1. Jewish Student Injured in Anti-Semitic Attack in Paris
by Elad Benari Jewish Student Injured in Attack in Paris

Eight days after four Jews were murdered in the Otzar Hatorah school in Toulouse, hatred-based violence has hit France again, this time in Paris.

Channel 2 News reported on Tuesday that a student from the Otzar Hatorah campus in the French capital was lightly injured in an attack by anti-Semites.

The report, which cited local authorities in Paris, said the 12-year-old boy fell victim to violence by a group of unknown assailants who ambushed him outside the school and called out anti-Semitic slurs.

The attackers were able to carry out their plan in spite of the increased security around Jewish schools and synagogues in France, following last week’s attack.

The President of the Otzar Hatorah network of schools, Jean-Paul Amoyal, was quoted by Channel 2 as having told news agencies that the student was attacked only 100 meters from the entrance to the school, in an area that was not guarded.

Amoyal added that no suspects have yet been arrested and that their identity is not known.

The latest attack comes a day after French authorities formally launched an investigation into the brother of the Toulouse terrorist, Mohammed Merah, believing he may have been an accessory to the murders.

Abdelkader Merah, the murderer's older brother, is suspected of assisting Mohammed in preparing his attacks. The 29-year-old Abdelkader Merah has allegedly told police that he is “very proud” of his brother for murdering his victims. “I regret nothing for him and approve of what he did,” Abdelkader reportedly told investigators.

Earlier on Monday, intelligence officials confirmed reports that Mohammed Merah spent time in Israel over a year and a half ago.

According to the Shin Bet, Merah entered Israel via the Allenby Bridge from Jordan in September 2010. He was investigated by the Shin Bet – who did not unearth any suspicious information – and he was allowed to enter the country.

Merah’s father said on Monday he planned to sue France over his son’s death, saying, “France is a big country that had the means to take my son alive. They could have knocked him out with gas and taken him in. They preferred to kill him.”

2. Pentagon to Press for More Money for Iron Dome
by Elad Benari Pentagon to Press for More Money for Iron Dome

The Pentagon will press Congress for additional money for the Iron Dome missile defense system, The Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

The announcement from the Pentagon comes as President Barack Obama has faced election-year criticism from Republican presidential candidates and GOP lawmakers that administration support for longtime friend Israel has been inadequate, the report noted.

“Supporting the security of the state of Israel is a top priority of President Obama and Secretary (Leon) Panetta,” AP quoted Pentagon press secretary George Little as having said in a statement.

“The Department of Defense has been in conversations with the government of Israel about U.S. support for the acquisition of additional Iron Dome systems and intends to request an appropriate level of funding from Congress to support such acquisitions based on Israeli requirements and production capacity,” Little added.

The Pentagon’s statement cited the effectiveness of the system, which reportedly intercepted 90 percent of missile attacks on urban centers during the recent escalation in rocket attacks from Gaza towards Israel.

In a special request in the 2011 budget, the Obama administration and Congress agreed on $205 million for the Iron Dome system, AP reported. Obama's budget for next year, according to the report, calls for $3.1 billion in military assistance for Israel, a slight increase over the current level and the most for any foreign country.

The Pentagon statement provided no specific numbers but congressional aides said a possible request would be the purchase of 10 battery systems at a cost of $50 million each.

Congressional Democrats welcomed the Pentagon announcement as a fresh sign of the administration standing with Israel.

“Iron Dome helps give Israel the ability to protect its civilians while giving its leaders the strategic space and time to take the appropriate action to root out terrorists and carefully plan their next steps,” Rep. Steve Rothman, D-N.J., a member of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, was quoted by AP as having said.

Rep. Howard Berman of California, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is a co-sponsor of legislation that would authorize the president to provide aid to Israel to buy additional Iron Dome anti-rocket systems if it requests it.

“Iron Dome is a game changer,” Berman told AP. "The threats Israel faces from incoming, indiscriminate terrorist rocket attacks are countered by this cutting edge anti-missile system. Iron Dome is fundamentally shifting political, diplomatic and military realities on the ground, while saving lives of innocent Israelis. Today's statement is a further step in the right direction.”

On Monday, for the first time since entering operational use, the Iron Dome battery was positioned in the greater Tel Aviv area.

According to a report on the Israel Defense website, the position of the battery is for training purposes, to familiarize IDF soldiers stationed in the area with the system, and to adapt the system to the area’s requirements.

3. TAU Prof. Faces Backlash for Protesting in Favor of Terrorist
by Elad Benari TAU Prof. Protests in Favor of Terrorist

A professor at Tel Aviv University is facing backlash after allegedly having deceived university administration and holding a protest in favor of a Palestinian Authority Arab terrorist.

Dana Barnett of the Israel Academia Monitor organization, which monitors and exposes anti-Israel activities of Israeli academics, told Arutz Sheva on Tuesday that last week several people at Tel Aviv University requested permission to hold a demonstration outside the university against the massacre in Syria. However, said Barnett, the demonstration was in fact a protest in favor of terrorist Hana Shalbi.

Shalbi is an Islamic Jihad terrorist from the village of Burkin near Jenin. She was arrested recently based on “completely certain” intelligence that she had assisted in planning a terrorist attack that was to involve kidnapping an IDF soldier. She had been released in the Shalit deal just months earlier.

Shalbi is one of several PA terrorists in Israeli prisons who are hunger striking in an attempt to force the Prison Service to release them. Several self-described human rights organizations have called on Israel to consider releasing these terrorists.

Barnett told Arutz Sheva that behind the pro-Shalbi demonstration was Tel Aviv University professor Dr. Anat Matar, who has been identified as being one of many leftist intellectuals in Israeli universities who demonize Israel.

According to Barnett, “The protesters said they will demonstrate outside the university about a different issue and in reality they entered the university campus. Among them was Dr. Anat Matar who was holding a huge picture of Shalbi. To date, hundreds of signatures of students calling to fire Matar have been collected. Rather than focusing on her area of expertise, philosophy, she is busy with political activity against Israel.”

The Tel Aviv University said in response that it will investigate the matter, including Dr. Matar’s conduct.

According to the university, “The demonstration was illegal. The organizers of the demonstration did not request permission for a demonstration inside the university. When it was discovered that the demonstration had entered the campus the protesters were asked to leave. The matter is under review.”

4. Official Anti-Israel Events at Columbia University Law School
by Rachel Hirshfeld Hate at Columbia University Law School

There are a number of e-mail notifications being circulated at Columbia University Law School, as well as various departments and clinics within the school, announcing official upcoming anti-Israel events, according to IsraelMatzav.

American-Israeli “human rights” lawyer Emily Schaeffer and member of the Yesh Din NGO spoke at the prestigious law school on March 27, claiming that Israeli “human rights violations” include cases of “torture, targeted killings, [and] the use of white phosphorus.” Yesh Din is funded almost entirely by foreign donations, and provided testimony against the Israel Defense Forces in the Goldstone Report. The organization says its mission is “to oppose the continuing violation of Palestinian human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory… documenting and disseminating accurate and up-to-date information about the systematic violation of human rights in the OPT, by raising public awareness of such violations, and by applying public and legal pressures on government agencies to end them.”

In addition, an event titled, “Disruption of Normal Life in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” which is expected to accuse Israel of “home demolitions” and “illegal construction” is scheduled to take place March 29. The event’s flyer proclaims, “Palestinians maintain that the demolitions stem from a discriminatory planning and zoning regime that favors Israeli settlers.”

Furthermore, university students who submitted reports to the United Nations Special Procedures Committee regarding the “human rights situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem,” are to engage in a “lunchtime discussion in which they will share some of their research and experiences… They will discuss issues affecting everyday life for Palestinians including: housing and zoning schemes, forced evictions and displacement, and discriminatory land policy.”

Similarly, Professor Katherine Franke, who recently returned from a trip to the region, where she was helping ‘Palestinian’ women establish a Women's Committee within the Palestinian Bar Association, is scheduled to speak about the “pressing Gender Justice issues,” in the “West Bank” and what it means to be a feminist in the West Bank.”

“The Ethics of Pinkwashing: LGBT Rights in Israel/Palestine,” scheduled to take place on April 4th, is meanwhile expected to accuse Israel of “pinkwashing” and committing crimes of discrimination against the homosexual population in Israel.

Columbia University is widely known to be a hotspot for anti-Israel programming and activities, and has sponsored numerous events aimed at de-legitimizing the Jewish State. It facilitates academic, economic and cultural boycotts against the State of Israel. The university’s Edward Said was photographed throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers guarding the border with Lebanon.  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was invited to speak at the university in 2007.

5. Jordan to Allow Global March to Jerusalem
by Elad Benari Jordan to Allow Global March to Jerusalem

Jordanian authorities confirmed on Tuesday that they will permit a planned Global March to Jerusalem in the Jordan Valley on Friday.

The Iranian news agency Fars quoted the Jordanian Public Security Department (PSD) as having confirmed authorities will allow Islamist activists to lead a march as part of global demonstrations “in support of Jerusalem.”

PSD Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammed Khatib told Fars a “heavy” security presence will be deployed to maintain order during Friday's march.

The Global March is being staged in Lebanon and Jordan as another ploy to drum up international supports for the Palestinian Authority (PA) demand for unilateral recognition of PA territorial and political demands following the demise of the Oslo Accords and of the ensuing diplomatic process towards negotiations with Israel for the establishment of the PA as an independent entity.

Previous “million-man” marches have fizzled with few participants, but the Jordanian and Lebanese governments have offered more support this time around. Israel has warned them not to try cross the international borders.

According to the report in Fars, the Islamist movement stressed that the march will be “peaceful and well organized,” dismissing fears of participants attempting to storm the border as “baseless.”

Kathem Ayesh, a Muslim Brotherhood member and march organizer, was quoted as having said that participants will not stray from the designated rally site, pointing out that Islamists held a similar rally in the Jordan Valley last November without incident.

“This will be a peaceful rally in support of Jerusalem, not a call to storm Jerusalem,” Ayesh was quoted in the report as having told The Jordan Times.

The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) has presented information that the Iranian regime is behind the initiative and openly supports it. The march has also been endorsed by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who was U.S. President Barack Obama's pastor for 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

6. Hitler Shampoo Commercial Pulled Following Jewish Protests
by Rachel Hirshfeld Hitler Shampoo Commercial Pulled from Air

A Turkish commercial for men’s shampoo featuring Adolf Hitler has been pulled following widespread protests from the Jewish community.

In the commercial, Hitler announces, “If you’re not wearing women’s clothes, then you shouldn’t be wearing women’s shampoo.”

The advertisers said on Tuesday that the commercial would no longer be aired.

“Decisive action by the leaders of the Turkish Jewish community mobilized national and international public opinion against the shockingly offensive use of Hitler imagery for commercial purposes,” said David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee. “And in short order, the company responsible for this outrage reversed course.”

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) applauded leading Turkish newspapers, including Milliyet and Hurriyet, for rallying public criticism of the commercial and expressed gratitude to the international Jewish community for their support.

On Monday, the office of the Chief Rabbi in Istanbul demanded a public apology from the company "to repair the damage this commercial has caused to society's conscience," with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) saying it was "repulsed," and calling the commercial "a disgusting and deplorable marketing ploy."

7. Jailed Terrorist Barghouti Calls for ‘Resistance’
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu Jailed Terrorist Barghouti Calls for ‘Resistance’

Palestinian Authority terrorist Marwan Barghouti, considered the most popular PA leader, has called from his jail cell for “resistance,” the Arab code word for violence.

In a statement released Monday and published on Arab websites, Barghouti said, "The launch of large-scale popular resistance at this stage serves the cause of our people.” He also called for "stopping all forms of security and economic coordination (with Israel) in all areas immediately."

He is serving five life sentences for planning and involvement in some of the worse terrorist attacks during the Intifadas and was convicted for responsibility in the murder of dozens of Jews. Several Israel governments have resisted attempts by Israeli political and academic leaders to free him.

“His leadership and charisma were seen as a driving force behind the last intifada, or uprising, against Israeli occupation launched in late 2000,” wrote the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

Barghouti is a leading figure in the Fatah movement, headed by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, and he occasionally has been mentioned as a candidate to replace Abbas.

"Stop marketing the illusion that there is a possibility of ending the occupation and achieving a state through negotiations after this vision has failed miserably," wrote Barghouti in a message that was to be read at a rally in Ramallah, the headquarters of the PA.

Barghouti previously has said he urged "civil disobedience” and not violence, but Palestinian Authority media incitement have left the “street” to understand “resistance” as meaning attacks on Jews in the name of a PA state.

Ma'an wrote, “The call to action comes at a combustible period in the West Bank, occupied by Israel since a war in 1967, as economic malaise, moribund diplomacy, and simmering popular discontent bode ill for any peaceful breakthroughs."

“Some fear that planned Palestinian commemorations of an annual protest against Israeli land confiscations on Friday, including marches to Jerusalem, could erupt in violence.

"A 40-day long hunger strike by female detainee Hana Shalabi and a similar campaign by dozens of other Palestinians in Israeli custody are also firing popular anger.”

8. Video: Holiday Bustle in Meah She'arim
by A7 Staff Video: Holiday Bustle in Meah She'arim

US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro and his wife Julie Fisher on Tuesday accepted an invitation from Hareidi "Consul",  Rabbi Mattisyahu Cheshin, to tour the picturesque hareidi Jerusalem neighborhood of  Meah She'arim.

During the tour, the Ambassador and his wife saw for themselves the hustle and bustle of pre-Passover preparations in the neighborhood.

The tour included a rooftop view from the great Synagogue of Breslov, a walking tour of the Batei Ungarim (Hungarian houses), and a visit to a Passover lesson at a local cheder (boys' elementary school).

Shapiro also had a chance to hand grind some of the meal for matzas and to witness the thin dough rushed in and out of the oven. Matzas must be made within 18 minutes to prevent leavening.

The tour then proceeded to the famous century-old challah bakery of Lendner, where the Ambassador and his wife plucked challah out of the oven to discover that they spelled out "U.S.A."

The tour concluded at the great synagogue of Belz, a centerpiece of the Belzer Hasidic sect, which can seat 6,000 in its main sanctuary.

"We're very excited about the Seder our family will have," Shapiro said, sending his well-wishes to every Jew in Israel. "And we wish everyone a very happy and kosher Pesach."
