Why would refugee flows, commerce, and drugs concern NATO? This is an
overbroad scope of matters that might require military intervention. But
in a militarized world, everything impacts planning. That's why these
people feel justified to scrutinize every phone call and email message of
Americans... And the internal affairs of every country impact the
geopolitical strength of the U.S. My, it's such a heavy burden to have to
shoulder! No wonder the military is crying that all these mandated budget
cuts are going to reduce our combat readiness... it takes enormous outlays
of millions, yea, billions, of dollars to be ready to go to war anywhere in
the world where you might have an ally who needs you (or doesn't, but you
deem that they do).

McCain calls for revising relations with Russia
US Senator John McCain disapproves whistleblower Edward Snowden’s newly-acquired asylum, and demands that Washington re-examine its relations with Moscow and `strip away the illusions that many Americans have had about Russia.`
Following the news of Snowden’s one-year asylum status in Russia, McCain released an angry statement in which he condemns the “disgraceful” actions of President Vladimir Putin.
`Russia’s action today is a disgrace and a deliberate effort to embarrass the United States. It is a slap in the face of all Americans. Now is the time to fundamentally rethink our relationship with Putin’s Russia. We need to deal with the Russia that is, not the Russia we might wish for.`
McCain urges his government to act against Russia and seek `repercussions` for granting the 30-year-old whistleblower temporary political asylum. He proceeded to describe the steps the US should take to penalize Moscow in ways unrelated to the Snowden case.
`We should push for the completion of all phases of our missile defense programs in Europe, and move expeditiously on another round of NATO expansion, including the Republic of Georgia,` the statement published on the Senator`s official website says.

LONDON: Britain faced "the deadly power of abused technology," Queen Elizabeth II was to tell the nation in the event of the Cold War turning hot, according to government papers from 1983 and released on Thursday.
The script was drawn up by civil servants as part of a war games exercise, called WINTEX-CIMEX 83, during one of the most tense years of the Cold War.
"Now this madness of war is once more spreading through the world and our brave country must again prepare itself to survive against great odds," the queen was to say.
"We all know that the dangers facing us today are greater by far than at any time in our long history," she was to continue. "The enemy is not the soldier with his rifle nor even the airman prowling the skies above our cities and towns, but the deadly power of abused technology."
It is unlikely that the queen has ever in fact seen the text, which was released by the National Archives along with other government files from 1983.
The Cold War was particularly tense in 1983. US president Ronald Reagan had infuriated the Soviet Union by calling it the "evil empire" and deploying US cruise missiles to Europe.
Tensions worsened when the Soviet Union shot down a South Korean passenger plane, killing 269 people, and described it as a "US provocation."

JERUSALEM, Israel: U.S. European Command and the Israel Defense Forces concluded two concurrent, unrelated military exercises Aug. 1, 2013, that took place over a two-week period in Israel...
Juniper Stallion 13 and Noble Melinda 13 were bilateral exercises held between the U.S. and Israeli air forces and navies respectively. The exercises took place as part of regularly scheduled training between the two nations.
Juniper Stallion 13 was a combined, bilateral F-15/F-16 air-to-air exercise designed to improve the interoperability and cooperation between the U.S. and Israeli air forces. The exercise took place at Nevatim Air Base in southern Israel. Juniper Stallion is held annually, and JS13 was in planning for more than a year.
Noble Melinda 13 was an annual bilateral maritime exercise focusing on explosive ordnance disposal and other underwater operations. The exercise was designed to increase interoperability..This was the 11th year that Noble Melinda occurred, taking place as part of regularly scheduled training between the two nations.
Both the services of both the U.S. European Command the Israel Defense Forces expressed satisfaction with the exercises, viewing them both as an opportunity to expand on an already strong military relationship that has spanned decades.
