Bulgaria's largest cigarette maker Bulgartabac plans to export a total of 15.5 billion cigarettes to the Middle Eastern market this year and achieve a further 7% export growth to the region in 2013.
The company has pointed out in a statement that it has achieved a double digit growth in its exports to the Middle East since 2008 – by 45% in 2008 and 2009, by 115% in 2010 and by a further 25% in 2011. read more

4 BULGARIAN POLICE OFFICERS ON 1-MONTH OPERATION IN BELGIUM
Four officials from the Bulgarian Interior Ministry have worked for a month with Belgian colleagues on the territory of Ghent, where they conducted joint operations and investigations, the department in Sofia said.
Among the officials dispatched on business trips to the city of Ghent were representatives of the Chief Directorate Combating Organized Crime, Chief Directorate Criminal Police, the District Police Directorates in the cities of Ruse and Gabrovo. read more

BULGARIA'S FEBRUARY UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG EU'S HIGHEST
Bulgaria was among the EU member states with the highest unemployment rate in February, according to data released by Eurostat.
A total of 12.4% of Bulgarians were unemployed in February, which is higher than both the seasonally adjusted average for the EU 27 (10.2%) and for the Eurozone (10.8%). read more

Maria Boyadzhiyska, Deputy Mayor of Bulgaria's capital Sofia, has declared that she is ready to resign over the city's unresolved stray dogs issue.
On Sunday, representatives of animal rights NGOs demanded Boyadzhiyska's resignation, stating that her efforts since stepped in office in 2009 have led to increasing rather than decreasing the population of stray dogs in the capital. read more

BULGARIAN PARTY WANTS TO LEGALIZE KILLING OF STRAY DOGS IN SELF-DEFENSE
The Bulgarian nationalist Ataka (Attack) party has proposed legal amendments that would allow citizens to attack and kill animals in self-defense.
The proposed amendments come after the latest horrific accident at the end of March in which renowned 88-year-old economist Boteo Tachkov was brutally assaulted and almost killed by an aggressive pack of stray dogs in Sofia's Malinova Dolina district. read more

SOFIA CITY HALL LAUNCHES SPRING CLEANING CAMPAIGN
The Sofia City Hall is launching Monday the traditional campaign for the spring cleaning of the Bulgarian capital.
The campaign is to conclude on April 27. The official start was given at 12 pm in the in city's central park "Borisova Gradina." There is a tent erected in the park, near the "Ariana" lake, where people wishing to join the campaign can receive free gloves and trash bags. read more

HALF OF BULGARIA CHOKING BY HARMFUL AIR DUST
A Bulgarian think-tank raised an alert on Monday over the high concentration of dust particles in the air, which they say affects half of the country's population.

ARCHEOLOGISTS FIND GOLD ORNAMENTS IN BULGARIA'S SOZOPOL
A massive gold ring and a gold leaf from a royal crown are the latest archeological discoveries in the Bulgarian Black Sea town of Sozopol, site of the ancient town of Apollonia.
The discoveries have been made by Bulgarian archeologists Dimitar Nedev and Tsonya Drajeva during excavations funded by the National History Museum. The precious finds were located in front of the ancient fortress gate of Sozopol. read more

The happy event took place on Sunday in Sofia. Sporting Lisbon's Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov is currently loaned out to Italian side Lecce and headed straight to Bulgaria upon hearing the news. read more
