THE LIMITS OF MORALITY
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes It's Right to Cooperate with Dictators
The uprisings in the Arab world have prompted much hand-wringing among
Europeans, who worry that the West has been too lenient with the
region's autocrats. Sometimes, however, tolerating dictators is very
much in the West's best interest.

NEW BOOK FROM ASSANGE'S DEPUTY
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Difficult Partnership of WikiLeaks' Leadership Duo
The release of a new book by former WikiLeaks spokesman Daniel
Domscheit-Berg marks the end of a friendship with Julian Assange. But
the book lacks the kind of analysis of WikiLeaks' influence on politics
that one might have hoped for. It often feels more like the story of a
spurned lover than an important historical account.

Bangladesh's Tiger Widows Fight Exclusion
Tigers regularly attack and kill forestry workers in southwestern
Bangladesh. Their widows, seen as harbingers of bad luck, are cursed
and ostracized. Sick of this social exclusion, the women are now banding
together to help each other.

Germany Will 'Contribute to an Arms Race,' Charges Opposition
Selling fighter jets to India would violate weapons-export guidelines,
say members of the German opposition, who are criticizing a trip by
Defense Minister Guttenberg to India this week. New Delhi has dangled a
fat contract for a fleet of jets, but critics say Berlin should
not export weapons to a crisis zone.

Bundesbank President Weber's Decision 'a Disaster for Merkel'
German Bundesbank President Axel Weber is reportedly no longer
interested in taking over the European Central Bank presidency later
this year. By dropping out of the running, German commentators say, he
has harmed both Chancellor Angela Merkel and himself.

WINNENDEN RULING
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Father Convicted for Son's School Massacre in Germany
In the first case of its kind in Germany, a court in Stuttgart ruled
that the father of a boy who killed 15 people, most of them at a school
in Winnenden, is responsible for manslaughter and bodily injury because
he failed to observe a gun control law stipulating the secure storage of
firearms.

Deutsche Börse Eyes Takeover of New York Stock Exchange
Once again, plans are in the works for a mega-merger between the
Deutsche Börse stock market in Frankfurt and the New York Stock
Exchange. With the NYSE set to be swallowed up, many in the US are
skeptical. A growing wave of such mergers could result in fewer national
stock exchanges in the future.

TAKING AIM AT WILLIAM TELL
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Referendum Could Change Swiss Gun Culture
The Swiss vote in a referendum this Sunday on a measure to collect
military-issue weapons. The aim is to store guns in public arsenals,
rather than at home -- and cut down on domestic violence. But it could
end a tradition of gun ownership associated with Swiss independence and
the legend of William Tell.
