UN HRC: 58 NGOs warn of harmful impact of “countering and preventing violent extremism”
ARTICLE 19 has been joined by more than 50 other leading international and national civil society organisations in calling on the UN Human Rights Council to consider serious concerns around certain initiatives around “countering and preventing violent extremism”. ICANN Board agrees to human rights commitment
The ICANN Board has agreed with the Cross Community Working Group on improving ICANN’s accountability that a commitment to respect human rights should be part of ICANN’s by-laws. This is part of a process during which the oversight of ICANN is transitioning from the US Government’s Department of Commerce to the global Internet community. In the fight against terrorism, democratic societies must not renounce their own ideals
In Bidart v. France, a judgment pronounced on 12 November 2015, on the eve of the attacks which struck the heart of Paris, the European Court of Human Rights analysed how France had restricted the freedom expression in the context of an individual with terrorism-related convictions. The case involved a man partaking in a peaceful demonstration, who had been released on parole after being sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism-related activities.
