The Difficult Struggle of Christians in the Orient
Just moments after the new year began, a bomb outside a church in
Alexandria killed 21 Coptic Christians. A week later, a Pakistani
governor was murdered for standing by a Christian convict. The two
cases dramatically illustrate the worsening plight of Christians in the
Orient. By SPIEGEL Staff

Germans Angered by Christian Persecution
Many Germans voiced outrage following the New Year's Eve terrorist
attack on Coptic Christians in Alexandria. But despite the strong words,
critics argue that Germany could do more to help Christians seeking
asylum.

Shutting the Back Door to Fortress Europe
Greece wants to erect a fence on its border with Turkey to stop illegal

Portugal Fights Desperately to Regain Trust
Portugal succeeded in raising more than a billion euros in a Wednesday
bond issue. The country's leaders are praising the success, but
investors remain skeptical. Despite lower-than-feared interest rates on
Portuguese debts, the country will likely have to request an EU bailout
soon.

'Europe Has to Stop Appearing Like a Headless Chicken'
The good news is that Portugal and Spain have both held successful bond
sales this week. The bad news is that the European Commission and
euro-zone leaders appear hopelessly divided on the size of the euro-zone
rescue fund. German papers on Thursday decry the continuing lack of
unity in the midst of the debt crisis.

KEEPING DATA PRIVA
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why 'Web Erasers' Can't Work
At the invitation of the German government, an IT professor has
introduced software that allows people to set an expiration date for
photos they post on Facebook or other sites. What it can't do, however,
is prevent others from copying or stealing a person's personal data and
posting it wherever they want on the Internet.
