US Government Awards $600k in Grants for Blockchain Projects - 

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded as much as $600,000 in grants to companies working on blockchain applications for the government. The funds came from the agency's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, following a solicitation period that began in December.

One of Japan's Largest Banks is Downplaying its Rumored Digital Currency Plans - 

Is a major Japanese bank developing its own digital currency? Following a report that suggested Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ could release such a product next year, the bank has downplayed the idea.
