Up to 15,000 people have marched against “asylum cheats” in anti-Islamization rally in Dresden, Germany. The group’s protests are attracting bigger crowds every week since its first rally in October, which gathered just a few hundred people.
Nationalist activists carried banners reading “Zero tolerance towards criminal asylum seekers”, “Protect our homeland” and “Stop the Islamisation”.
They chanted: “If you don’t love Germany, leave it” and “We’re the people” (German: “Wir sind das Volk”).
“Muslims are plotting to infect our food chain with their excrement,” one of the participants told the Guardian.
“Asylum seekers in Germany have expensive mobile phones, while I cannot afford such luxury and others still cannot afford to eat properly,” added a middle-aged woman.
The organizer of the event, Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the Occident (PEGIDA) is gathering momentum to protest plans to add 14 centers for roughly 2,000 refugees in the eastern city of Dresden.
“The people are with us!” PEGIDA founder Lutz Bachmann addressed the crowd of people who were either waving or draped in German flags, “Everywhere now, in every news rag, on every senseless talk show, they are debating, and the most important thing is: the politicians can no longer ignore us!”
According to demonstrators Michael Stuerzenberger, “70 percent of people claiming political asylum here are economic refugees. We don’t want to stay silent about this anymore.”
“We don’t want a flood of asylum seekers, we don’t want Islamization. We want to keep our country with our values. Is that so terrible? Does that make us Nazis? Is it a crime to be a patriot?” he told AFP.
In the meantime, about 6,000 communist antifa opponents of PEGIDA organized a counter-demonstration the same day. They were carrying banners, saying “Dresden Nazi-free” and “Dresden for All”.
Anti-Islamization protesters also gathered for the rally dubbed BOGIDA the city of Bonn.
On their Facebook page, the group described the demonstration as a “peaceful evening stroll against Salafists in Bonn, the Islamization of the occident and misled refugee and immigrant policy in Germany.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has slammed the anti-Islamization march, warning the people of falling into the hands of xenophobia.
“Of course there’s freedom to demonstrate in Germany,” Merkel said, “But it’s no place for agitation and mud-slinging against people who come to us from other countries.”
“That’s why everyone should watch out that they aren’t being used as instruments by the initiators of an event like this,” she added.
PEGIDA’s initial march drew just a few hundred people in October. The demonstration on Monday, December 1 attracted 7,500.
The following Monday saw at least 10,000 take to the streets of Dresden. The protesters said they want to preserve Germany’s Judeo-Christian Western culture and curb the spread of Islamic State and Al-Qaeda activities in the EU.

PEGIDA distances itself from neo-Nazi groups in Germany. On its Facebook page, it says German children “can grow up in a cosmopolitan and friendly nation” and it “refuses to allow the spread of activities by groups such as the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda in Europe.”
Anti-Islam rallies were held in Cologne, Hanover, Kassel, and Chemnitz.
Germany is the second most-favored destination after the US for refugees and asylum seekers, says a report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In 2013, more than 450,000 people came to Germany as migrants.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.
The EU foreign policy chief says Brussels has agreed to impose new sanctions against Crimea, stressing the bloc will not recognize its reunification with the Russian Federation.
Federica Mogherini made the announcement on Monday after the first meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in the EU’s de facto capital, Brussels.
The new sanctions set to be announced on December 18 will reportedly include forbidding EU firms from investing in the region and prohibiting the trade of EU oil and gas exploration technologies.
In addition, Mogherini said that during the council meeting the EU confirmed that it plans not to ever recognize Crimea’s integration with the Russian Federation.
The EU has already imposed a number of sanctions against Crimean, Russian and other pro-Russia figures following a decision by Ukraine’s then autonomous region of Crimea to re-join the Russian Federation earlier this year.
Crimea declared independence from Ukraine on March 17 and formally applied to become part of Russia following a referendum a day earlier in which 96.8 percent of the participants voted in favor of the secession. The voter turnout in the referendum stood at 83.1 percent.
The reunification fuelled pro-Russian protests in the eastern regions of Ukraine. The Western-backed Kiev government launched military operations in mid-April to silence the protests.
Violence intensified in May after the eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions held local referendums in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine.
According to a newly-released report by the United Nations, more than 4,700 civilians have been killed and over 10,000 others injured during the violence.
Kiev and pro-Russia forces recently agreed to stop fighting under the terms of a ceasefire brokered by Russia.

Emerging from shoes, lying undetected in toilets, waiting patiently in cars and on walls, native wildlife has earned Australia the tag of a country brimming with deadly creatures.
Emerging from shoes, lying undetected in toilets, waiting patiently in cars and on walls, native wildlife has earned Australia the tag of a country brimming with deadly creatures.
In many cases, this reputation is well-earned, with countless cases of bites, stings, and close encounters with the nation’s creepiest of crawlies.
Images of the poisonous and many-legged creatures have started to pack a frightful punch overseas, with many US citizens expressing their fear of travelling to Australia because of what they might find hidden in their shoes.
An Australian redback spider made a home in this shoe (above), complete with a spiderweb.
A thread on Reddit, entitled ‘In Australia, this is why we wear shoes’, has sparked a long list of tales about the many encounters posters have had with finding an unexpected surprise in their backyard.
The users labelled the pictures ‘horrifying’, ‘terrifying’, ‘scary’ and worthy of cancelling trips to country.
The terror isn’t surprising, given that Australian funnel web spiders are capable of penetrating the material in shoes and finding their way into dark places with little effort.
As the country inches towards January and humidity peaks, huntsmen spiders will be out in force and keeping locals on their toes.
Funnel web spiders are the most venomous the many spider varieties found in Australia, with the male spider’s venom almost six times more toxic than the females.

This Reddit user spotted the egg of a spider laying in wait inside his shoe, and decided to let it hatch before burning the spider, and his shoe with it.

Especially during the summer months as the weather gets warmer, snakes and spiders will become bolder at making a home inside shoes and other dark spots as the look for a mate.
While there hasn’t been a spider-related death in Australia since 1979, there is still plenty to be scared of, especially among those living in the US.
While many of the posters found the native creatures hiding out amusing, one Reddit user posted, ‘Funny in Australia = Horrifying everywhere else.’
Others shared tales of horror they had heard of about the creepy crawlies found in the sunburnt country.
Julia Sotoul let a spider crawl all over her in Yeppoon on the central coast of Queensland.

This bite is believed to have been caused by a brown reclusive spider’s venom.
The gruesome picture above is believed to have been caused by a white tail spider bite.
‘I remember watching a documentary on animal planet when I was really young about Australia and deadly animals. Guy forgot to check his shoe and lost his leg thanks to some spider f**ker,’ posted one user.
Others reacted to the gory pictures of spider and snake bites, saying ‘Never visit Australia’, ‘Your country is hell. Burn it all down’, ‘Everything in Australia is trying to kill you’, and ‘This isn’t funny. This is “OH GOD NO”.
One user in the US said ‘Join us in America! Bears and cougars are too big to hide in your shoe.’
Even Australians jumped on the bandwagon of fear, advising that shoes and dark places should always be checked in case there were any stowaways making an item home.
‘If you think an Aussie critter is cute, odds are they still probably want to kill you. One way or another,’ claimed one user.
‘How are you guys still alive?’ asked one user.
The quick reply was ‘We check our shoes first. Obviously.’
So bang your shoes, shake out your rugs, check underneath the toilet seat, and beware.

The US contractor for Iron Dome is Raytheon.
The US Senate has approved a multi-billion-dollar military spending bill that includes $350 million for Israel’s Iron Dome missile system.
The Senate passed the bill on Friday by a 89-11 vote.
The bill was sent to the White House for President Barack Obama’s signature.
The 2015 defense authorization bill also authorized $521.3 billion for Defense Department operations, and about $64 billion for overseas military operations.
The House of Representatives last week approved the National Defense Authorization Act by a 300-119 vote.
Five billion dollars are allocated for the fight against the ISIL terrorist group. The money should be spent for the training and arming of the so-called moderate rebels in Syria for two years and for the training and assisting of Iraqi and Kurdish forces.
Earlier this month, US Vice President Joe Biden announced that the Obama administration had provided Israel with more than $17 billion in military aid since 2008.
In November, the US Department of Defense announced plans to arm Israel with 3,000 smart bombs as part of Washington’s military aid to Tel Aviv.
The United States provides Israel with some $8.5 million in military aid per day, adding up to over $3 billion annually.

Reading emails on your skin may sound wacky, but not for the French designers working on a bracelet that projects your smartphone content onto your arm. To turn the surreal Cicret device into reality, the designers are seeking funding.
A video explaining how the device works has gone viral, racking up 4,222,427 views on YouTube at the time of this article’s publication. The Cicret website says the designers are still working on the prototype of the waterproof bracelet that promises to “make your skin your new tablet.”
“Don’t trust any website selling it yet,” they warn.
The Cicret, activated with a twist of the wrist, is equipped with an embedded memory card, processor, accelerometer, micro USB port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But the key part is the so-called “pico-projector” and an array of proximity sensors. The pico projector projects the interface onto your arm. When you put your finger on the interface, you stop one of eight proximity sensors. The sensor sends the information back to the processor in your Circet bracelet.

“Read your mails, play your favorite games, answer your calls, check the weather, find your way…Do whatever you want on your arm,” they promise.
The idea has drawn its fair share of criticism, as there is no working prototype and no solid guarantees that it will actually be realized.
The inventors say they need €700,000 to finish the first prototype of the bracelet and €300,000 to develop the Cicret App for all platforms. If their crowdsourcing proves successful, the Cicret bracelet is planned to be available in 10 colors and two drive sizes – 16 and 32 GB.

Cicret co-founder, Guillaume Pommier, told Gizmag that the company expects to have the bracelet, conceived a year ago and designed over the course of six months, on the market in about 18 months, with a price tag of up to $400. The first prototype should be ready by late December.
