PACE: Resolution on massive eavesdropping in Europe
We, the undersigned representatives of international and
national human rights and freedom of expression organisations - ARTICLE
19, Reporters Without Borders, Privacy International, EDRI, Vrijschrift,
Open Rights Group, INDEX, English PEN and Access Now - strongly urge
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to support
the Resolution, Massive Eavesdropping in Europe, tabled on 31 July 2013

Russia: ‘Keep Hope Alive’ campaign launched ahead of G20
ARTICLE 19 has joined together with Russian and International human rights groups to launch the ‘Keep Hope Alive’ campaign.
We are asking world leaders to challenge Russia about the deteriorating human rights situation in the country ahead of the
G20 meeting that will take place in St Petersburg on 5th and 6th September.

STATEMENT
Concern over Mexican Constitutional Revisions on Right to Information
ARTICLE 19 remains concerned over proposed amendments to the Mexican
Constitution that would undermine transparency in Mexico. Over the past
year, the Mexican Congress has been considering amendments to the
Constitution which would enhance transparency by extending the Federal
Transparency Law to political parties, unions and other bodies that
receive government funding, enhance the autonomy of the Federal
Commission for Information and Data Protection (IFAI), and improve
transparency at state level. These positive changes were approved by the
Senate in December 2012.

STATEMENT
Pakistan: Network level filtering must go
ARTICLE 19 is deeply concerned by reports that the Pakistan Ministry of
Information Technology’s recently issued a statement announcing that
they had ‘resolved’ the issue of the YouTube ban by installing Internet
filters. Far from offering a viable solution, internet filtering poses
significant threats to freedom of expression online.

Pioneering artists from three contrasting countries unite to create an
innovative exhibition of new work exploring our contemporary attitudes
to Europe. Bringing together new voices from Turkey, Algeria and the UK,
Reframe invites nine emerging artists to use their distinctive styles
and viewpoints to 'reframe' perspectives through a series of new graphic
short stories that examine the cultural, social and political dynamics
between Europe and each of the participating countries.

Man of the Year
Rouhani’s cabinet has received a strong seal of approval from the
conservative-dominated Majles, with 15 of 18 proposed cabinet members
being approved after four days of debate and scrutiny last week. Three
of Rouhani’s nominations were rejected, including Mohammad Ali Najafi
and Jafar Mili Monfared – apparently frowned upon for their past support
for opposition leaders Mousavi and Karroubi.
