Jailed Azeri Activist's Appeal Denied
A court in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, has rejected an appeal by a former opposition parliament candidate and social-media activist for early release from a prison sentence for evasion of military service. More Russia’s Investigative Committee has pledged to probe alleged incidents of police abuse of citizens that have occurred over the past two years in the central republic of Tatarstan. More Jailed Belarusian opposition activist Syarhey Kavalenka, whose health has significantly deteriorated during a lengthy hunger strike, has been transferred to a prison psychiatric clinic.
