were hitting the mountain one after the other. It was “difficult to see the following avalanches, and there are so many – maybe one every 5 min. – that I have stopped counting,” Pedersen said on Facebook. Communication remains difficult, as the network is down in the area. “It is almost impossible to get in touch with anyone,” said the joint secretary for the Nepalese Tourism Ministry, Mohan Krishna Sapkota. Many people have turned to social media in asking for help in locating their relatives who travelled to Nepal. They have posted pictures of the missing people with their descriptions. Others have said they will travel to Nepal themselves, believing they can be more productive on the ground. Officials are reportedly being overwhelmed by the number of calls they are receiving from friends and relatives of foreign nationals whose whereabouts are unknown. Meanwhile, those who experienced the quake in the Nepalese capital said the streets were filled with screaming people: “We were thrown around the room fairly comprehensively, we managed to get out. From where we were, we could see dust rising from the hills of Kathmandu, we could people screaming in the street,” Mark South from the International Red Cross told UK’s Channel 4 News. Many people in Nepal are choosing to sleep outside, due to the fear of aftershocks. The death toll has risen to 1,805 and another 4,718 people have been injured as a result of the Nepal earthquake, an unnamed official from Nepal’s Home Ministry told Reuters. Local authorities are scrambling to set up rescue missions, warning that the number of those killed could rise. The number of fatalities from the earthquake in India has reached 36 people, according to Reuters. Tremors were also felt in Chinese Tibet where 12 people were killed, with four deaths also recorded in Bangladesh. Two Chinese citizens are said to have died at the Nepal-China border. At least 47 Australians are unaccounted for in Nepal, Channel 9 reported citing an unconfirmed count by the International Red Cross. Canada’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said that 388 Canadians were registered in Nepal at the time of the quake. However, they warned that registration is only voluntary, meaning that the actual number could be a lot higher. Dozens of Britons are also missing, according to local media. Moreover, ten out of a total of 45 Czech tourists are still missing in Nepal following Saturday’s earthquake, a spokeswoman for the Czech Foreign Ministry, Michaela Lagronova said. Google has created a person finder page for the Nepal disaster, where people can either list a missing person, or provide information of someone’s whereabouts. It is currently tracking about 2,500 records of missing or found people, which can be searched by sending an SMS with the name of a person to Indian or US numbers. Facebook also added a feature, allowing anyone to mark themselves as being “safe during Nepal Earthquake.” Source |
