Il 10 maggio 1941 l'alto gerarca nazista, volò in Scozia per una missione segreta. Secondo il settimanale «Der Spiegel» cercava l'alleanza o la neutralità di Londra nella guerra contro la Russia. Fu poi condannato all'ergastolo a Norimberga e si suicidò nel 1987 a 93 anni, portando nella tomba il suo segreto
