Scientists from a NASA-funded research team performed a computer modeling of Ganymede’s oceans, taking into account for the first time how salt increases the density of liquids under extreme conditions that exist on the planet. Ganymede is the largest moon in our solar system and is bigger than the planet Mercury, with a diameter of about 5,300 kilometers. NASA first suspected there might be an ocean on Ganymede in the 1970s. Then, in the 1990s, NASA’s Galileo spacecraft mission flew by Ganymede, confirming it did have an ocean extending to depths of hundreds of miles. The Galileo mission also found evidence of salty seas, which may contain magnesium sulfate. Scientists then thought Ganymede had a thick ocean sandwich between just two layers of ice. However, the new research suggests there may be more layers than that. The research first appeared last year in the journal Planetary and Space Science and was led by Steve Vance of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. “Ganymede’s ocean might be organized like a Dagwood sandwich,” said Vance. Ganymede boasts a lot of water, perhaps 25 times the volume of the earth’s oceans. The moon’s oceans are also estimated to be up to 800 kilometers deep. The makeup of its deep oceans could be something like a layer of ice at the top, a layer of water below that, then a second layer of ice, followed by another layer of water, then a layer of ice and a final layer of water at the bottom. “This is good news for Ganymede. Its ocean is huge, with enormous pressures, so it was thought that dense ice had to form at the bottom of the ocean. When we added salts to our models, we came up with liquids dense enough to sink to the sea floor,” said Vance. Salty water sloshing about on top of rock may provide conditions suitable for microbial life. Some scientists have predicted that life on Earth may have formed in bubbling thermal vents on the ocean floor. Ganymede is just one of five moons in our solar system thought to support vast oceans hidden beneath icy crusts. The others are Jupiter’s Europa and Callisto, and Saturn’s Titan and Enceladus. The European Space Agency is developing a mission to visit Europa, Callisto, and Ganymede. The mission is currently scheduled for a 2022 launch, and is expected to reach Jupiter in 2030. NASA plans to contribute instruments to it. Source |

Many Greek-Americans naively assume that the Greek Politicians running Greece are simply “mismanaging” Greece. They assume that what has happened to Greece is the result of “poor business decisions” rather than a calculated planned destruction of our national autonomy. They want to assume that every Greek means well regardless of these “mistakes”. This video will prove them wrong. This video above made in the EU parliament in 2011 is of former LAOS member and current New Democracy MEP Niki Tzavela swearing her submission to EU International Loan Sharks, saying that if Greece must burn, so be it. Keep in mind that this is a statement from the supposed “Conservative” and “Patriotic” wing of the Greek political sprectrum. One may be wondering, “How could any Greek politician openly speak about their country like this?” To understand that one must realize the arrogance of the Samaras-Venizelos Junta who have grown accustomed to the fact that most Greeks won’t pay attention. They have been doing this for almost 40 years and taking advantage of apolitical Greeks who say “I don’t believe in politics” who wouldn’t sit and watch hours of Euro Parliament speeches. As Pericles once said, those who have no interest in politics, may one day find politics taking an interest in them. Now almost 3 years later, the result of this is clearly seen. Now more and more people are paying attention and the people’s nationalist movement continues to rise. It is important to spread this to our people to destroy any doubt about these supposed “conservatives” goals. These are not bumbling fools who cannot manage Greek finance, rather as in the case of Niki Tzavela, these are American educated economists, determined to wreck our patrida and make us slaves! In January the Satanic Temple announced plans to erect a monument glorifying the Dark Lord on the front lawn of the Oklahoma Statehouse. An Indiegogo campaign was launched with what seemed like a somewhat lofty goal of $20,000, but by the time donations ended almost $30,000 had been raised. Now an artist trained in classical sculpture is toiling away in New York, crafting a Baphomet figure sitting beneath an inverted pentagram and flanked by two children gazing upward in loyalty. When it is finished, it will be cast in bronze and, the Satanists hope, eventually displayed in Oklahoma. The statue is a direct response to the state’s installation of a Ten Commandments monument outside the Capitol in 2012. State Representative Mike Ritze paid for the controversial statue with his own money, and therefore it was considered a donation and OK to place on government property. Following that line of reasoning, the Satanic Temple submitted a formal application for their monument. As Trait Thompson of the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission told CNN last December, “Individuals and groups are free to apply to place a monument or statue or artwork.” The applications are then approved or rejected by the Commission. Unfortunately, the state has placed a halt on issuing permits for any other monuments until a lawsuit filed by the ACLU against Ritze’s Commandments monument is settled. Source |

Citing an unnamed source close to Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport, Russian daily newspaper Kommersant, wrote on Monday that Damascus will receive nine aircraft until the end of 2014, and in the next two years, 12 and 15 respectively. “We will fulfill obligations under a previously signed contract for the supply of 36 Yak-130 jets,” the source pointed out. Last June, Kommersant reported that Syria had paid some $100 million as an advance payment to Russia for the first six Yak-130 jets under a $550-million deal signed in December 2011. All 36 Yak-130 fighter jets were reportedly ready at the time, waiting only for a political decision to install engines and avionics, and then to be sent to Syria. Russia has repeatedly stated that it only supplied Syria with defensive weapons without violating international law. The Yak-130 is a twin-engine combat trainer jet that can also be used to attack ground targets. It is able to replicate characteristics of several of 4+ generation fighters. The military aircraft can also perform light-attack missions and reconnaissance duties, and can carry a combat load of 3,000 kilograms. Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Over 150,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies, especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. Source |

President Vladimir Putin has overseen military drills on countering nuclear strike. The planned drills come ahead of the May 9 celebrations dedicated to victory in World War II. “We are carrying out tests of the readiness of the Russian armed forces. It was announced last November. The exercises will involve all branches of the armed forces across the country,” Putin told reporters at the Defense Ministry. Modern challenges and threats to the country’s national security demand that the army and the fleet are maintained in readiness for quick and effective retaliation in any conditions, the Russian Defense Minister and army general Sergey Shoigu told Putin in a report. During the drills, it was demonstrated how the missile corps, artillery, aviation and anti-aircraft defenses can be used for instance, to destroy troops on the ground or to counter massive missile, aviation or nuclear strikes by an enemy. Plus, it was shown how to inflict a launch-through-attack strike with nuclear missiles. The training exercises, which are due to include ground troops and artillery as well as the air force, were held during a summit of heads of state of a security bloc made up of former Soviet states. Led by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian aerospace defense troops have successfully overridden a massive nuclear missile strike, an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti news agency. “At the Priozersk training area (Kazakhstan), a successful interception of a ballistic target by a short-range countermissile was carried out. A massive rocket nuclear strike was repelled by a ballistic missile defense unit of air and missile defense troops,” the representative said. The representative also detailed that the combat crews of Armies of Aerospace Defense have discovered and accompanied the ballistic targets with the launch of a short-range interception missile of the Amur complex. “The anti-missile system successfully struck the target that imitated a ballistic rocket,” the representative added. The strategic weapon carrier Tu-95MC conducted launches of six cruise missiles aiming at targets on the ground in the aviation training area of the Western military district, as part of the drills. The simulated targets were key facilities of military infrastructure of a hypothetical enemy. All the targets were hit as planned, Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed. The presidents of Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan observed the drills from the Russian National Defense Command Center. Strategic bomber aircraft and underwater missile carriers of the Pacific and Northern fleets were involved in the drills. Also, strategic land-based mobile missile systems, as well as the missile corps of the Southern and Central military districts, participated in the tests. Source |
