Zhuravlyov's March: An 'Authorized' Walk Through Yekaterinburg
A Yekaterinburg man has found a novel way of parodying Russia's restrictive new law on demonstrations -- by complying with it. More The son of Russia's most recognizable "prisoner of conscience," Mikhail Khodorkovsky, talks with RFE/RL's Russian Service on the occasion of his father's 49th birthday. More Several arrests have already been made since a controversial law targeting homosexuals came into effect in St. Petersburg three months ago. Many fear the law -- which punishes the propaganda of homosexuality among minors -- heralds a return to repressive Soviet-era measures against Russia's already marginalized homosexual community. More It may be home to the government and parliament. It may be the largest city. It may be the most important political and financial center. It may be home to many of the country's iconic landmarks and best-known monuments. But if you want to start a business in Russia, stay away from Moscow. More Russian police say they have opened criminal investigations following a conflict between village locals and migrants from the North Caucasus in the Kirov region, in the central part of European Russia. More Immigrants from across the former Soviet Union took to the streets on June 24 during New York City’s gay pride parade to raise awareness of rights violations that gays face in Russia. More Is Russian politics as centralized as we think? Or is Vladimir Putin's power vertical largely a myth? More Kudos to Jacob Evan Lassin. The soon-to-be (we assume) graduate of the College of William and Mary has written a compelling thesis on Russia and the "myths and memories" of the country's involvement in World War II. More Russia's NTV television channel says it will air a controversial film critical of Soviet troops on June 22, the anniversary of Nazi Germany's 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union. Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky has asked NTV not to show the film, saying this would insult World War II veterans. More Like all iconic figures who die young, Viktor Tsoi remains frozen in time -- a reminder of a more hopeful era. More The captain and star of Russia's national soccer team, Andrei Arshavin, has come in for a firestorm of criticism from politicians and others back home over remarks he made after Russia crashed out early from the Euro 2012 championship.
