Libya : Protecting freedom of expression and right to access information in new constitution

A 60-member "Constitutional Committee" will be established by the General National Congress to draft a new Constitution for Libya. In response to these efforts and to support the work of the future drafters, ARTICLE 19 has produced a comprehensive policy brief outlining how the new Constitution should protect the right to freedom of expression and freedom of information. Russia: Pussy Riot inspired blasphemy law threat to free expression 

ARTICLE 19 calls on President Putin to veto a bill prohibiting religious insult, which was adopted by the Federation Council (Russia’s Upper Chamber of Parliament) on 25 June 2013. The adoption of this law is widely believed to be a reaction to Pussy Riot’s punk-protest performance in one of Moscow’s main cathedrals in February 2012.  Read more >
