Azerbaijan: Birthday protest combines celebration with call to action
Today, ARTICLE 19, as part of the Sport for Rights campaign and alongiside a total 40 protests worldwide, is participating in a rally outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in London to celebrate the recent release of Khadija Ismayilova. Khadija is a leading Azerbaijani investigative journalist and together we call for her full acquittal, and the release of all other political prisoners. Kenya: Protester killings must lead to end of police violence
ARTICLE 19 strongly condemns the killing of three protestors and injuring many others in protests on 23 May. Two protestors were fatally shot, and one other person died in what doctors suspected was the result of having banged his head on the ground while fleeing police violence. Read more >
STATEMENT Kazakhstan: Crackdown on Peaceful Protest Continues
ARTICLE 19 strongly condemns the Kazakh authorities’ detention of at least 370 peace protesters in nine cities on 21 May 2016, as well as the harassment and arrest of journalists covering the protests. Brazil: Important step forward for the Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet
One of the last actions of Dilma Rousseff as President prior to her removal was the publication of Decree 8771 regulating the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet.
