Russia: Federal laws introducing ban of propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships
In this analysis, ARTICLE 19 calls on the Upper Chamber of the Russian Federal Assembly (the Federation Council) and the President of the Russian Federation to reject the Bill passed by the State Duma which seeks to amend several federal laws, including the Code of Administrative Offenses, in order to introduce a ban on so-called ‘propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships’ (the Bill).

Myanmar: Public service media needed but proposed bill inadequate
Establishing a genuine public service media is desperately needed in Myanmar to provide an independent, impartial and balanced source of information, and to encourage pluralism. Unfortunately, the proposed bill on public service media would if adopted continue state control of the media and the disenfranchisement of ethnic minorities. ARTICLE 19 urges parliament to make significant changes before adopting it.

Italy: Urgent need to reform defamation laws
In a letter to the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, ARTICLE 19 calls for full decriminalization of defamation and for the revision of Draft Bill No. 925 (Costa). Although the Draft Bill is a positive move towards reform of Italian defamation legislation, it is insufficient to protect freedom of expression. We also call on the Italian Parliament to grant amnesty to all journalists convicted for defamation.
