As technology removes humans from the role of driver, cars won't take over just on city streets and highways. Engineers are already fine-tuning the smarts that will let cars drive themselves on racetracks. When the Roborace Formula E series—an all-robotic, all-electric variant of Formula One—begins early next year, there'll be no dashing, devil-may-care types to root for. What fans will witness instead are vehicles that are lighter, faster, more maneuverable, and capable of reacting more quickly than the blink of a human eye. |
