JFC Naples Mobile Training Team trains officers from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.*

Naples, Italy: The Allied Joint Force Command Naples Mobile Training Team (MTT), as part of the Military Partnership Branch (MPB), recently completed a training mission to Skopje in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia* from September 17-20, 2013.

The team of four instructors from different NATO countries facilitated a classroom based logistic training for 20 officers from various logistic headquarters and units of the Army of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*.

The training was conducted over four days; the first two days consisted of a series of 11 presentations, which led into a fictional scenario brief. The participants were then divided into 3 syndicates to conduct logistics operational planning in two phases; mission analysis followed by concept of operations (CONOPS) decision brief.

The presentations covered various logistics topics such as: Introduction to NATO Command structure/NATO deployable forces, multinational logistic solutions, Host Nation support, contracting, the role of Joint Logistic Support Group in operations, NATO Reaction Force log directive, and force generation.

The scenario required participants to conduct national planning to deploy one mechanized company plus size unit abroad.  Syndicates were tasked to provide the logistics, movement and transportation inputs to the mission analysis brief and present this to a notional logistics commander.  This was followed by course of action analysis and subsequent CONOPS decision brief.

Both the mission analysis brief and CONOPS stages of the course were conducted to a standard which fully satisfied the objectives of the MTT.

The MTT concluded with a course review, exchange of plaques and presentation of certificates to the participants.

They discussed progress in Montenegro’s reform agenda and the growing cooperation between NATO and Montenegro. The NATO Secretary General commended Montengro’s continued reform efforts on the way to Euro-Atlantic integration.

“It is important to maintain the momentum of reforms, even at a time of economic difficulties†, the Secretary General said. “So I encourage you to continue working on the challenges that we have identified together in the Membership Action Plan. Reinforcing the rule of law, fighting corruption and organised crime, finding the resources to modernise your armed forces, and explaining to your public the importance of Euro-Atlantic integration†.

During the meeting, the NATO Secretary General and President Vujanovic also discussed NATO’s security agenda and the Alliance’s mission in Afghanistan.

“We are grateful for Montenegro’s significant contribution, and for your pledge to help the Afghan security forces both financially and through the training mission that we are planning after 2014†, the Secretary General noted. And he added: “Montenegrin forces are offering force protection to our trainers in Mazar-e-Sharif. And together with other Adriatic nations, you successfully transitioned the programme of training for the Afghan Military Police in Kabul. You have worked closely with countries from your region to build stability in Afghanistan – and strengthen cooperation among yourselves.â€

The Secretary General also praised Montenegro’s active contribution to cooperation and security in the Western Balkans.

“NATO’s commitment to the region is strong†, he said. “We see your future in the Euro-Atlantic family and we are determined to help you along that path.â€
