Gyft has released new details about its 'gift cards 2.0' project that seeks to enable digital card trading on the bitcoin blockchain. Announced at Belfast's MoneyConf, the company revealed Gyft is working with Chain on key components of the initiative.

Blockchain tech could reduce banks' infrastructural costs by $15-20bn a year by 2022, a new report from Santander InnoVentures claims. The paper, produced with Oliver Wyman and Anthemis Group, says distributed ledger technology could help banks eliminate central authorities and bypass slow, expensive payment networks.

Bitcoin mining pool BTC Guild is shutting down later this month, and its operator has cited the BitLicense finalization as a major factor. Pperator Eleuthria cited the finalization of the BitLicense as a primary motivator for shutting down, stating that BTC Guild could not afford the legal gray area.

MovieTickets.com is now enabling movie-goers to exchange bitcoin for tickets to films at more than 900 US theaters. As part of the announcement, the indie hit 'Dope' has indicated it will support the measure, becoming the first film to accept bitcoin payments.

MonetaGo, a new exchange with ambitions to take bitcoin "global", launched across 40 countries today. First announced in April, the platform offers bitcoin buying and selling in 28 local currencies. As a twist, MonetaGo users can also 'fix' or 'peg' their bitcoin to these various exchange rates.

Switzerland's bitcoin community has spoken out following confirmation that bitcoin is exempt from Value Added Tax. Luzius Meisser, president at Bitcoin Association Switzerland, told CoinDesk that bitcoin's VAT exemption was clarified following a formal question submitted by his group in February last year.
