reviewed at the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic

Indonesia: Four years of falling short on human rights commitments
Indonesia’s human rights record will be reviewed for the second time on
Wednesday 23 May 2012 before the UN Human Rights Council. ARTICLE 19 has
called for the UN member states to raise concerns to Indonesia
regarding its State Intelligence Law, violations of the Ahmadiyah’s
right to freedom of religion, in addition to the violence and free
speech restrictions within West Papua.

Universal Periodic Review: Ecuador must end harsh treatment of journalists
Ecuador’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) by the Human Rights Council
will take place on 21 May 2012. ARTICLE 19 urges member states
delegations to use the opportunity of the UPR to raise concerns about
violations of the right to freedom of expression in the country and to
make recommendations to urgently address them. ARTICLE 19 has called on
the UN member states to urge Bahrain to commit to preventing harassment
of journalists and human rights defenders, stop controlling and

(WSIS) 2012 is going on in Geneva, Switzerland, under the auspices of
the United Nations Educational Scientific an Cultural Organisation (
UNESCO), the International Telecommunication Union (
ITU), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (
UNCTAD) and the United Nations Development Program (
UNDP),

Bahrain: One hundred organisations call to end assault on freedom of
speech, and to free all detained human rights defenders and netizens
The following is a letter calling on the Bahrain Royal Family to release
jailed human rights defenders and netizens, including the founder and
president of IFEX member Bahrain Centre for Human Rights. The signing
organisations further call on the UN Human Rights Council, the European
Parliament, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and all
concerned governments to exert their influence on the ruling family to
stop violating human rights in Bahrain.

Not a Niche Issue: Marriage Equality, Freedom of Expression, and Equality Everywhere
